Thundercats Revival

Did anyone else get the feeling that Mum-Ra's pyramid is a spaceship from that episode or is it just me?

No, I got that feeling too. I was almost expecting Apocalypse, the X-Men villain, to be in that high-tech coffin instead of Mumm-Ra.

In the original series the Thundercats were aliens who crashed to another planet in their spaceship. In this new version, it's like it's Mumm-Ra who's the alien on another planet in his pyramid/spaceship.

Or maybe Mum-ra's pyramid is a prison the cats put him in to lock him away...
Certainly seemed to me that he needed someone else to release him from the prison

If one cares to notice... Mummra seems to have all the features of the Thundarian race... just decrepit and decayed.

Also... Thundercats Bloopers. Look them up on Youtube if you don't know about them... heh.

"What's a Samophlange?"

Mad homages made.

fox, all versions of Panthro were bald.
I meant COMPLETELY bald, not the whole Samurai topknot thing he's got going on now.

By the way...

Did anyone notice that Panthro had a tail in the flashbacks but he doesn't have one now?
I actually didn't see that; it does raise some interesting questions tho'. Do all 'Cats have tails for a set period, or just some of them? So far, the only ones who've had them are the Kittens and YoungGrunt!Panthro.

Also: According to Wikipedia, the first DVD set of the season hits shelfs Oct 18. Season One, Book One.

those with tails are considered second class citizens.

As we wanted to diversify the cat races (and other animals species). My
approach was to give some tails and also make the ears different. For
WilyKit and Kat, the points of their hair is actually the tips of their
ears. ThatÆs right, the whole part of their head is their ear.

The fur along the side of their head is, well, ear hair. So when you see Kit tie up her ponytail itÆs actually pinning her ears back. My hope was that we could use the animal characteristics of putting the ears back when scared or threatened or perking one up when trying to listen would be interesting for a more dynamic character trait. Especially for comedy.

While weÆre here let me explain the tails a bit. Again, I thought it would be cool to introduce social class stigmas amonst the thunderan people. Having been born with a tail in some opinion would be considered less evolved. A birth defect if you will. But as a design element, like a cape, the tail can give a sense of direction on a stagnant pose or give a sense of direction or movement to the arc line of the pose. In real life, cats tails can tell us more about the emotion of the animal. For example if itÆs sitting still the tail may be swatting with a thump (which from watching my cat) meaning itÆs going to pounce in a moment. Or when it slumps shows the cat is relaxed.

There is also the play that the tail helps with the balance of the cat, since the kids are like the acrobats of the group, I wanted to keep that aspect. Hope this give some insightà

panthro probably lost his in battle.

There's a difference between what was written and second class citizens.

Thought this was a pretty good episode. Get to see Mum-Ra in his big form. They are really pushing the Cheetara and Lion-o relationship in this one. Its been awhile since seeing the original but I didn't think it was pushed as hard in that one.

I was thrown off by the fact neither Mumm-Ra's transformation nor the Sword of Omens used stock footage. I'm not used to this stuff being done casually!

Also, freaked out because I just found out Lion-O is Will Friedle, whom I didn't recognize from either Batman Beyond or Boy Meets World. Huh.

Will Friedle, really? Huh. Didn't recognize him 'til you mentioned it. Thought Lion-O sounded familiar...

Still: Cat's Lair! Awesome! And just what you'd expect from a mediveal-type world... except the first few minutes, with the flashback and all, showed that the 'Cats and Mumm-ra were allies, or at least ol' Mumms was allied with one faction of the 'Cats.

I gotta say, Mumm-Ra looks even more badass in this incarnation then in any other.

This is an important episode, and it really gets my juices flowing... I want to know more about the history of the 'Cats NOW, dammit!

It's starting to look more and more likely that this is set in the distant future/future AU of the original series. Or reincarnation.

Also: The MUMM-TANK. *giggle* Where was this thing when I was a kid?! Loving this series more and more...

Anyone got links to the episodes? I haven't seen the episodes since the third one

So, watching the newest episode...

I KNEW that it would be too quick for that place snarf found to be the Tower of Omens

That being said, I didn't think they'd actually show it in this episode.

When did Tigra get his whip back?

Mumm-Ra Tank. Awesome. I thought we'd see the Ancient Spirits of Evil again.

Jahga gets a Dying Moment of Awesome here!

I did NOT see that twist coming, that's for sure.

And, of course, Panthro has the best line in the episode again.

"Close your mouth, you're drooling."

Also LOVE the call-back to the original series with Cheetara getting super powered after Lion-O going "Thundercats HO!"

Thanks.

This is really starting to look like a distant future version rather than a reboot. Who wants to bet that the planet the "war stone" was stolen from was the original Thundera?

Also, you have to like WilyKat. "Why look for a key when you can just pick the lock?"

And did anyone else notice that every trap in the Tower of Omens was designed to be beaten by either the weapon or skills of one of the original Thundercats? The reincarnation angle is looking more and more plausible.

Still waiting for Snarf to talk, though, snarf snarf.

They REALLY are pushing the shipping, huh?

Honestly, I'm wondering if Cheetara's faith in Lion-O isn't because she's infatuated with him or something.

Actually, I'm getting the reverse vibe.

I think that Lion-O will think the Cheetara likes him, but will be disappointed when he learns that she was just trying to constantly encourage him because she believes he'll make a good king and because everyone else around him seems to keep doubting him, not out of any romantic feelings of her own.

It's early enough in the series that it could go in several directions, or even no direction at all, but that's the vibe I'm currently getting.

New episode was pretty good. I liked the back story and the way it was done. Get a future peak at epic armor maybe? :D

Ha, called the spaceship thing!
Edit: And after finishing the whole episode, i'd agree that it's good. Also i'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Monstarr's face appearing on one of the screens.

The thing with the armor reminded me of the end of the S-cry-ed anime. Cool designs though.

Great episode. Interesting look at the way the 'Cats and other animal-peoples ended up on Third Earth.

Gotta wonder: Is Mumm-Ra still in the Diamond!Ship, and it's buried in the earth with the Black Pyramid the only part still visiable, or what?

Still so wanting to know more... hurry up, dammit!!!

Nice little gag for the older fans.

The nod to the Siverhawks was nice. Anyone else feel like this would have made a good first episode in its own right?
