I realize that the anime is.........awful awful turd on a stick. But the Light Novel is A-Grade stuff. And I mean REALLY good. I just went through all 12 volumes currently released and I'd be willing to put it right up there with To Aru Majutsu no Index. At the very least it has a great atmospheric pull to it and one of the few Protagonist characters who deserve his harem and who have legit reasons to be oblivious(initially).

So let's talk, in the name of Oppai Dragon-kun

It's a translation, it's going to be pretty hard to be a fan of something like that from the beginning. I actually like it because well, it gives the character introspection part without having to throw everything at your face as if you were an ignorant mother fucker.

Got a link to the LN? Might be an interesting read.

The anime was interesting, but went a bit overboard with Ero. The manga isn't much better.

The novel is much more interesting to me, as the focus is Ise and his.......thoughts. The way his mentality work, is in many ways interesting. Try getting up until......Koneko-chan's arc.

I personally found both......distillations of the series pretty bad.

Not really. For example, I like the style of Baka to Test.

Highschool reads like a stream of consciousness from an ADD kid who's high from a sugar rush and just drank 5 cups of coffee and is currently mainlining 5 hours energy.

In other words, it's juvenile. The main character doesn't help.

I can't say that's wrong, but I also don't think the juvenile mentality is bad; it does make the series fun. Though, I can see where the writing style could end up bothering you: it gives High School DxD the strengths and weakness of a typical shonen manga.

I wouldn't say it's bad, I just don't like it.

I've never read Baka, is it any good? What are it's good points if any?

Good points are the characters and their characterization. Also the subtle jokes.

Bad points? It might get confusing sometime (who's speaking, where they are, and what not).

As for is it good?

It's silly, but that silliness is fun.

That and I like the main character, even if he is an idiot and a pervert (he's actually similar to the main of Highschool in those regards).

And I mean idiot. It's in the title.

I also noted that a lot of light novels have that same tendency. Think it might more of a writing style/cultural difference thing or something?

it DOES get better as the story goes on, there's actual character development on the protagonists end, some mind you, but the series got me at the end of the Asia character arc where despite the pleading, crying, and on her knees begging for her life the protagonist still has the fallen angel killed off. So ya, other Shounen series would have tried to redeem her, not this one! SOOOOOOO satisfying. ^_^

She was a remorseless, unrelenting, manipulative bitch that mocked Issei's feelings and beliefs, plus killed the sweetest, purest girl in the world for her power. and then tried to get Issei to spare her by gaming his feelings even after she had thoroughly shattered any illusions of them having something. There was not a shred of anything redeemable about her.

She wasn't trying to get Issei to spare her. She tried to get Issei to turn on his master.

Buchou didnÆt have the slightest sympathy in her tone. Reynalle started to shiver. Maybe I felt a bit sorry for her, because she was my ex-girlfriend ôYuumaùchanö, perhaps. Well, that was also part of her sick plan. Reynalle then looked at me. She then made sorrowful eyes at me.

ôIse-kun! Please save me!ö

Her voice was that of Yuuma-chan, when she was my girlfriend.

ôThis Devil is trying to kill me! I love you! I love you so much! ThatÆs why, letÆs defeat this Devil together!ö

Reynalle acted like Yuuma-chan again, and appealed for help to me while crying. I was stupid for feeling a bit sorry for you, Yuuma-chan. No, Fallen Angel.

ôGoodbye, my love. Buchou, IÆm at my limit... Will you please....ö

After hearing that, the Fallen Angel froze.

ô.....DonÆt try to flirt with my cute Servant. Disappear.ö
Emphasis mine. She was irredeemable. Yes, like Eromancer said, it was very satisfying.

I really like the Light Novel, as it tells the story so much better than the anime did. Thanks a lot ADD. ^_^

Briefly read the manga. Was thoroughly insulted when the main character declares "God doesn't care" about the nun and called on Satan for power instead.

OH YES, GOD TOTALLY ISN'T HELPING OUT HERE. IT'S COMPLETE COINCIDENCE THE NUN JUST SO HAPPENED TO RUN INTO A DEMON THAT'S WILLING TO HELP SAVE HER FROM FALLEN ANGELS- WHICH SATAN IS ONE OF - AT GREAT PERSONAL RISK TO HIMSELF AND SIGNIFICANT PHYSICAL PAIN.

Fuck that series. It should be banned.

It's not that He doesn't care, is that He can't. Volume 3 of the LN reveals that God and the Original Devil, Maou, are dead.

from page 195-196
ThatÆs right. ItÆs normal that there is no love from God and no divine
protection from him. God is gone already. Michael is certainly doing well.
HeÆs taking the place of God and is taking care of the angels and humans.
Well if the ôsystemö used by God is operating, then the prayer to God, the
blessing to God, and exorcism would function. But if you compare it to the
time God was present, the number of believers decreased. That Holy-demonic
sword brat over there was able to create the Holy-demonic sword because the
balance between God and the Maou broke. In reality, Holy and demonic
powers cannot merge. If the ones who rule the power of Holy and demonic
powers, God and the Maou, disappear then lots of unique phenomenon occur.ö

Ok yeah, this series is riddled with heresy. Ban it and burn it's authors at the stake.

So you're saying you support this work of fiction over your faith and duty?

Dude, I thought your religious beliefs lie somewhere between Satanism and actually believing that the fictional religion of WH40K was real. So excuse me and others if we want to call bullshit on you.

BTW, I can distinguish between fictional escapism and heretical ravings. On top of that, it's set in Japan. Not exactly a nation known for its intense Judeo-Christian faith.

You're welcome, I expect your mind to break soon from the awesome nonsense of the Chichiryuutei.....beware the song. That is all.

And everyone, don't feed the trolls (AKA Gafgar), obvious troll is obvious.

So, what should we discuss next? The girls? Issei? The Maou Rangers?

Edited for ADD's truth: It was depressing that Issei was suffering from slight gynophobia? Not so much as to avoid being friends, but definitely caused him to ignore the cues that the girls actually cared for him and weren't going to go axe crazy one him if he tried to commit a romantic relationship with one of them.

Same difference. :p

@ DKG: This is probably a lot more common in Japanese works, where devils and demons are often times portrayed much more sympathetically/heroically than angels, to the point of even role reversing who's the "good" and "bad" guys are.
