Relating to some of the recent posts (though not GiftofLove's, as he seems to have the hang of it already):

Mike has a temper, or rather (since everyone has a temper, if you push them far enough), a temper that's worse than average.? He knows this, I know this, and you know this.? He does not react at all well to insults.? Again, we all know this.? He's getting better, but still needs to improve, and has been trying to.

Therefore, when attempting to give Mike constructive criticism, please phrase it in as non-insulting a manner as possible (you don't need to be obsequious, or even all that nice, just don't be rude), so that he can read what you have to say, and think clearly about it - also so that he and the rest of us can tell that your criticism is intended to be constructive, instead of destructive.
Please refer to trev's post at 3:20 PM for an answer. Also, so far as I am seeing, Mike is someone who likes to evade any sort of responsibility for his own behavior and actions, instead justifying his choices by flinging shit at others, not even trying to make an effort to see anyone else's point of view but only living in his own encased bubble world, that does not, to me, show any sort of improvement in the guy as a person. I have not known cherry before now, but if this is his best then a lot of people ARE right to be wary of a forum run by him.

That only works when both parties are willing to take the discussion on board, Charon.

I did that for, what, half a year? More to the point, you saw me do that, and you've seen the effect it had.

"Yeah, that sounds sensible, but why should I follow those arbitrary rules.

"Well, you would say that.á You're not capable of breaking the rules for the sake of great justice."

"Oh, but you're an asshole, Trev."
Frankly, I'm tired of the whole sorry business, so I'm going to remind Mike what my being an asshole looks like.

We're playing by TFF rules now, my droogies. Viddy it clearly with your glazzies and let it explode into your gulliver, then comport yourself accordingly. Perhaps this chelloveck will thank bog for the dobby days, before long.

Fuckin' heathen! You've never read A Clockwork Orange!

Amazing novel. All about a teenaged delinquent who gets into serious trouble and then gets into even more serious trouble, before trying to go back to his old life and finding that it just doesn't fit anymore.

Throws up all sorts of questions about choosing to do wrong versus being conditioned not to do wrong, and how that affects your own choice and volition, how people stop being ASBOs and start being adults, et cetera.

Written by a fellow called Anthony Burgess, about 50 years ago. If you're going to read stuff like 1984, Animal Farm, Brave New World? Read them first. Clockwork blows them all away - they seem heavy-handed and anodyne after Burgess' crazy little bastard Alex and his droogies. Make sure you get the 21-chapter version, though, as it has a point to make about growing up.

Or rent the film - Kubrick, McDowell, et cetera.

Mike, if you want to have some constructive criticism that you have a chance of accepting you should go somewhere else. Somewhere that no one knows you so you can start from scratch. Because you yourself, and your forum, are all based on bad history.

Well, yeah, this thread wasn't made for getting "constructive criticism", I didn't expect such a thing from the majority of people on here (although not everyone is as unreasonable as you and Trevelyan). It was made to advertise the forum (and not even by me...), and I never expected people like you to come over, because you have already made your mind up about me years ago, and no amount of changing will alter that.

Somewhere that no one knows you so you can start from scratch.
The problem is that no such place exists, at least that covers TM stuff in any significant depth. I would gladly go to places like BL and hide my identity (at least from most people) if doing so was possible, but I'm simply too recognisable. Even if I act differently, my opinions and knowledge would give me away. You don't get many Sakura fans with a BDSM fetish and a PhD in Astrophysics....

Because you yourself, and your forum, are all based on bad history.
What? That doesn't even make sense....

Unfortunately for you, a horrible reputation isn't something easily lived down. All you can realistically do is get someone else to advertise for you and pray that the people who do come to your forum don't pack up and leave once they find out you're there. Trying to convince others that you've changed works in real life because people can SEE it with their eyes, but online, where no such assurance exists, once an opinion is formed it'll take a minor miracle to change it.

That's how it is, and you'll have to deal with it.

It should be noted that dismissing everything you don't 'like' to hear as either lies or destructive criticism will usually act against the odds of a minor miracle taking place. And also that I had never met you before this nor cared for you and in fact started out trying to give you the benefit of the doubt until you yourself convinced me I was wrong.

Is this Cherry trying to bait me? It's as pathetic attempt as I'd expect, if so. I was perfectly reasonable to you for a number of months - you will never be able to say the same.

Oddly, it reads to me as Mike making a snarky comment about two people who have been conclusively identified (by me) as massive faggots.

Mike has been by FAR the more reasonable side in this discussion, which is pretty pathetic no matter how you look at it. I wash my hands of this thread, I tried to offer mike some actual help, but its been lost in amongst the waves of stupiditiy.

Im going to leave and pretend this thread doesnt exist anymore. So I don't have to keep wondering why, of the few people actually left in TFF, the biggest morons remain.

Bye.

I recall being just as reasonable to you as you were to me....

Well, I've tried to take your advice into account, but you're right that it's been somewhat lost in the piles of people going after me....

It would've been better if someone else handled the promotion of the forum. You do have a bit of a history in this particular fandom and it isn't helping your cause at all. That history has caused a large amount of bias against you which you admittedly seem to be trying to fix. That said, your participation in the discussions about your prior behavior didn't help at all. I think it would be best to let this thread die since the people who would be interested in your new forum would have likely seen it by now and your continued responses are simply doing more damage. That isn't to say that the behavior of the people arguing with you is any better, but its does seem like you're teetering on the edge of relapsing into the same habits you're trying to break.

Well, yeah, note who made this thread....

Unfortunately, though, everyone else involved with the forum is either busy or isn't bothered enough to advertise the forum, so it does tend to fall to me to do so a lot of the time.

Well, yeah, this is definitely true. This thread almost certainly isn't helping advertise the forum at all at this point.

Well, yeah.

It certainly doesn't help that I am very bitter about how I was treated on BL, which makes it very hard to avoid responding when someone asks about it.

Try something like 'Mistakes were made on both sides, strong opinions are still held, and I really don't want to clutter this thread with discussion of it. Let's go back to discussing things relevant to this thread, please.' That will work with nearly anyone who isn't bound and determined to be an arse.

Of course, if it's a thread devoted to discussing that subject (as opposed to this one, which really isn't), they're totally asking for it... You still shouldn't give it to them without first studying meditation or some other means of remaining calm, though, because what they're asking for is for you to lose your temper.

Well, honestly, the last time someone asked me about it on my forum (a guy who I know from elsewhere, but hadn't really talked to in a while), I just said I'd discuss it privately. Which is probably the best option at this point, in general, because everyone who cares probably already knows the details.

Well, if someone asks, I'll answer. But, I'm certainly going to be honest about it, and my honest opinion of Altima is extremely negative, which means that anything I say about him is going to come across as being insulting and abusive.

You know, I don't even know you, Cherry_Lover, nor do I care what happened.

But I am curious what you hope to accomplish?

You got banned. You lost. Period. Mourn in private because right now you are coming over as a sore loser and no one likes a sore loser.

People aren't going to make banners and fight for your 'cause'. VIVA LA REVOLUTION! Or are you hoping for a Vendetta response where we all create usernames like Cherry_Lover101 and march right up to the mods and dare them to ban us?

Perhaps you got 'provoked' here, but your buttons sure are easy to push. Hell, I barely manage to hold myself in from insulting Sakura JUST TO SEE THE SPECTACULAR BLOWUP THAT IS YOU! I hear it is an experience to die for...........

Wow, a lurker! Welcome to the forum, I hope you post more often! Without the ability for new members to join, lurkers like you starting to post is the only way to get fresh blood.
