In case you have not read it already on the Beast's Lair:

<a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8933567/1/The-Passing-Lily' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8933567/1/The-Passing-Lily</a>
I feel as if... something important has happened to me.
I could not understand it... was it possible?
I had just met him.
But...
I had already fallen in love...
...I see someone liked Cloud Atlas.

Honestly, all I can think after reading it is, "Okay, where's the point?" I usually like to have some sort of build up lead to an actual climax in a story, and there was a severe lack of it in that fic. It's more like a meandering prologue to a story that just grew and grew until it died under its own weight, never leading anywhere.

If it was going to actually be a story just about how Saber Lily came into being, it really should have actually focused more on Saber without so much random skipping to pointless meetings with a past incarnation of Shirou.

...Which has already been said, but I felt like venting in some manner after that annoying story climax cockblock.

i would like to recommend <a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8560965/12/#top' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>God Slaying Blade Works</a> if only for the Omake at the end of chapter 11.

If that fic was a sandwich, I'd say that it had too much bread and not enough filling. The worst part about it is that it's not even good bread.

Sadly I have to partially agree. While I like the story more then you that whole chapter stank of pointless filler.

It can't be as bad as that Infinite Stratos crossover.
BTW FYI chapter 13 went up like half a week ago.
I'm currently annoyed with the Infinite Stratos universe. After getting flack for my own silly fic in there, I did some more digging and investigation about how the world there worked.

To be frank, it was so full of wanking (all kinds - harem, female domination, ... etc) that I couldn't see how to do anything good in there without a MASSIVE overhaul. Unless something really REALLY noteworthy comes up, I ignore fanfiction from that section.

-chronodekar
And yet I caught crap for laying out how contrived the series is when I first watched it.

I recommended it more for the okame then the actual story. i read it for the giggles from Ilya's comments on the harem the other guy has.

That's omake. Okame sounds too much like okama. And all the okama I know of in anime are too cool for that fic.

Wait, what? If I recall correctly, about two of us outright said we only watched it for Charles. Most people didn't avoided it or were like you. There were people defending it?!?! It was obvious from the get-go the series was terrible.

Well I have mixed feelings about it. But if you like the Shirou in his earlier work you would probably like this...

That said, I can't quite put my finger down on why its interesting to me.

None of that fic is anything original. Lots of it is stolen from Hills and there is some stuff that is stolen from Alexandriad with some stuff stolen from one of those random snipplets on Spacebattles' multiverse thread of ZnT crosses AND some other stuff that is stolen from one of GB's threads on the old FForums. It is almost a direct copy paste of important scenes with some "new" flavor text.

He has done this before with many, many of his other fics where he just copies wholesale from other fics and combines it with other ones that are also copied. Eventually, he will get to original stuff but that will take a while... Either it is that or he is just copying other stuff from famdoms that I don't read.

For an example that is close to home, check out one of the Naruto/bleach fics that he wrote about Naruto/Toshirou. He took scenes almost word for word from Fosfor's Crimson Edge and modified some of the wording. It also has traces of another fic from the Bleach fandom that I vaguely remember.

One of his Harry Potter fics is a mash of popular fics from that time period. Not sure which one of them or if it is all of them but this guy does it a lot. That is why you get the feeling that you have read his fic before even on the first read.

Not a bad read... I've never read anything by this author before, any idea how fast he updates?

In Fate Revenant Sword, which Miracle of Zero is a sequel to:

The author posted an average of 7558.6 words every 21.9 days.

Q: Do you know what time it is?
A: Friggin' CHART TIME.

Not that fastest, pretty meh speed wise.

On the other hand, he's pretty reliable. He'll generally have an interval of a couple of weeks between updates, but you can usually rely upon him to get them out consistently.

[Edit] Looking at that chart, maybe he's not as consistent as I thought...

Worse.

People complained about HoS Shirou being OOC? This guy acts nothing like any canon version of Shirou.

Hell, he acts more like a shitty Gilgamesh clone than anything.

...I know he put the AN at the bottom,

dat AN said:
A reminder: this is Fate/Revenant Sword Normal End Shirou, not regular FSN Shirou or FRS Good End Shirou. If you haven't read FRS, that's okay; this works fine as a standalone, you just have to extend your suspension of disbelief a little further.
so explicitly:
This story is a sequel.

This Shirou is a Contractor with Gaia, after a bunch of, of stuff happened.

Anyway, based on what I've seen, I think it's better than HoS, but that's just a difference of opinion between the two of us.

Well, if it's a complaint about how this Shirou is so damn OP, on the other hand, it's mild spoilers, but the other Void masters are all going to summon heroic spirits as their familiars, so Shirou's not going to be the only punching contestant in his weight class.

does he still have the Sword of Uber Haxness that with a little bit of Od/Mana/Prana can WTFPWN Ea because it's a mix between Arondight, Excalibur and Galatine and the Sheathe of 'Salvation'?

I've seen all of the anime for FSN, KNK, UBW, Tsukihime, and ZNT (all 4 seasons)... I've seen none of the visual novels for any of them. I've also watched *half* of Fate Zero but was so disgusted with it gave up after episode 12 in disappointment.

Most but not all of my reading in all those respective fandoms above is crossovers or lemons. I have of course read Hill of Swords alone with a number of other various ZNT crosses.

I read Miracle of Zero first as it seemed self contained enough and I was curious... It does not come across as *bad* reading so far. It also comes across to me at least as just different enough from Hill of Swords to still be entertaining to read. Though I certainly agree on characterization protrail as some here have brought up. But one must take into account not just the different version of Shiro, but the fact this is a Shiro some 67+ years old, despite looks. A 67+ year old person is going to have a far different view of things than a 17+ or 20's+ Shiro.

I'm currently into the 4th chapter of Fate Revenant Sword. Mixed feelings on that one like and hate different parts, but so far a tolerable read, certainly well enough written for me to continue reading... for now... we shall see as I get further in.

When did the acceptable standard of fanfics become 'it's not BAD, per se...'?
Since when has "it's not bad in itself" been unacceptable?
Always, to me. I do not require perfection or even excellence. I do, however, insist that stories that get recced here should be superior. Not simply 'not bad', I want to see GOOD fics recced here.

The story is a ripoff of a popular fic, plus it's a sequel to a wish-fulfillment fic that's not even good itself because it turns the protagonist into a Mary Sue.

So, no, nothing about this story is worth a rec.

You could be right... meaning I only have *what I read so far* to go on, I've not read some 80%+ of the 1st story and the one chapter of the new one... so far. But not everyone shares the opinion that it was bad. So far, it is good enough I'm willing to continue reading, but we will see how it goes as I get further in...
