If possession is nine-tenths of the law, Gendo just repo'd his ass, right?
I can't help but chuckle as I picture Shinji with REPO in big, red, block-letters stamped on his forehead.

O...K?

Sorry, just got done reading the new chapter of Realms, unable to think of much else right now.

Also watched Evangelion 1.11 on Blu-Ray earlier. It's been a good night.

Yes... let's stick an unwilling pilot into the giant death machine.

THERE'S NO WAY THIS CAN GO WRONG.

well, in both the original Steel Jeeg and Daltanious it went pretty well...

Saying that some ideas worked because of author fiat doesn't help.

There's a reason why the USAF doesn't take conscripts, after all.

Oooh, interesting. Let's see what the real leaders at SEELE have to say regarding Shinji's demands.

Gendo could try putting Fuyutsuki publicly in charge and pretending to disappear, while still controlling the scenario from behind the scenes. I wonder what Shinji would do if he found that out, later?

A proper application of this in practice
'Yea verily, though I charge through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for I am driving a house-sized mass of "fuck you."'

He'd shout at me for not wearing my tinfoil hat.

I keep telling you that tin foil will only enhance the reception. Go ceramic. Yes, it's silly wearing an oversized coffee mug on your head. Still a better way to keep those mind probes away.

"Whatever it takes" meaning "appeal to Shinji's libido"? It's not like he's lacking in that regard, just too lacking in confidence in canon to follow up on it. Well, that, and Misato only used it as a motivational tool at the very end in canon. ;)

Of course, if they do, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this Shinji said something along the lines of "I'll think about it", fuck them both (possibly with promises of more in the future), and then revert back to "No."

Bummer... I wanted to read of Gendos reaction upon hearing the condition Shinji placed on his continuing to pilot.

On the other hand... we know what Gendo thinks of Shinji when Shinji stands up to him... Gendo basically states how he would not kowtow to a petulant brat. I'm referring to the 13th.

In any case, Ritsuko would have been better off telling the truth than telling a lie that transparant... Especially since I doubt Gendo would care enough to go along with it.

Groans...

The forum link to first new post took me to that last snippet... did not realize it was there above it. Though Raa skipped it, which he has done from time to time.

Edit; Ummm... I really cannot picture Gendo just giving in like that.

He's not so much giving in as using Shinji's demand as an excuse to put himself into a more favorable position. With him no longer officially in command of NERV, he can't be blamed if anything goes wrong.

In essence, he's using Shinji's attitude to boost his own plans.

Perfectly Gendo.

I have to say it: what could possibly go wrong?

I wonder if they (or anyone else they could grab, whether it be random techs, maintenance workers, Section 2....) will make some more back-up plans or do strategy sessions. I think they will have enough trouble trying to take care of themselves or their work (Ritsuko being a head scientist, though I don't recall how much work Misato does). Will we see what some of the other employees in the know (Aoba, Hyuuga, Ibuki, Section 2....) think about this whole snowball of hell? The commanders seem to have it all figured out though; too bad they are not the kind of people to share it with others.

Is it even possible to speed up the repairs of Unit-00 & construction of Unit-02? Or are those constrained by the scenario? Well, not for the former.

Also, if you are making Gendo a bit unsure (or merely curious?) in the snippet two above, it seems kind of off. I suppose that is one card you are keeping close to yourself?

That is not nessecarily true... Lord Raa has had stories that do not go that direction. For NGE Sausages it was a Tuesday comes immediately to mind.

Well, it could end with Shinji becoming an Eldritch Abomination.
