Thundercats Revival

Generally speaking, this season started out strong before quickly devolving into meh territory. There was way too much filler for what could have been a much better plotted season, and there was a lot of idiotic actions by the characters. The love triangle was unnecessary to start with, but they could have handled it so much better it's not even funny.

Also, fuck the elephants. Useless wastes of flesh.

The worst part of this episode is that the loss of a man's arms, BOTH of them, was treated as nothing, literally laughed at and promptly forgotten to give way for tween lurb triangle drama. I find how they treated the subject disturbing, creepy, horrible, mean spirited and incredibly insensitive

True, that was incredibly distasteful of them. ^_^

No, our heroes were the broadly drawn characters of the original series where good always triumphed, Lion-O would give even the likes of Mumm-Ra a chance if the situation called for it, and you didn't need to force adolescent Twilight-demographic targeted "romance" on us instead of advancing the plot.

Doing a reboot like this to make things "edgier" rankles because we remember what the characters were like. Sure, there were kind of hokey and preached good versus evil a little too much, but who says that's a bad idea where kids are concerned? It wasn't the maiming of heroes, using land mines, etc. we saw in the last episode. It was innocent fun that didn't try to take itself too seriously and we LIKED that.

If Panthro had lost even ONE arm in the old version everyone would have been horrified and we would have seen like a three episode arc where he gets a replacement or something happens to restore him because it would be such a far divergence from the tone of the rest of the series. They certainly wouldn't have made jokes about it and had a party right after it happened.

I mean, let's face it, this Tygra seems like twice as much of an ass because we remember the old Tygra being an honest good guy. And it really stands out because he's a much greater divergence than most of the others. Old School Lion-O would screw up just like the modern one does, he'd just learn his lesson quicker, beat the villain, and move on where the new one seems greener than the original.

Really the ones that show improvement from the originals are the Thunderkittens. They at least have a reason to act the way they do being orphaned street kids. Remember that the originals were all the royal court and nobles. That made the pranking and mischief the original Wilykit and Wilykat got into harder to accept because they SHOULD have been raised to know better. The new kittens act better without that supposed supervision.

I actually don't remember. It started in what, 85? I was like three. Even though I'm sure I watched reruns (I certainly wouldn't remember anything from three, I do recall a little of the show though), it's been a damn long time.

This. I also enjoy that the finale reinforces the 'Tygra is so much cooler than Lion-O' thing. It did start off well where they are both trying to get out from each other's shadow. Tygra is 'better' presumably, older, smarter, what have you. Lion-O on the other hand has the heredity going for him. Then, yeah, it devolves into this mess, which really felt as if it was there for shock factor.

As much as I am not a huge fan of TTGL, I get that the whole sequence prior to Kamina's death was all played out that way for a reason. Simon's anguish over losing Yoko (in a sense, not that he really had the chance, so to speak) leads to Kamina dying, so there's the major self-loating aspect to balance out the whole 'lost the girl' aspect. Further, Simon gets to try to come into his own since Kamina isn't in the picture, where he might have done so even if Kamina were still around, but it would likely have taken longer.

This, this is the whole 'let's give them a bang' and since they couldn't have Tygra go straight evil (which would have been interesting, as you said, as a proto-Grune so to speak) they kinda-sorta make up after the Astral Plane which does show us that, yes, Tygra has issues, and then, bang, end with flash but no substance. Wheee. I doubt I'll continue watching this. Unless they get the Silverhawks in there at some point. That would bring me back.

One of the things that bugged me is how easily the gem was located. Especially since Mumm-ra had been there before, knew how to manipulate the Astral Plane to his advantage, and was the prior owner of the gem, so would presumably be able to wield it. Actually, since the gem appears to be the keystone for the Astral Plane, how does Mumm-ra know about it? He was sealed right after he lost the gems, and was only released recently by Grune. Maybe he was able to send his mind to the Astral Plane while he was sealed, and that is the medium he used to contact Grune?

Ughhh this is getting bad. The whole relationship angle was very badly done not to mention a complete distraction to the plot. They have really screwed up this series.

Speak English. Or at least gut the guy's name right.
what is the proper way gut a name?
I've found a good hunting knife works wonders, personally.

And the proper way to spell it (at least as far as I've seen) is 'Pumyra'.

I gotta admit, I thought she came on a little strong, and expected her to betray the group at some point, but I did not expect it the way it happened.

Wait a second....Mumm-ra destroyed an entire star system to creat the ore use in the Sword of Plun-Darr......and the same ore was used in the Sword of Omens....

That's actually kind of badass....
