Keep the honorifics, because by this point everyone knows what they mean, anyway. Try to avoid large amounts of Japanese and japanese references that people wouldn't get, though; if it needs to be heavily explained, it's probably bad, but this is a story set in Japan.

I concur, use honourifics, but avoid longer strings of words unless you think there's no decent English translation. Since you aren't a 13-year-old girl, I doubt you'd fall into the trap of using entire Japanese sentences :p

In the time it took me to shake off the enough of the pain to think straight, my attacker and my savior? moved me to one of the lounge couches. "Are you alright?" asked Mitsuru Kirijo.

I grimaced, both from the pain and a realization. My first time around I had been unfamiliar with the area.? This time, I knew the area around the dorm very well.? The difference in something as insignificant as knowing the fastest way to get somewhere was the difference between a slightly awkward first impression and getting pistol whipped.

And they say punctuality is a virtue.? Pfft.

Neither of the girls were making a sound, and I opened my eyes, having squeezed them shut unknowingly.? "Ow.? I mean, yes.? Ow."

"...I see.? Very well, could you answer a question for me?? Are you Minato Arisato?"

I poked the spot where Yukari had hit me and hissed.? I was going to have a goose egg there for a while.? "Yeah, I'm Minato.? Nice to... meet you, I guess?"? I had no idea how to act.? I knew them both, was friends with them both and dated one of them.? But as far as they knew I was a total stranger.

Obviously, I needed? time to go over how I was going to act, but that would need to wait.? I was tired, in pain and off-balance; not at all in good shape to think.

"Likewise.? I am Mitsuru Kirijo.? I'll be a senior this year.? This is Yukari Takeba. She'll be a junior this year, like you."? Turning my head slightly I caught Mitsuru-senpai's eyes, then turned my head and met Yukari's.? I nodded.? Mitsuru continued. "I'd like to apologize for the rude welcome.? Normally this sort of accident wouldn't happen, but given the circumstances, well... these things happen."? From my right eye I could just barely see Yukari's guilty expression morph to disbeliefùthere was no way anyone would ever buy such a weak excuse.? I didn't.

"Yeah, no problem," I muttered, pretending not to notice how Yukari's expression had gone from disbelieving to appalled.? What Yukari didn't know, that I did, was how much of Mitsuru's standoffish behavior was a result of naivety and a sheltered childhood.? Mitsuru was used to people accepting what she said, as the child of a very powerful and wealthy man, as the heiress to his company, as a young lady of great intelligence and beauty and as a very charismatic young woman.

"That's good."? She noticed my hand straying to touch the still-forming bump, and a note of concern entered her voice.? "I'm sorry, would you care for some painkillers? I should have asked sooner."

"That would be nice, yes."? I thought idly about getting some ice for my head as well, then felt my blood freeze.? "No water!"

Yukari blinked, and said her first word since she'd hit me.? "Wha...?"

Mitsuru got it.? "Yes, of course.? I believe that we have some dry caplets upstairs.? Takeba, would you mind getting them?? They should be in the restroom on the third floor."

Yukari had figured out why taking pills with water would be a bad idea, and from there realized why no ice was being provided to keep swelling down.? "Y-Yeah, I won't be long," she said, standing up and heading for the stairs.? Mitsuru waited for her feet to touch the first step before turning to me and speaking in an quiet, intense voice.

"I see you are familiar with the Dark Hour."? I froze.? Where had this come from?? "You show none of the symptoms of one newly awakened to it.? Moreover, you're familiar with the environmental hazards. Someone only recently exposed to the Dark Hour might forget about the water."

I shook my head, and ignored the resultant pain.? "Only needs to happen once.? I don't think anyone could forget turning a faucet and getting blood rather than water."

"True enough," Mitsuru agreed.? "If you don't mind me asking, how long exactly have you been exposed to the Dark Hour?"

I seriously considered how to answer. Then I realized that I had nothing to lose, so told the truth.? "About ten years I think."? I paused to think, then continued after her startled gasp.? "Not too sure really, since I had an early curfew.? Learned to sleep through it early on."? Remembering my role, I pretended to make a connection.? "You call it the Dark Hour?? That's better than my name for all this."

"Oh? What do you call it?"

"Shadow time."? Again Mitsuru stiffened.? "I think I was in the hospital when I came up with that."

"I... see.? Is there a reason that you call this time by that name?"

