Who are the biggest jobbers in anime?

Basically, this is a compilation of the biggest losers you can think of - people who lose so much, you'd think they exist only to make others look good.

I'll start by nominating two people.

-Renji Abarai (Bleach)

I find it amusing that Renji is so full of himself, yet he usually loses if Byakuya isn't there to save his ass. He's developed a reputation as a huge jobber on GameFAQs. And I'd say it's deserved.

-Tuxedo Kamen (Sailor Moon)

As Dhampyr mentioned, few people are bigger jobbers than Tuxy. Even in the manga, where he's more competent, he's basically there to make the Senshi look badass. Pity you can't take them seriously anyway.

Go on, nominate...

Team rocket from the pokemon series? :ph43r: Especially that cat of theirs - I think it has the lowest number of wins in combat ever....

You forget, there is a bigger jobber
- Ryoga (Ranma 1/2)
totally jobs for Ranma... even the few times he wins he's just doing his job

Don't forget Ranma when he's looking for a cure....

Or when Akane is involved. He can fight way smarter than he did in the entire Battle Doogi storyline, and I'm virtually certain he can move a hell of a lot quicker than he demonstrated in same.

There are other instances of that too.

That could just be crappy writing.
Not that I'm one to talk....

But what about Ben Dixon from Robotech?

I think he's got the same in Macross, I can't remember.

Shinji Ikari from Eva. I like the character (in his less whiney moments) But seriously, his whole life is just one downwards slope.

Ben Dixen was hardly even a minor character. In chapter he's introduced. In the next he's eating lunch. In the third chapter he's dead.

Yeah... I can see why many have that view, but remember, his life was practically made to be that way.

The 1st incarnation. Or maybe its because of the stupid dub, which made them speak in ridiculous sounding rhymes.
Crossdressing James looked darn creepy as well, when you consider how real those boobs look...

You say it's crappy writing, I say it's Ranma not wanting to utterly crush Akane's pathetically undeserved ego and Takahashi pandering to her Mary Sue self-insert.

The problem with Akane is that she is a big fish in a small pond.

The pond being Furinkan and the other sizable fish is Kuno.

But this thread is not about Akane Tendo's ego and its origins.

Back on topic, how's this for a suggestion: Hanagata from Saber Marionette J

Haven't watched that in ages, completely forgot about Hanagata. Good call on that one.

Trying to think of another name to add to the Hall of Shame, but I'm coming up blank  I seriously need some replacement memory

Kyouichi Saionji - Revolutionary Girl Utena

B-Ko - Project A-Ko

Mosh, the problem with Matou Shinji is that he still plays an important role. In the show, Rider is kicking ass until Saber beats her down with Excalibur.
Besides, he was never the real Master of Rider anyway.

The thing is, "jobbing" isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it doesn't necessarily lower your position. It does mean that you're never playing the leading role, and if it comes down to a fight between you and the guy who's supposed to win (usually the series protagonist or villain), you lose.
A jobber is a character who loses because he's supposed to, not necessarily because the other guy is better.

In F/SN, Archer is more of a jobber than anyone else I can think of.

In (ugh) Dragonball Z, Vegeta is the essential jobber, seconded by Kuririn and Piccolo. Of those, however, I would argue that Piccolo is the best jobber, and Kuririn is the most experienced (he's been doing it since he and Goku were kids).

In Slayers, Martina, Zangulus, and Vrumugun are the major jobbers.

I wouldn't put Archer as the jobber in FSN....

He shined in Unlimited Blade Works. If I had to say anyone I would have to say Berserker. Even his noble phantasm failed because of a plot device :p

Good point, ttestagr. Though, in the anime, he did us all a favor and offed Shinji.

Actually, I'd argue Jinnai wasn't a jobber at all. He did pretty much become Emperor of the Bugrom, after all, and his plans were usually foiled by his big soldiers' incompetence or by Diva messing up, not by his opponents.

He's the classic competent villain whose followers suck. And every time he and Makoto had a somewhat direct confrontation not involving Ifurita, he gained the upper hand.

If anyone is a jobber in El-Hazard, it's Diva.
