For conflict I do think that some of the League would be worried about Negi's brush with darkness. They don't expect him to turn evil, but they do feel that 10 is a little young to be wrestling with such internal darkness.
Timothy Hunter and John Constantine might try a hand at helping Negi and keep Barbatos off his back. But they'd probably scorn anyone like the plague who tries to make a ten year old kid fight a grownup's battle.

I could very well imagine Negi riding on top of Happy the golem's shoulder

Most of the JLA and other good guys would probably have trouble being civil towards th really powerful grownups of the Negiverse, IMO, due to involving Negi and his class into things kids at their ages should stay away from.
A little risky, I mean robins 13....and has been doing this for four years.

Pot meet kettle....
They have complained about it haven't they? And the JLA have had days when members went renegade due to supervillain influence or mental breakdown and that the awesome powers some of them wielded just made things worse, like with the machinations of Parallax.
Exactly. Superman tried to talk Batman out of working with Robin originally. Bruce told him where he could stuff it. Out of all of them Batman would be the least likely to complain about a kid joining the mission if he was capable and willing to work hard.
Jason Todd is probably still a sore subject to Bruce and all the others who donned the mantle of Robin. All of the JLA make mistakes and Superman probably had a point in being critical of Bruce having kid sidekicks, even though the sidekicks did many good things in the line of duty.

That depends on which continuity you're working on. In some, the first Robin was 11 to 14 when he started. More importantly, even when he started at 9, Batman was there with him for most of his early patrols, not hanging around some place relatively safe. That's one thing Batman would certainly have a problem with.

Current continuity, I think the only Robin to start younger than age 14 was Damian (who I seriously, seriously try to ignore as bad writing all around). Even Tim Drake, despite being recruited and having a couple of adventures at age 13, was still run through a year and more of training before being allowed to do a Bruce-approved debut in costume, let alone fly solo. (Not to mention Alfred & Dick practically had to hold Bruce down and twist his arms to make Bruce take another Robin at all, after Jason.) Heck, at one period Tim had standing orders from Batman saying 'If I am not in Gotham City and a villain above this size shows up, call this certain phone # in Metropolis immediately.'

PS: Plus, of course, Bruce does occasionally chew other people out for taking risks that he himself has also taken. 'I am the Goddamn Batman; I can take the same calculated risks I am ripping on you for taking because I am that much better at calculating them!' and so forth.

Powergirl watched as Keitaro practiced with Artemis, and Blue Beetle. The Three youths were taking on Big Barda, who seem focused on flattening Keitaro.
"So...do you intend to pursue him?"

The Clone watched as Artemis and Beetle remained at Range, while Keitaro was forced into melee. The Ronin dodged and blocked as best he could but was quickly forced to retreat. Thankfully Artemis intervened with the save, her flash arrow exploding, blinding the former fury. Beetle attacks next filling the air with blasts of energy, as Keitaro yanks a manhole cover off the ground and wields it like an improvised shield.

Karen turned to find Ms. Martian observing the battle "I'll continue to tease." she replied as Keitaro batted B.B. into a wall with the manhole cover. "But honestly....I don't look at him that way."

Ms. Martian arched an eyebrow. "Really? Then what was that scene in the chow hall?"

Karen laughed "I knew Kara was watching...that was for her." She smiled "The look on her face was priceless!"

Barda, decided to stop playing. She came out of the hole in the wall swinging, taking down Beetle whoÆd gotten a little to close before hurling tossing her maul at Artemis. The girl dodged and rolled, coming up firing, only to have chunks of concrete ripped from the floor come arrowing towards her.

ôKeitaro is a sweet guy, but not really my type...besides...ö her lips quirked upwards as Keitaro placed himself between a charging Barda and Artemis. The former ronin shouted something over his shoulder as he rooted himself to the ground, hands locked with the former furies, engaging in a pure test of strength. Which Keitaro was slowly losing. ôThe playing field is getting just a bit crowded.ö

Artemis hesitated for a second, and then fired. Keitaro fell and rolled as the arrow detonated, making Barda take the worst of it. Even so, the blast was more than enough to slam the hybrid-Kryptonian into the ground forming a crater, and send Barda through another wall.

