Captain America is "killed" in a sniper attack in issue 25, while he is leaving the courthouse.

Kinda makes you wonder how the marvel universe is gonna act if he really does die from this.

Death is the comic equivalent of vacation. If he stays dead, I'll eat a hat.

Just for the name alone, "Captain America" they might attempt to replace him with the next generation, "Major Freedom"? >;p

Wasn't he not the first anyway? Making another shouldn't be that difficult.

Actually, Steve Rogers was the second person that was injected with the Super-Soldier serum. The first subject, if I remember right, was a black man named Erskine.

Meh, i lost hope with "good' deaths in the comic world after Superman/Doomsday.
that was the perfect time to retire him IMO.

I lost hope after they brought back Jean Grey. With the whole Madeline Prior mess with that as well, it just killed one of the more meaningful deaths in comic history.

Don't tell me... i was rooting for the other side:

*Stay dead, stay dead!*

I think you can count on one hand the superheroes that die and actually stay dead. -_-

And Captain America won't be one of them. They already did a whole Captain America is dying bit before. He lived, because he's in the Big Leagues. He will probably be saved by some miraculous new procedure that was just invented that will amplify his pathetic level of power. Like they did with Spidey a while back.

I think the original thunderbird stayed dead. But don't remember if anyone else stayed dead.

Course I think a couple other people took up the mantle, but that's it. Course Super Villains have the same problem.

Actually the only hero to stay dead was Captain Mar-Vel and I saw was only because Thanos brought his ass back to life in Cosmic Powers Unlimited(I think, gotta look through my comics with Thanos to be sure) for like 4-6 pages and then used the Reality Gem to cause Mar-Vel to be dead again.

This reminds of the Fantastic 4 and the mess they did with Heaven.

Why can't they leave 'em dead? It's a bad example for kids everywhere! I'll do that and then i'll get revived just like *insert name*.

Reminds me of that Spiderman plot some time back when Mary Jane supposedly perished in an airplane-crash, but after a whole load of angst, turned out to have been alive the whole time, and had merely been kidnapped by some sociopath who wanted to live Spiderman's life as his own. <_<

Doesn't death serve a purpose anymore?

Do you really want an answer for this question?

Makes you wonder if the Marvel characters aren't a bit touched by the immortal syndrome.

Only if you are a minor character. If you are a big gun, the chances of you staying dead are basically zero. The only relatively big name I can think of who stayed dead so far is Moira McTaggart (the version seen in Exiles was created by the House of M reality warp, and died as well, so she no longer counts).

Oh, and a few major villains like Proteus (whose Exiles version, again, was a House of M creation).

Since some people are mentioning loss of faith in comic book deaths, I shall mention the two that made me lose my faith by returning to their main universe.

1. Jason Todd. Superboy punched reality and brought him back to life. Spent some time harrassing Batman before deciding to harrass Nightwing instead.

2. Bucky. Survived his death and was brainwashed into assassin. Captain America broke his brainwashing and made him run away and cry.

The two were part of, as some call it, a trinity of characters that just -won't- get revived, particularly because even though they're significant deaths, they weren't significant characters. Except two of them have been. Eeesh.

On an aside, the third character was Uncle Ben. Benjamin Parker has however been -sort- of brought back.

An alternate dimension version of him where the burglar killed his wife instead of him was brought to Earth-616 after finding disappointment with how Peter was using his spider powers. Currently seems to have been driven insane and is armed and dangerous, loose in the streets of Manhattan.

So yeah. You don't have to be a big name to be brought back.

He wasn't really brought back, since that one never died. He was a very important character though. He was the person that defined spider-man.

Hal Jordan died, and stayed that way for a while. I think he came back, but it was a long time later and as something else. He's also DC though, like Jason Todd is. Having someone stay dead for over a decade has to be worth something though.

The ressurection of Bucky Barnes was almost as bad as bringing back Jason Todd. Jason Todd's death was the second most defining moment in Batman's life. But when they brought back Bucky, who they said never died, contradicting Captain America's own memeory of the event, the changed Bucky's past. They said Bucky wan't a fumbling side kick, but a secret agent.

I think Captain Mar-vel came back recently in something called Return. Supposedly due to time travel. One can wonder if anyone will bother to inject him with a cure for his possible future cancer or if he will just hang out in the present.

Hal Jordan came back to life all the way maybe a year or so back. The one who held the Green Lantern title then became Ion, a sort of energy god, while Hal got his title back.

What was the power up? I don't really see what they could change about him besides giving him the ability to turn into a spider or something.

They gave him poison stingers, and I think six retractable spider legs that come out from his back, and a new Iron Man made suit.

Wasn't that what an alternate spidey had in one of the cartoon episodes? I think the one that had everything go right for him.
