Now that we have embedded videos, I'd like to ask.

Embedded videos, yea or nay?

The alternative to embedded videos is to link them.

I vote no. Even more obnxious and slow to load than pictures, and you just know some idiot is going to try and stick like four in his signature.

I'm of the same mind here. They can be obnoxious, even if you may have to click to play.

I don't really care either way personally, but if it causes trouble for other people, then I suppose it should be kept to a minimum. Maybe add a note in the rules that people should avoid embedding videos if possible, outside of threads where you'd expect them? I think things like the Awesome AMV thread allowing embedded videos might be fine as long as you know what to expect when wandering into the thread.

No. Because the last time I went to a thread with more than 5 embedded videos. Firefox crashed/froze.

I get the software equivalent of the middle finger when there's a certain amount like ragnarok1337 had. I vote no.

I can personally attest to the fact that they've been used for video flaming already...

wgaf unless they become used obnoxiously (as said above)

Now if there's an option to disable embedded objects like there is with signatures and images that would be helpful.

I don't care either way. I only embedded a video in that one thread because I saw I had the option and I figured it would not hurt.

I've got a chrome extension installed that prevents embedded videos from playing or buffering until I click on them so I don't care. Even a dozen of them in a single post won't cause me longer loading times. But since not everyone has an extension like that they probably shouldn't be allowed.

On the one hand, embedded videos lets you get at least some level of hint as to what the video is compared to just clicking a link. On the other hand, you just know the inevitable newbies that'll start showing up eventually will spam dozens of them per post if we have them.

I vote nay.

I vote nay.
Or you could create a hyperlink and name the video.

Still not as good.

I vote Yea. But only if there's like 1 or 2 vids otherwise just link them.

I vote no. If you can post a thumbnail of the thing, that would work well enough to show what it is. Otherwise just a link. I could really do without a bunch of videos autoplaying. They may not, but there is still a chance that they could.

I don't have a problem with embedded videos. I'd like it if we could keep them - I saw the one half baked cat posted, and my immediate reaction was, "Oh my god we can embed videos now! Yay!"

But at the same time, I understand loading issues. Still, I don't think we should ban the option because somebody at some point might abuse it. An option to toggle embedding on and off in the User CP would be a great compromise.

Voted yes, as long as people don't go crazy with them outside of clearly labelled threads. My browser would never crash from it (I think, I've seen over 20 embeds work flawlessly before) but I know others aren't quite that lucky.

Well, usually I would vote yea on things like this, but since they can't be disabled...

Actually no, let's go with yea. Anybody who abuses them with tons of autoplay can be addressed later.

Thats the point of mods isnt it? ;p

To ban idiots who embed too many videos. If it really gets bad, we could have a second vote.

We could always try making it so that you can only embed a certain number per post, and that any after that automatically get turned to links. The Nexon forums do that, I think.

Also, Shiro, do we still have a ten image per post limit like on oTFF?

#25
If you want ban imbeds why not ban pics too? they can cause loading issues if too many are in a thread, they can be more annoying since you have to constantly spam page down too.

Seriously just allow it and get rid of the assholes who abuse the shit. It's useful as fuck to have to know if you won't like it ahead of time.