ôEnd program.ö Black Canary called from her observation spot, as æBardaÆ shimmered and disappeared, revealing a severely mangled machine. Beetle was helping Keitaro pull himself out of the floor while Artemis moved to stand with her training partners. ôKeitaro....that is the THIRD time youÆve pulled the self sacrifice card to win...ö

What followed was a rather vicious tongue lashing that made the various people observing the fight wince, and left the three teens with no butts to speak of.
ôAnd just how crowded is the playing field?ö The Martian tilted her head to the side, curious.

Powergirl began counting on her fingers ôSo far...Wonder girl, Batgirl, Secret...ö

As if summoned said smoke girl formed up beside a rather dejected Keitaro as he and his team left the training room. Elsewhere a number of other young league girls could be seen glowering at her, ticked off that sheÆd gotten to KeitaroÆs side first.

I don't know why given the use of the more Galatea-like Powergirl, but for some reason I was picturing the adult Amazon Artemis being close to Keitaro and not the teen Arrowette ripoff from the new Young Justice toon. Still that was a very good snippet. I miss seeing Secret included in DC fics.

I was/am going to use Negi in the DCVerse thing. No fair. ::p: Also if you guys have had a chance to read the lexicon about "The Great Birth Canal" that Negi used, trump card #5, it mentioned that creating life was it's greatest secret or something along those lines. Also it's not like he'd be the first good guy with demonic powers. Red Devil, Blue Devil, in that order just cause that's the trope red oni blue oni goes. Raven is half demon. Secret I believe also made a deal with some demon. Jason Blood and Etrigan.

Also add onto his Magia Erebus with a Star Sapphire, or White Lanter Ring. Star Sapphire cause come on. White lantern cause it would be a nice contrast to Magia Erebus.

Secret was a great character. I still recall how sad and vulnerable she looked when Robin finally admited to having a girlfriend. Now considering how she hunted down and tried to 'scare' the Spoiler away from Robin, I wonder what she'd do to the Hina girls....

Fine, fine you can have Negi...but there's a price. I have all dibs on any magical (IE Dresden Files crosover) Keitaros and anything where he becomes similar to Doc Samson from the Hulk comics.

Ditto.

Had an idea long ago, of a Secret/Spoiler/Batgirl fic, possibly involving Robin III.

Kanako remained stoically silent as she observed the various Watchtower surveillance videos that had been shown to her by the most unlikely of sources. Finally she looked to her visitor and asked, "So neither of them are pursuing Oniichan?"

"Not at this time. If anything, Kara seems to see him as something akin to a little brother. She has expressed interest in meeting and befriending you personlly when Keitaro returns here. Powergirl just enjoys irritating her original," Batman confirmed in an equal deadpan.

"That is... unexpected," Kanako commented. It was beyond rational for her to consider that a woman near his age wouldn't want Keitaro romantically. Still the evidence presented by the Batman was very compelling. "Why show me this?"

"Two reasons. One, storming the Watchtower would disrupt League operations and needlessly upset several full members and reservists, including your brother," Batman explained.

Kanako's eyes darkened in something akin to embarassment or shame but she did not display any other emotion. That level of control impressed the Dark Knight and only affirmed his decision as he added, "The other is, I could use a permanent operative here to help keep watch over Keitaro's progress. You seem the best suited to the job. And it would be difficult for you to keep an eye on him from Belle Reeve after you attacked several full memebers of the League."

The mention of prison gave Kanako pause. The Urashima name gave the residents of the Inn a great deal of leeway in the Hinata prefecture, and indeed in all of Tokyo itself. Motoko's family allowed the girls them a similar degree of freedom in Kyoto. None of that would matter in places like the Hall of Justice in Metropolis or the Watchtower itself. "Whe me?" Kanako finally asked.

"Your skills are fairly impressive in fields where Keitaro could use support such as stealth and infiltration. Besides, you would have been watching out for him anyway," Batman noted with a wry curl of his lip.

"Point," Kanako conceded.

"In exchange for your help I will provide you with some training, equipment, and financing to better help you in your task. Or would you prefer I go to Motoko-san or Haruka-san instead?" Batman asked.

