Good luck with the repairs, PC. I used to live in a house with a basement, and it flooded every damn year it rained. Lost a lot of family mementos that way.

Hope you can get someone in to take care of sooner rather than later.

Pretty certain it is the sump pump that is the cause of my issues... I've checked the outlet it is plugged into, and it is ok, and tried plugging it into another outlet and nothing...

I'll be calling in the morning the guys that installed it.
Our sump pump is quite literally one of the most critical pieces of equipment in our house, being that the neighborhood was apparently a swamp 100 years ago. It's one of the things that you can't tell when you buy a house due to land modification, especially since it was a dry summer and wasn't running. In the spring you can literally hear the water pour into the sump tub.

We've even gone so far as to buy a battery backup for ours. Why am I telling you all this? Simple: it was the audible alarm on the backup pump when activated that saved us from burning out the main pump when the hose outside froze in the cold weather. Our city forbids running the sump pump into the city sewer, so we HAVE to run a hose outside. I have to change from the outside hose to a sloped rigid pvc pipe in the fall or it WILL freeze, and generally at -10F in the middle of the night, as we found out the first year we lived here. I forgot this year and the hose froze solid at 20f. At least it wasn't midnight or -10f.

So, if your sump pump burnt out, check the outlet pipe/hose too.

Hope your repairs go okay.

I agree with Threadweaver... Sump pumps are critical for most houses with basements that are in either areas prone to wet weather, or not high above waterline for area.

When one goes bad... you cannot let it go or hold off... thus why I jumped on it... I would have called yesterday, rather than wait a day, but with it being Christmas there was no point.

I remember him mentioning is own pump issues the other year... my own current area is not as bad... but we can get good rain and snowfall...

Pump already replaced, guy came in, looked, and immediately agreed the pump toasted itself and all the water was due to it not being able to be pumped out, not due to any leaks or seepage...

They had three models to offer... I debated getting a battery backup as I was going to tell them to install that, but instead went one better. I got what they class as a Ion pump, something fairly new. The sump pump looks normal, but there are two motors in it that alternate and monitor each other for breakdowns or longer than normal running. And while I'm nor currently set up to take advantage of it, there is an option to connect it to the internet and have it send status reports.

In any case, I have a few extra carpet squares, and likely will be using those to replace the ones in the one damp spot (one of the reasons I got industrial carpet squares in my basement in the first place was ease of maintenance and replacement)... other than that, a couple cardboard boxes got damp (most of my stuff was in plastic boxes, so was fine)... no other real damages occurred.

Depends... liquid can be so pressurized it acts as a solid. In which case it can in fact be tight.

Oh DAMN!!! T_T

That's ... painful. Batoto was and mostly IS the only manga scantilation site that I use. To hear that they are going down ... Well, can't blame the admin. He did a remarkable job keeping the place running.

But, what now? Where do I go now? ... T_T I'm going to miss Batoto.

Regarding sump pumps-

I always held by the backup rule. That is, you have one sump pump that works, and another sitting in it's box right there ready to be replaced.

Because every *every* single time your sump pump fails... you're not going to be in a situation where you can A: wait or B: got to lowes and pick one up.

Funny as hell, but you do realize that just about anyone born after 1990 will probably not even recognize M*A*S*H? They seldom syndicate it anymore because they can't cut any more of the episodes apart to make room for commercials without compromising the story. Episodes when MASH started were 26 minutes long, these days they're about 21 minutes.
