...you know, he's got a point about Obi-Wan leaving Anakin alive......thinking back on it, this must've been Yoda's response
edit:
....boredom lead to google, google lead to a page of quotes from Karen Traviss, and reading that page lead to anger.
ôYour prowess with a lightsaber is childish vanity. Your physical Force powers are no more than a conjurer's trick, sleight of hand to dazzle the ordinary beings you should be serving. You profane these powers by using them as weapons in war. And you fail to grasp the single, simple, uncompromising duty of the true Jedi. The Jedi is the rock-lion at the gate who says, "I will defend these beings with my life, and that is the sum of me." Etain Tur-Mukan died to save one life, a man she did not even know, but felt compelled to save, and that is what made her stronger in the Force and a truer Jedi than any of you acrobats, tricksters, and specious, empty philosophers.ö

If memory serves, that man Etain saved was a Clone Trooper standing between a Padawn being hunted by the new Galactic Empire and freedom. This above line sums up KT's opinion on the Jedi and it's so FLAWED and full of fail that I can feel my blood beginning to boil. Look I don't think Jedi are incorruptible saints. However I do believe that, on the whole, they've consistently been a force for justice in the galaxy. They've certainly done more good than the Mando's she's constantly praising
When KT was writing her Commando books I had little to no problem with her. She had her own little corner of Star Wars where she could spout whatever shit she wanted and it wouldn't impact the grander tale. Then some idiot put her on a major series dealing with the New Jedi Order. That person needs a reprimand. You do not put a person with such an obvious dislike for a major aspect of the universe
on a story where the focus is going to be that aspect.
I mean she shoved her Mandos in sideways to a story that really didn't have any place for them because she so desperatly needed to scratch that itch. Then she had Ben Skywalker thinking about how great it'd be to be a Mando, followed by making Luke, and Jaina both look like idiots, and the crowning Jewel is that she killed Mara Jade....and failed to tell Zahn about it....while he was working on a story involving his character.
So she runs rampent through the Star Wars EU, changing backstories as she likes (in one case to make Fett more heroic....as well as turning Mandos ino farmers for some reason), downplaying the powers and contributions of the Jedi, while raising the Mandos up for praise...and then get's pissy when GL decides to show pacifist Mandos in his clone wars cartoon....
She kills off Mara Jade and expects the other who created the character and was working on a story involving her to just grin and bear it, but when George Lucas shows another group of Mando's she throws a hissy fit and leaves?
(there are rumors she was let go but nothing I can confirm)
Yeah....by all means KT stay away from Star Wars. Go to Gears of War I'm sure we'll all be happier for it.
Oh, one last thing.
ôAnd nobody has the right to judge a soldier from the warmth and safety of their armchair.ö

Yet the Jedi are obviously exempt from this since you do just that in your works.
edit 2:
Karen Traviss broke the Star Wars base for all intents and purposes. She's undoubtedly one of the best authors but she has a really huge Gary-Stu thing going for the Mandalorians. She also really considers canon "optional" when it comes to good storytelling. I agree with this attitude, but she quit because hers was being changed.
Here's a short list of what she did.
* The Mandalorians did not die out except for Jango Fett and a handful of soldiers after the Jedi Knights defeated them at Galidraan (Jango's EU backstory). Instead, there's billions of them left across the galaxy.
* The Clones are a slave army that secretly hates the Jedi Knights and considers it justice when they're murdered.
* The Jedi Knights are emotionally cold baby snatchers who are all loyal to the Jedi Knights.
* A group of 12 Mandalorians can send a Sith Lord fleeing in terror without him killing any of them.
* It's justice when a bunch of Jedi padawans are murdered during Order 66 for killing the clones attacking them.
* Jaina Solo's problem is that she doesn't enter a pure battle rage when she fights and the best way to defeat a Sith Lord is to allow your mind to become a red mist of pure battlelust.
* There's only 200 million or so battle droids versus 3 million clones in the galaxy.
* There's thousands of Jedi Knights who have rejected Yoda's viewpoints as evil and dogmatic that we never see on screen.
(Which is actually kind of cool)
* A character who was Mandalore after Jango Fett (Spar) was retconned into being a puppet figurehead for a character that she preferred as Mandalore.
* Mandalorians value family and honor above all things with being strong nature enthusiasts. Why they hate the Jedi who are anti-family and anti-emotions.
* The reason she is leaving Star Wars is in the CGI series next season, the Jedi Knights assist a group of pacifist Mandalorians who admire and love the Jedi Knights against an evil Mandalorian faction of expanionist warlords. Which doesn't fit her idea that Mandalorians loathe the Jedi.
Remember, to be a good person, you need to never ever use the Force.
Because it turns you evil.
Boba Fett was sheer bloody joy to write, of course; my Mando boys never let me down. Getting into Jedi heads was that much harder. But I swore I could get into the most repellent characters' heads and see them as they see themselves, so I had to. I still wouldn't trust the Jedi Council with my wallet, let alone with running my country, but you won't spot that in the books. I keep my spoonbenderist views to myself.
I see Vader as a tragic character who's been betrayed by everyone, and I can't help thinking of the Jedi as self-serving unelected elitist spoon-benders making whoopee on Republic taxpayers' credits. It's an iconoclastic journo world-view. Believe me, Order 66 was long overdue. I have a couple of Jedi that I don't want to shoot on sight, but they're my own creations, so I could make them a little humbler and more aware of the consequences they create for others.