"No," Kanako interjected faster than was strictly necessary. Although she liked Motoko as much as she could like any of the girls there she still had issues with Kendo-girl's treatment of Keitaro early on. Not to mention Motoko's obviously growing interest in Keitaro. As for Haruka, well they never really did get along all that well. "Your offer seems acceptable."

Batman nodded in acknowlegement to her acceptance before he said, "Someone will be in touch soon."

Kanako's attention was diverted a moment to the sound of Kuro on her bed. When she turned back, Batman was gone. "Impressive," she said.

"Meow, I didn't even notice him leave," Kuro said with a wide eyed stare.

Kanako reached out to pet her black cat as it floated to her side and responded, "Can we trust the Batman?"

"He smells faintly of cats, meow. Seems pretty trustworthy to me," Kuro supplied.

Kanako allowed herself a tiny smile before she said, "You're just hoping he sends Catwoman to help train me."

"You have your heroes, I have mine, meow." Kuro replied befoew floating out of the room in search of Shinobu and a snack.

Have you thought about how stupid that was? Batman, giving an insane woman access to the Watchtower? Batman knows better than anyone that you do not give any inch to insane people who don't have powers.

What access? He showed her video feeds of Kara and Karen renouncing Keitaro to put her in his pocket and use her as a local operative to monitor her brother. I don't think a portable DVD player/laptop is access to anything. And as for recruiting crazies, I have one thing to say. Jean-Paul Valley.

That's actually how Batman learned better than to recruit crazies. Shame him once, cause that's all he'll allow you on that front.

Some would argue Jason Todd was the first crazy he recruited. Or Eel O'Brian. Or the Creeper. He kind of does it a lot. Batman is bigger with giving second chances to people than he's really given credit for.

A valid point, especially if we look at Batman TAS. It'll take some work, but I think Bats taking Kanako under his wing is a good thing for all concerned.

Interesting, that it is. Like this use of Kanako.

What would she call herself, though?

zeebee1 said:

Well, the girls were helping, by taking care of each other in turns, while he concentrated on the one not being taken care of, or rested. Plus, Secret could do extra arms or tentacles, but I hadn't gone into much detail beyond that.

"... Reports have identified the heroic young man who risked his life to come to Supergirl's aid in the battle with the android Amazo as one Keitaro Urashima of Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Urashima is currently studying Archaeology at Metropolis University and is already noted as one of the top experts in the Turtle Civilization discovered by noted archaeologis atnd adverturer Seta Noriyasu. At this time Mr Urashima is listed as being in stable condition at Metropolis General. This is Snapper Carr for GNN International signing off-" played across the television before Naru snapped it off angrily.

The official spin control put forth by the League was that Keitaro was an injured civilian caught in the cross-fire between Supergirl and Amazo. What little footage of the fight that had surfaced had thankfully been devoid of displaying any kind of super powers on Keitaro's part, so it was thought possible that he could maintain a seperate civlian identity should he choose to. The girls at the Hinata Sou, of course, knew the whole story thanks to Haruka. Keitaro's cousin was made aware of the changes in her 'nephew' from the moment he was no longer studying with Seta so that the young man would have a reliable family contact back home. The fact that Keitaro had not chosen to inform either of his parents spoke volumes about where his trust truly lay.

"Why can't we go see the idiot again?" Naru demanded with an irritated scowl as she recalled how Supergirl's uniform had been torm in the battle with the golden robot.

"For the last time, Naru, The League is helping Keitaro to deal with the powers that create his 'invulnerability.' The last thing they need is a bunch of regular people around them to act as distractions and ripe juicy targets for whatever supervillian might be bothering them that week. You'll just have to be happy with the video calls home for now," Haruka responded evenly before taking a drag of her cigarette. She would never admit it in front of the girls, but part of her wanted to take off and give Keitaro a piece of her mind face to face before hugging the stuffing out of him. Then maybe she'd put a couple of rounds into Seta's fool hide for letting Keitaro get mixed up with a group of superheroes.

"Are we certain it is safe for Urashima to even be there, then?" Motoko asked after a moment.

"Safer for him than us. Sad fact is, the fact he came out of that scrape as well off as he did means they have been doing a lot to help him. For now it's best if we stay out of it until he transfers into Todai in the fall," Haruka reasoned.

