For those that didn't know George Lucas is planning to re-release all of the Star Wars Films in 3D starting in 2012 with the Phantom Menace.

...okay, so maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to post this, but still.

Well, nothing to do but watch how this will go.

Meh. I'm sure they'll look amazing but I'm not giving Lucas any more of my money.

That's the problem with the so-called 3d of cinema these days... it's just a series of 2d images placed on top of each other and nothing really that special. Until they make proper 'Emperor Palpatine in the Control Room' holograms then 3d is just another cash cow.

On the other hand, I fucking love Star Wars and I hope I have enough money to milk that cow to death.

This wasn't too big of a surprise. Lucas has said for years that he wanted to release the Star Wars movies in 3D, but that he was waiting for market saturation for it to happen. With the big push to 3D this year, it only made sense.

Star Wars is dead.

It's only mostly dead, apparently.

And Legacy, this is as good a reason as any. Perhaps the perfect reason...

Ehh. I don't know why people lambast the prequels too much. Star Wars is and always has been a scifi action movie. If you want philosophical digressions or well thought out characters, go watch Ghost in the Shell or something.

It doesn't need to be philosophical; it just needs to be JarJar-free. Unfortunately, a 3D TPM would just bring JarJar to horrifying new dimensions.

The prequels have awesome action scenes, but they also have that cringe-worthy romance subplot and Christensen's wooden acting.

Frankly, I found the original movies did it all and did it better.

They did, and this.

I have no real issues with it save one: Movies cannot be converted to 3D without fucking them up severely. The conversion darkens everything in a rather dramatic manner. In order to compensate for that, you have to shoot the films in a specific way. That's why movies made for 3D showing from the get-go are actually pretty cool (like the Toy Story movie), because they are shot from the beginning as much lighter to compensate, but movies that are shot normally and converted afterwards (like Avatar: TLA) blow donkey dick, and you can hardly see what the hell is happening.

I'm not looking forward to 3D Star Wars for one reason, and one reason only: they're gonna be conversions. And that means, by default, they're going to be of very sub-standard quality as far as 3D cinema goes.

We all agree the whole 3D thing here is overrated...As for me, I see the prequels as the first act they were imagined to be in a larger bit...They build up to the classic trilogy.

Christ, I haven't watched the Star Wars movies in years. I should probably remedy that sometime soon.

Seeing this topic makes me want to play Battlefront 2 again. :flameon:

Unless the scene in question has been re-re-re-mastered so that Han shoots first again, not even gonna consider looking at it. Seriously, Lucas. You are squeezing blood from a stone.

It's a little too subtle for a Sunday, my friend.
Hm, pity.
I did, actually. Jar-Jar is horrifying in all dimensions we can perceive him in, and expanding that is just criminal. Criminal, I say. :p

When I was a kid, I used to like Jar Jar. I had a lego toy of him and all. Yall be hating a bad character like he's the only one in Star Wars... I mean, look at the fucking Ewoks! I watched the Trilogy the other day and I could not stop cringing at the complete cheese that is the Ewoks. Doesn't mean that I don't love Star Wars though; thankfully, it is not a single secondary-character(s) that defines a film.

Eh. I don't actually care, I just enjoy mocking Jarjar because he's a terrible character. ^_^

He's not that bad; he was never intended as a serious character, just comic relief, which he is a role he is hilariously awesome in.

Agreed; comedy relief is JarJar's role. Glad the original comedy relief in C-3P0 and R2-D2 were able to reclaim their thrones in the other two prologue movies. Though, I'm sure the hurricane of puns those two had on Genosis was a bit much for some.