"Not really.? It's just, the shadows look really weird sometimes, like they're alive.? Like they're watching you."? Mitsuru's self control is commendable. If I hadn't seen her jump, I'd never have guessed that I'd startled her.

"Perhaps there's something to that," she murmured.? "Arisato-san, what would you think if I said... ah, Takeba.? Find the medicine?"

Sure enough, Yukari had returned just before Mitsuru could begin her S.E.E.S. recruitment spiel. I took the offered pills from her and swallowed them.? When I was done, Mitsuru helped me to my feet.? "Well, you've had a long trip. You've been assigned a room at the end of the second floor hall, on the right. Your things have already arrived and been moved."? I didn't bother correcting her about the bags; most of what I'd sent ahead were real necessities, like clothes. The stuff that wasn't here yet wasn't important.? With a wave of my hand I set off upstairs.

After dropping my bag onto the desk I collapsed onto the bed, only pausing to take off my socks.

What a day.

The Dark Hour ended as I closed my eyes, and I fell asleep listening to the muted sounds of the city? outside my window.
It's done.

It's DONE?! HOLY....

Anyway. One or two rounds of editing left. I'll do it tomorrow, and post a little side piece.

Night all!

I don't remember the water turning to blood.

Come to think of it, when did he get his first glimpse of the Dark Hour? He seemed fairly calm in the beginning of the game.

First cutscene in the game, the station clock has blood dripping down the front. Plus, the fountain at Paulownia Mall has its water transmuted to blood, and the water beneath Moonlight Bridge as well.

As for the Dark Hour... well, we know that Minato had his first Dark Hour when Death killed his parents. I suggest that in the hospital, the doctors dismissed his panic attacks about people turning into coffins and blood over everything as mental trauma and nightmares, and sedated him. He learned to sleep through the Dark Hour, and by the time P3 comes around he's basically decided that what he sees doesn't matter.

EDIT THOUGH I DOUBT ANYONE CARES: New chapter up really soon. I decided to end the chapter after the above for the sake of finally getting myself to move on.

New Game+ 3

AN: Surprise.

I woke up to someone pounding on my door, though it took me a moment to recognize it with the way my head was pounding. I sat up just as Yukari Takeba poked her head into my room. After reassuring herself that I did not sleep in the nude, she opened the door and entered.

ôMorning! Sorry to wake you up, but Mitsuru-senpai said that I should escort you on the way to schooùoh my God!ö

I blinked at the sudden shift in the event I remembered, then followed her gaze. I reached up to my temple and jerked back as the light touch sent a flash of pain through my head. Despite my precautions, the hit she'd given me had swelled up overnight, it seemed.

ôI'm so sorry!ö Yukari said guiltily. ôUm... listen, I actually have to be at school early for my club, so, if it's okay with you, I'm going to leave now, okay? Unless, you want me to wait?ö Obviously she needed time to stop feeling bad about hitting me. The smart thing to do was give the both of us time to get over the awkwardness caused by the incident and start again later, so I told her to go on ahead. She smiled in relief.

ôAlright, see you at school. Take the train to Port Island from the Iwatodai station. The school's right there, even though it's a bit of a walk. Hey, if you get there ten minutes before class starts, I'll help hide the bump, okay?ö She left with that, but came back a moment later. ôDon't be late!ö

I was, of course.

<><><><>

I'm late, I'm dead, I'm late, I'm dead, was my mantra as I rushed into the halls of Gekkoukan High School. Despite a year's worth of getting up on time for school and a pressing need to make a good impression on future Social Links, I'd fallen back asleep the minute Yukari had left. I knew the moment that I woke up that I was in trouble.

I'd had no choice but to run out the door in my clothes from last night, without breakfast and without unpacking my school supplies. Luckily, I knew from past experienceùhehùthat absolutely no schooling would happen on the first day of school, as all of out teachers were rotating through to introduce themselves and allow the students to get acquainted with their idiosyncrasies, perhaps the only nod anyone made to the fact that being a weirdo was a requirement to teach at Gekkoukan.

I managed to buy a breakfast bento at the station which I ate on the ride to school, but the stares that I got were a constant reminder that I was a student late for the first day of school. The moment the doors opened I was off across the plaza.

I was rushed up the steps to the second floor, stopping outside classroom 2-F stopping outside 2-F to catch my breath and decide how I was going to move forward. Obviously a transfer student who was two hours late on the first day of class was going to look bad no matter what. I couldn't blame anyone for my mistake since the only person I could blame was Yukari, which was bad in all sorts of ways.

