Akamatsuverse What's with all the Naru hate?

#51
I've just had a sudden thought about Naru, which might explain, but not excuse, her violent reaction to Keitaro. This is mostly stream of concious writing, be aware.

We all know that Naru idolised Seta when he was her tutor, and that his leaving, without so much as a note, hurt her.

But what if, his leaving damaged her at a deeper level? Maybe she began to think she didn't deserve anyone, didn't deserve to be happy? Maybe her violent outbursts were actually a defence mechanism, designed to make sure no one could get into her heart and then break it again? It worked for quite a while, I would hazard, and that would explain her presence at the Hinata; not only to study, but to keep away from the risk of any guy breaking her heart again.

And then Keitaro Urashima arrives to take over the apartments from Granny.

We all know what happens in the first few days, about how the charge is led to get him out of the place. But Keitaro soon fits in like a glove, and falls for Naru.

We all know that Keitaro, aside from being comically indestructable, also has a heart as big as a mountain, and almost never takes anything the girls say to heart. No matter what anyone does, Keitaro just plugs on.

Naru panics. She understands, at some unconcious level, that Keitaro is different to Seta, and all those other perverted jerks who've tried to go out with her; his innocent feelings of love for her are true, and it scares her badly. So, she rachets up the violence to try and push Keitaro away, subconciously trying to give Keitaro the message that he could do better than her. But Keitaro stubbornly refuses to stop loving her.

The rest, as they say, is history.

That is a perfect example of what a Tsundere is: A sweet girl trying to protect herself with a rough demeanor.

Which is why i don't get why people hate Naru. The archetype of the Tsundere has the girls turn very sweet to the guy after they manage to break through the cold exterior, which is what Keitaro has done. She'll never beat on Keitaro that badly ever again, if she follows the archetype (Unless she's some Tsundere/Yandere hybrid).

I blame the Anime OVA's. Those totally show Naru going against the Tsundere archetype and re-constructing her protective shell.

I do not hate her, I generally dislike the idea of a lasting relationship between the two of them (Keitaro/Naru).

I would not blame the anime OAV's... She is nearly as bad in manga as anime.

In any case, at wedding chasing after him with hand raised, and next scene having his disembodied voice implying she hit him or sent him flying... does not indicate to me a changed behavior in canon.

That's what I meant regarding the OAV's. if Naru followed the traditional archetype, the wedding scene would not imply that. Instead they muck it up since Naru apparently likes to go all "Naru Punch!" in the anime. I hear she's a bit more mellow in the manga.

Anyway, that's my big problem with Naru in the anime, but generally I like to think that she'll cool down some since she finally hooks up with Kei-kun. Then again that's not canon, is it?

Huh...

I'm talking about the manga ending, not the OAV's...

Yeah PC is right on the money. The ending of the manga is not much better then the anime adaptation. At least in relation to naru's violence...
