Tempered in Water updated just a few minutes ago. May take a bit before it can actually be loaded up. Hoping for some good humor to make up for the long wait.

But I have laughed. Silly Naruto, finding out where they were by following the food... Always thinking with your stomache... :rofl:

Hmm... I just realized how easily amused I am... and it scares me...

That was a genius move, and should have recieved zero criticism from his teammates (or at least Sakura, who should have read about such ideas in strategy books. Naruto just thought of it on his own, though).

The thing I most like about the story is that everyone stays in character, WITHOUT resorting to cliches.

The one I hate the most is where "Naruto continues to be the idiot, and everyone views him as such, no matter what". This one... everyone's character is being established, and they STICK to it. It's great.

I'll admit it is well writen, but I won't be the first to say it is far from perfect. I personally think that there are 'some' cliches, but overall it stays away from the normal paths most would follow to make it easier. You can tell from the writing that the story has been rewritten a lot (The commander from the begining may have had a larger role at one point), and I personally think the Hikari thing was a little overused (In other fandoms at least, here it's actually a pretty new concept in Naruto despite it being so central to a Ninja's life).

However I do enjoy the changes made so that Sakura would actually take risks, but I think that such a large leap needs to be built up over several chapters. I guess it can be forgiven considering the length of this chapter, but I find such actions to be bandage solutions to character growth.

Also I wasn't particularly found of the author going into a description of their advancement in their training while the infiltration mission was still going on. I think it would have been better to have Sakura ponder it during her watch duty before she got curious about what they found.

Though it is nicely done, at least A-Rank writing material, it still has some flaws regarding the characters.

But at least the author didn't use the cliched Naruto wears a Mask routine that pisses me off. Nice and steady growth on his part. Very well done.

Another mistake. I don't recall anything remotely regarding a crush on Kurenai, unless the author is letting Anko jump to conclusions. Messed up that is...

However I guess my memory could be foggy with all the other fanfiction I read...

zOmg yay! I'm glad Naruto didn't go with Kurenai now, since she's with, ugh, canon pairing in this fic. I think I'm a little disappointed, if I remember correctly they had a nice buildup in previous chapters, however the end of this chapter has put that out of my mind. I am hoping the situation becomes permanent.

Which fic has ANBU Naruto lusting after Kurenai and I think Ino? It's either Cold Metal something or the fic by Harbringer something.

Nah. It was mentioned earlier. Akatsuki's freakout seems to be ineresting. How will Akatsuki deal with a Konoha that has the Sandaime and Jiraiya in it? Not to mention a Jinchuuriki who can fly. Deidara will not have fun with something like that.

Really? Was it a serious plot point, or just a few lines on it, then never mentioned again until now? Best I could tell was that he did care for her, but I never saw it going past a sister or mother. The only real scene I remember on the matter is Kurenai slapping the waiter. Then again I haven't read the rest of the story in a long time, so my memory is probably foggy...

Yes, it was mentioned. In particular, after the Forest of Death. It's also made overwhelmingly clear by then that Ino transfered her crush to Naruto. Not that Naruto notices. That's one element that Naruto has retained; he's utterly clueless about girls. That's hammered home in the latest chapter.

OH! That? Meh, I wouldn't call that explicit proof of a crush. Not only did he just wake up, but Kurenai does wear some rather exotic clothes. Normal boy horomones, not one of those personality attraction things. I see it as simply physical attraction, not crush related. Then again like I said before Anko could have had it wrong.

Eh, I'll just read it all again later. Mostly I'm just pissed about him taking shortcuts to power, and that's something that an author of his calibur shouldn't do, especially as poorly as he did it. But inconsistencies are also a no no, especially since it was comfirmed in Naruto's perspective.

I don't view it as a shortcut myself. He died, which awakened CS lvl 2. From the very start, it's been stated that Naruto had a very strange interaction with the CS.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but the side effects are all benifits. After he died, the pain when away totally, and the mind control aspect seemed null. There should be quite a few more dangerous effects to such a union, but most of them are just generic to the curse seal. It's like a freaking SS Level 3 transformation from DBZ.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. Seriously though when you mix multiple powers like that, there has to be a lot more disadvantages to it, especially since the Curse Seal pushes you past normal human limits. Add demonic chakra on top of that, which is already beyond normal human limits, and he'll fry himself alive. He should not have been able to wake up for a weak at least.
