There's also the question of whether he can release the NP, as it's not his.á That's the reason he can't use Gae Bolg, or the other NPs he copies, because he's not the wielder of the weapon.á Archer gets around this by breaking the Phantasms, overloading them with mana and firing them as arrows.

Come on trev, you can be better than this. Actually, I don't get it. Why do you think he wouldn't be able to use them? I thought it was pretty common knowledge that he could, I mean, even in most of the fanfics have him releasing the stuff he traces. And, as noted, in the game he can and does release them.
I . . . have no idea where I got that from, honestly. I seem to have misunderstood the subtext of
owner versus
wielder. I thought Shirou and Gil had many weapons that they could use, but couldn't release as NP - which is why they sword-spam and stick to things that have passive effects, like Enkidu and Durandal, or Kanshou/Bakuya.
<s>That, and old translations of incomplete paths and idiots on Wiki pages.</s>
But what it really implied was that wielders are better because they've spent all their time mastering one NP, while Shirou and Gil just learn to be decent with a load of them. Yeah?
Well, fuck me. The only inhibitor for Shirou and Archer is prana cost, then? Fuck me sideways. UBW doesn't quite mean what I think it means. Also, Archer releasing Caladbolg arrow with it's name now makes sense.
