Shinji raised by an incredibly dysfunctional family with a veritable army of brothers, all of whom are some variety of misfit, genius, or combination of the two.

I'm talking about Shinji being raised by This Family.

Prepare for a Shinji that is one part little Professor and one part Bart Simpson. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

Shinji raised by Tony Stark, movie version.

Why? Because <a href='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tg8l_MvMH8Q' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>this</a>, that's why.
Better him than the real Gendo. Although the idea of a world where movie-verse Stark somehow replaces Gendo does appeal.

Shinji raised by Unit 01. She can't move much, without a pilot, but she can talk to him anywhere in NERV, or anywhere he's got his cell-phone. The physical parts of raising him are delegated by Gendo to various babysitters, including teenage Misato and Ritsuko.

Shinji raised alongside Ed and her dad form Cowboy Bebop fame.
Would be awesome, especially if he learned to fight like Ed's dad, who kicked Spike's ass without really trying.

Also...

Shinji raised by the dimension traveling swordsman, <a href='http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Gilgamesh' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Gilgamesh!</a>

Cue unit one pulling out a scale size Zantetsuken, cutting any angel in two.

That doesn't quite work for me in that format, however, that might have just triggered something terrible.

Rather than Unit-01 raising Shinji, it's the MAGI/NERV computer network is keeping tabs on him.

The MAGI is supposed to run most of Japan's, or at least Tokyo-3's infrastructure, so it influences certain things in his life. It selects him for certain classes and tutors to prepare him for his tasks.

You could tie in the Evangelions into this network to help shape the other pilots.

Huh. Interesting concept, that. I wonder how different the kids would be.

This deserves more consideration.

All Right so we have a 'Helios' (Deus Ex) situation. The Magi want to protect humanit from the Angels and their own excess but they realize that they lack an understanding of human nature. So they talk to the souls inside the Eva's, using them to help guide the Magi's actions. Not only do they select Shinji for certain classes and tutors, but they also sign him up for after school programs. Things like Big Brother/Big Sister, Sports Clubs, the band, and even therapy sessions.

They do have direct interaction with Shinji but it is in the form of being his Pen Pal, and they take the name 'Maggie'. In this form they befriend the boy and even lead him to write letters to Asuka. Asuka is getting the same treatment on her end. She's convinced to write back to the Shinji by the MAGI by being told a little secret, that the boy whose writing to her is another Eva Pilot in training (Certain Point of View), and they hope her wisdom and insight will help him to become a better pilot. So Now Asuka views Sinji's future success as extensions of her own skills as a teacher...

Asuka: "Yes....that's MY Student out there kicking angel ass!"

The Magi might even be able to arrange for the two to meet in person (Asuka sent on mandatory vacation, while Shinji takes a Class trip), and use that event to increase future 'Unit Cohesion'.

Thoughts?

'Digital Love' by gunman

I wish it had been continued.

I cannot recall if I've asked this, but what of Shinji being found and raised by Layla Yuki from 'Legend of Black Heaven or Kachou Ouji?

I think I'd like to read that, if it gets written.

I just had a horrifying, amazing thought.

One night, little Shin-chan wanders out into the misty woods. He isn't seen for months afterwards. When he finally turns up, he is changed, unhinged. He seems to have an imaginary friend. Nobody believes him until the pictures start showing up. They show an impossibly tall, incredibly thin man with what appears to be a completely blank face in the background of nearly every photo of Shinji. Some people call him The Operator. Most just call him The Slender Man. Shinji calls him "Daddy."

I think you meant <a href='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWu2C9jIJK4&feature=related' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>The Silence</a>.

which would make sense due to the sci-fi setting of evangelion.

One day, when Shinji was much younger, he wandered away from his caretakers house. He wandered away until he found an old, broken-down shrine. Shinji walked up the short steps to enter the shrine, but when he crossed the top of the steps, he felt this weird sensation passing over his skin.

When Shinji saw the shrine again, it was brand new! There was even a group of people standing in the courtyard.

One of them was a young girl in a fairly standard priestess outfit. The three other people really stood out.

The tallest one was a really pretty blonde lady in a pink and purple dress, with a funny looking hat.

The next tallest was another pretty blonde lady wearing a white and blue dress with what looked like a lot of tails sticking out the back, and an even funnier hat than the first lady, with two little poof-balls on it.

The last one was a little shorter the the priestess, had a green hat, a red dress with white sleeves, and there were to cat tails coming out from under her dress!

Yes, I have gone there: Shinji raised in Gensokyo, by Ran Yakumo.

As far as sounds go, complete silence is pretty far from the creepiest.

No, when there is complete silence you can be pretty confident that either there is nothing out there, or that if there is the sense of hearing would prove no help.

The sounds of crickets falling silence, a breadth in your ear when you are completely alone, a faint rustle in the background noise you are so familiar with you know the slightly different harmonics means something is wrong.

The slamming of a door when you are home alone, the screech of something living.

A car wheels skidding on pavement, a plane engine stopping, the brakes on a train.

The sound of loved one's screams. Your child's crying fading into the distance.

No, complete silence should be a comforting sound. A signal that all in hearing distance should be right in the world, if even for a moment.

Shinji knew this well, being from the village Hidden in Sound.

Lord Raa will know who I am talking about but what if Shinji was raised by Simon Templar a.k.a. The Saint?

Indeed. If people want to know more about Simon Templar, <a href='http://www.mediafire.com/?ygs8ybexxets8' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>here are three radio dramas</a> to help explain the man.

Or something. Not that anyone pays any attention to me or the things I share.

I know who The Saint is. Read a few of his comics that my grandfather kept back when I was little.

How about the gang from Leverage? Shinji could get lessons in fighting from Eliot and learn how to hack computers & phones from Hardinson.
