Since Souffle posted up those pics in the other topic I thought it would be good to bring up its on thread for recommendations and the like.

As for fic recs, here are a few of my favorites:

<a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7017831/1/Vengeance_and_Fashion' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Vengeance and Fashion by Tumbleweed,</a> wherein Prince Blueblood come to Ponyville and Twilight, currently filling in for Rarity at her shop, has to deal with him.

<a href='http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/02/story-number-12.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Number 12,</a> straight up one of the best Doctor Who(oves) stories written. That is, a crossover between Doctor Who and MLP:FiM.

<a href='http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/06/story-tabluna-rasa.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>And Tabluna Rasa,</a> a funny and interesting look into the minds of the Mane Cast (don't blame me, I didn't come up with it) regarding Princess Luna.

I'm quite fond of those two.

<a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7063283/1/World_of_Ponycraft' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>World of Ponycraft</a>, which merges Equestria and the Warcraft world, specifically World of Warcraft as of Cataclysm. It's a half <a href='http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RPGMechanicsVerse' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>RPG Mechanics Verse</a>(where the rules of the RPG, in this case World of Warcraft, exist in the story) and half adventure fic. It features the Mane cast.

<a href='http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/04/story-fallout-equestria.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Fallout Equestria</a> is a similar fic which features a future, post-apocalyptic Equestria cast in the Fallout mold. It features a cast of original ponies.

Really a big fan of Fallout: Equestria myself been hooked on that fic for weeks. anyway new recommendations.

<a href='http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/03/story-opener-of-ways.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Opener of Ways</a> - an interesting in universe take of Fourth wall presence and an all around enjoyable read.

<a href='http://fav.me/d3dp7du' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Big Mac's Strange day</a> - This story falls as an intermission of sorts to the authors fic-verse but makes for a very enjoyable oneshot in it's own right.

<a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7080250/1/Its_Always_Sunny_in_Fillydelphia' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>It's Always Sunny in Fillydelphia</a> - Applejack x Soarin'. I normally don't get into ship fics in my little pony but this has such a great flow of events and great Rainbowdash-AJ banter that I can't help but recommend it.

It's a Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door is very good. It stars Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity as they go on a quest to find a cure for dying Twilight. If you have a blinding hatred for any of those three this may not be the story for you (the rest of the cast doesn't show up much) but I really like it. The story has some fantastic world building with a healthy scoop of Tolkien. All three main (or mane if you prefer) characters get plenty of development and the story keeps moving forward (being built around the classic 'quest' archetype makes this very easy).

On the down sides, the author occasionally makes the story jump through hoops to explain why it goes in the direction it does (e.g. there are often much similar solutions of the problems the character face but the author has the characters discuss and discount them for a range of reasons, sometimes good sometimes contrived). There is also a bit of thematic friction in the story, with 'magical circuits' (how unicorn magic works in this story) existing alongside and sometimes merged with more magical sorts of magic. I found this grating at times and wish the author would just pick one of the other.

An excellent fic often overlooked due to the slow start in chapter one. But it rapidly escalates into something memorable and intense without loosing characterization to said intensity and updated pretty much once every week or 2.

Bridle Black by Nugar.

When Twilight Sparkle suggested they all go see the new racy movie that just came out of Canterlot, Dash was all for it. Now she and her friends have to sit through a horror movie that also has kissing and hugging and all kinds of weird stuff.

I, sadly, cannot agree. Nyx's characterization comes at the expense of other characters (Celestia/Luna) rather than give Nyx any flaws, the author chose to hand the idiot ball to established characters.

I will, however, second both Progress and Fallout: Equestria.

<a href='http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/06/story-world-of-ponycraft.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>World of Ponycraft</a> is complete at Chapter 12, though from what I gather at the end notes, the writer seems to indicate that side stories and a sequel might be in the planning stages.

<a href='http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/06/story-silent-ponyville.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Silent Ponyville</a> was surprisingly good. Best of all, while there is a rather prominent antagonist, it is NOT Pyramid Head. Despite the image, though, Fluttershy is not in the story.

Plus, for fans of multiple endings, this one has SIX. Two are rather short.