If he comes back, Shinobu thought to herself with a sad expression. How could she ever hope to compete with somelne like Supergirl or the other girls in the likes of the Justice League and the Teen Titans. She would seem even more plain and boring to her sempai when compared to the near goddesses he was surrounded by.

"Still, at least one of us should go to check on him. To make certain he is bahaving himself, if nothing else," Motoko argued.

Kitsune rolled her eyes at the rather weak argument Motoko tried to make to get closer to Keitaro. "Fer cryin' out loud, kendo-girl. A lot of the people there could pick up the whole prefecture and drop it on his head if they wanted to. Do ya really think he'd try to cop a feel with anyone that didn't want him to?"

"Well, no intentionally-" Motoko hemmed with a blush.

"Oh, so ya admit most of what he did here before ain't his fault then," Kitsune shot back with a satisfied purr as Motoko's blush deepened. "Or are ya worried someone there might like the idea of a little private time with the flying turtle?"

That comment caused everyone on the room except for Haruka to blush before they all grew progressively agitated and it was clear they were ready to head for Su's room and demand a way to get to Metropolis immediately to rescu- er, punish Keitaro.

Their frenzied motion was stopped short as a cold voice declared, "Enough." from the steps. "You will remain here until Oniichan returns as he requested, or you will not have a home to return to after bothering him," Kanako informed them as she folded her arms and dared them to contradict her.

"But Kanako-" Naru began only to be cut off by the adopted Urashima girl's glare.

"You were ased to remain here by Superman himself at Oniichan's behest. Do you really think Superman of all people would not have asked something of us if it was not important to Keitaro's safety and out own?" Kanako asked.

"Well no, but-" Naru repsonded with an abashed look.

"But what? You know better than the people that have saved this planet several times over? That have saved us from alien invaders and demonic incursions alike for years? I will not have you risk my brother's life because of your insecurities. You will do as you are asked or you have no place on our family lands. Do I make myself clear?" Kanako shot back with a glare.

The thought of actually putting Keitaro at risk made the girls think enough to step back for a moment and realize there were probably very good reasons the League was watching over Keitaro directly at this time. That was enough to stay their hands, at least temorarily. With various mumbled excuses or apologies they all made their way off to their rooms, save Shinobu who headed for the kitchen and Haruka who remained behind in the common room.

"What changed your mind about going after him?" Haruka asked once she was certain they would not be overheard. She hadn't doubted for a moment that Kanako would try to sneak off once she had seen her older brother in the company of Kara.

"Better intelligence. Besides, Oniichan promised he would come home. His word should be good enough for all of them," Kanako replied with a steely look before she turned around and headed back to the manager's room.

Better intelligence? That's an interesting choice of words, Haruka thought before stubbing the rest of his cigarette out in a nearby ashtray and heading back toward the teahouse. It was time to make a couple of calls to make certain the girls stayed in Japan where they belonged. god only knew what would happen of they got hurt trying to chase after their shared object of affection. Keitaro would never forgive himself.

Excellent snippet, I'm glad you took the time to show the girls reaction, as I was having trouble, trying to decide how to portray it.

Now, a short piece for fun.

Keitaro sat back in his chair, the room illuminated by the console's screen. For hours now he'd sat in this room of the watchtower trying to determine what this latest discovery meant. Wonder Girl had brought in an unusual blade discovered in a League of Shadows facility built in what was now thought to be a complex created by the turtle civilization. The blade was of Thanagarian construction but predated all known contacts between Earth and Thanagar, what's more it's hilt included glyphs and scrawl from the Turtle civilization.

After hours of pouring over various text and data Keitaro still had no clue how this thing could exist. By all rights it shouldn't exist, yet here it was defying much of what he and Seta had come to believe about the Turtle Civilization.

The smell of hot coco dragged his mind away from scholarly pursuits and brought his attention to the warm cup of liquid chocolate goodness being offered to him by a familar face.

"Kara!" he beemed as he took the offered drink, thanking her before taking a sip. "What brings you down here?"

Supergirl was in civilain attire, a fairly conservative pair of jeans and sweater top, as she sank into the chair opposit Keitaro. "You missed dinner." she chided "And that happens when you lock yourself down here trying to solve some new mystery."