My choice was plain: I had to make up a story as I went along.

ôWhat else is new?ö I asked philosophically, and opened the door.

ôAnd where have you been, Arisato?ö Snapped the irate Isako Toriumi, composition teacher. Twenty-seven pairs of eyes turned to face me, and I felt Yukari's murderous glare as if it were a physical thing. I felt a sudden shyness at being put on the spot.

If only I hadn't walked in on Ms. Toriumi! Most the teachers I could have bluffed my way past. If I could have talked samurai to Mr. Ono or magic to Mr. Edogawa I might have derailed the lecture long enough for the next period to come. There would still be the problem of my registered attendance but that I could deal with.

Mrs. Toriumi had none of those weaknesses. Worse, she was my homeroom teacher, meaning that any delinquency on the part of her class reflected on her.

ôWell? Takeba said you were awake when she left. Why are you three hours late?ö

ôTwo and a half,ö I corrected, then winced as her scowl intensified. I tried to think of anything I could say to appease her. My mind jumped to the bond we shared through the Hermit arcana she and I she and I had forged in the MMORPG ôInnocent Sin Onlineö the year before, but I realized that I had no right to know anything she and I had discussed online. Half-heartedly, I stretched my spiritual senses to try and feel any trace of the bond Maya and I had formed, but no trace of it existed.

Links of the heart have to go both ways. I knew that, but the reality hurt. The ôMayaö I knew was not the Isako Toriumi whose impatience was on a slow burn to real anger.

Well, actually, I knew enough about her to know that her favorite stories were true ones.

ôWould you believe me if I said I fell asleep?ö A gasp arose from the class at my carefree tone. ôYukari-san is trying to cover for me, but the truth is that I traveled across half of Japan, got in after midnight and just fell asleep as soon as I got hom--, er, to the dorm. She tried to wake me up this morning, but I just fell back asleep.ö

Yukari released her stare with a short intake of breath that went unnoticed by everyone else, focused as they were on me, her role in my crime exonerated.

Ms. Toriumi nodded, then asked in a deceptively mild voice, ôIn that case, where did the black-eye come from?ö

Black eye? My hand flew up to touch my eye socket, which sparked with sudden pain. Well. That explained the stares I'd received on my way here.

ôNow, I've taught Yukari-san before, and she's honest. I have to wonder what really happened. Did you get into a fight on the way to school?ö Just what I needed. Late the first day and made to look like a yankee on top. All my plans for pleasant first impressions gone just like that.

Fortunately, the path to escape was obvious. ôSensei, do you really think that I'm the type? Really?ö

She studied me for a long moment, then shook her head. She sounded surprised when she said, ôHonestly no. What did happen?ö

I winced. ôStupid accident.ö Yukari facepalmed.

She waited for a better explanation. When none was forthcoming, she shrugged. ôFine. Take the empty seat by Iori.ö When I started towards my seat the gossip engines started deciding my personality and background based on my rumpled appearance, my act of defiance and my "relationship" with Yukari. Before I could sit down to my well deserved rest, Ms. Toriumi spoke again. ôOh, and for being late I want an essay from you on the reasons for punctuality and a slice of cake. Two pages minimum. The paper, not the cake.ö

I sat down, and buried my head in my arms. I hadn't been back a full day and I could already tell that my life was going to be a goddamn mess.

Less than a year. Progress! More tomorrow. No, seriously.

I really hope your Minato becomes a space astronaut!Minato.

'Cause that would be awesome.

I mean, someone so strange that he would be fit to be the Doctor.

Or, you could make him into a pimp. I mean, just because he had a relationship the last time doesn't mean he has to make the same link again.

The fact that social links don't exist for him and he has to remake them, suggests that you at least want to leave yourself that option.

The writing style is something I have no complaints with, I would say. I like the opening line a lot tho.

*aside* mind if I steal it? :p

Interesting. A change already, he never went to school with Yukari, so no rumour mill about them dating starts up yet, gives Junpei a little less of a motive to talk to Minato. Conversely, being late to class means Toriumi never messed up with the file reading, gives a little ess of a connection, especially with him coming to school late.

Thats a potential conflict for the Lovers, female Magician, and Hermit social links. In one chapter snippit.

New Game+ 3/4

AN: I suppose this is the second sign of the Apocalypse. First was Hawk coming back to TFF, and now NG+ updates THREE DAYS IN A ROW. I suppose we're lucky that Duke Nukem Forever is coming out in June; it means we have a concrete day for the end.