Keitaro laughed nervously under his friends good natured glare. "Heh...sorry, but this blade brought in by the Titans is absolutly fascinating!"

Kara sighed and patted her friends knee. "Oh no...you are not going to lock yourself away down here until you solve this mystery. You, my friend, are going to get something to eat, call your friends and family back home, and then get some sleep." She stood up expectantly, waiting for him to follow.

Keitaro slowly rose to his feet. "But Kara...this is important and...."

She raised a hand for silence "...and it will still be here tomorrow." A smile spread across her lips as the two walked towards the door. "You may have Kryptonian DNA but even us superhumans need to relax and unwind."

Written to show that Kara is his friend, and does have concerns about him beyond his powers.

"Kara, are you sure this is alright?" Keitaro asked nervously as Kara carried him to their destination. He still had not mastered the elements of his tactile telekinesis that would allow him to fly on his own. (Granted, the pair could have used the trasporter to get to their destination directly, but Kara wanted to show Keitaro how much fun flying for the sake of relaxation could be. Considering most of hs previous flights involved Naru's fist, it was a novel experience for him.)

The Krytonian girl rolled her eyes before smiling sunnily as shre replied, "It's fine, Kei. Ma and Pa accepted me after I had been brainwashed into being one of the Female Furies AND a got into a fight with Darkseid that tore up most of the house and immediate yard. The worst you could do is trip and break a vase or something. Besides, they're been wanting to meet you ever since Clark and I mentioned you. At this point I think they think of themselves as the unofficial adopted parents for all of Earth's resident Kryptonians. Except Powergirl. And you know, jerks like Zod that show up and want to take over the planet."

"Well when you consider I'm the first Kryptonian not related to you and Clark that isn't a supervillian it gets kind of weird," Keitaro protested.

"Rao, you're worse than Kon when he first met them. You're my best friend and it's just lunch with my cousin's adopted family. It's nothing to get worked up over. You eat lunch with a bunch of superheroes almost every day," Kara countered with a smirk.

"And that works out so well when I have a "power malfuction,"" Keitaro groused his own eye roll.

"Just be glad Clark and Orion were able to convince Barda it was an accident and move on, Keitaro," Kara advised him. "Honestly, I'd be more concerned about the fact Artemis seems to have all but adopted you."

"She hasn't said much about it, but I get the feeling she thinks I can't be trusted to take care of myself," Keitaro replied with a sigh. "Although her tribe of Amazons had even more information about the ancient cultures at the time of the split between the two nations than their Themysciran counterparts."

Kara laughed as she speculated, "I think she just likes that someone is finally more interested in her tribe over Diana's."

"Maybe. She really opened up once she understood I wasn't trying to date her," Keitaro shot bach as he craned his neck to give Kara a boyish grin.

Kara chose to keep to leave the matter at that as the Kent family farm appeared in the horizon for her supior vision. "Almost there," she declared with a wide grin.

Keitaro just gulped nervously and tried to put on a brave face. He idly windered if Kara would feel similarly out of her depth when she finally met Aunt Haruka and Kanako-chan for the first time in person? Somehow, the young Ronin doubted it.

As the pair landed, there was an older but still active looking man standing on he porch to the farmhouse with an open grin on his face. "Kara, it's good to see you," Jonathan Kent said as he stepped up and higged his Son's cousin. "And you must be Keitaro. We've heard so much about you," he added as he stepped back from the embrace and offered Keitaro a hearty handshake.

It took Keitaro a moment to reciprocate the motion as he moved to bow instintively at first, but he eventually returned the shake with a shy smile as he reposponded, "Yes. It's, um, good to meet you Mister Kent."

"Now, now, none of that. Call me Jonathan. With the way Clark and Kara talk about you, you're practically family," Jonathan replied, which brought a playful protest of "Pa-!" from the girl in question.

The potential for banter was cut short as a voice from in the house asked, "Are Kara and her friend here, Dear?"

"They just arrived Martha," Jonathan shot back.

"Well bring them in. Lunch is ready and we have fresh apple pie for dessert," Superman's adopted mother informed them.

"Well you heard the lady. Let's eat," Jonathan commented to the young friends with a warm smile.

For her part, Kara just returned the grin with one of her own as Keitaro was led inside. It was good to be 'home." Even for a little while.