Here's the first part of today's update; I might not be able to have the rest done tonight so I want you to have the scene that is complete. I'll edit the rest in later.

EDIT3: OH THANK GOD IT'S DONE. MOVING ON.

EDITWHARGARBL: Segment posted later in the thread.

Her fingers brushed against my temple lightly enough that the injury only hurt when she pressed to apply the mascara, and only for a fraction of a second.
Mascara goes on eyelashes and is generally black. You probably want what is imaginatively titled concealer.

Pretty cool so far. Oh time traveler smugness, what humorous mishaps will you cause next?

According to my mother, regular everyday powder makeup can conceal bruises pretty well if expertly applied, assuming your skin tone is close enough to it to not make it painfully obvious you have it on.

And before any of you misunderstand and jump to unfortunate conclusions, she had to use it that way after getting a nasty bruise on her forehead from conking it against the car's door in a moment of distraction.

Well I do remember an Italian friend telling me that the fastest way to get into the ICU is to insult an Italian's mother ;p :eek:t:

And I like your fic Wata! It has an excellent balance to it, with the MC slowly making changes without being overpowered.

Depends on where in Italy you do it. Do it in the south and you may well not survive to bemoan your stupidity. Southern Italy is infested with criminal organizations, and apparently even bad men love their mamas, if the amount of people killed for insulting a Mafioso's mother is any indication.

3/4 STILL and more to come. You'd think transcribing this stuff would be easier than writing it entirely from scratch.

YOU'D BE WRONG.

For those curious, this is a mash-up of three scenes from early in FES that show-off some of the characters doing their thing. I thought this made for a great metaphor, since NG+ really is the transfer from P3 to FES.

And yes, there will be P3P references where I can push them in. Don't hold out hope for MShe, she's Sir-Not-Appearing-In-This-Fic I'm afraid.

Last, who can spot the references?

You could always have the female MC 'appear' as dreams of some sort, or if you prefer, visions of what could have been and never was, just as a bone to throw to the more hardcore fans.

After all, the Persona series specializes in trippy shit, even more so than baseline SMT...

Oh, I'm well aware. Thing is, the existences of the male protagonist and the female protagonist are mutually exclusive, though it is interesting how Death assumes male form no matter what.

No, I have something regarding the better half planned, but I'm afraid it's completely not-canon to the fic.

HAHAHAHA YES AT LAST 3/4 IS COMPLEEEEETE. Last section is MUCH shorter; I'll put it up as part of the combined chapter with corrections.

Any guesses on what links are changing? Most should be obvious, and I know I've told some people.

Lastly, I'm trying to come up with unique intros and outros for every S Link, regardless of whether it's changing or not. The basic idea is to mention a little of the in-game mechanics of the Arcana and a little about the reading/metaphor of the card. Suggestions are very welcome.

Anyway, I'm off. Let me know if there's anything I need to fix. Later~

Huh...and I was just going to ask if the social links change and there you go doing so.

...Am I guessing that Saori Hasegawa of the Hermit Arcana being one of the possible changes? I think she's possible since you made Minato two hours late to school and thus have Ms. Toriumi pissed off at him. That and the fact that Minato couldn't feel a link between them anymore seals it.

Mmmm...Minato loses a member of his harem only to add another one on his list...

I'd probably try to stab you to death if Ken's becomes Justice (as I really like Chihiro) but I'm guessing that you practically planned on having the men (and dog) of SEES to replace Chihiro, Kazushi, Mamoru, Nozomi and Yuko's respective Links.

...Loses harem, but gains more bro's...and a dog...

...course for all I know you'll somehow bump a young Naoto as Fortune as she's doing a case and not Ryoji for the hell of it.

I'm pretty sure that 'feeling' a link is impossible until it first forms, no matter the timetravel shenanigans. What would he be looking FOR anyway? Ms. Toriumi more or less barely knew Minato existed and only developed her link with him over the Internet, so trying to feel around for a link that has no reason to exist just yet (and since Minato gave Fate a big fat middle finger, you can't even say it should be there already because it's fated to be) is an exercise in futility until he's estabilished first contact.

So far, the only 'familiarity' he seems to feel is because, well, it's his friends from before, but truthfully, he only rarely interacted with Toriumi on a real life basis, so it makes sense his link to her would be peculiar, as it was developed entirely over Internet.

That said, I again vote for making Igor a Social Link. and maybe that poor, misunderstood policeman who supplies you with weapons. :p
