Kletian, as you might remember, was the single most tricked-out human mage in the game. Vormav, Rof(e)l, and Kletian vs You is an actual battle, and pretty damn hard if you didn't know what to expect, and warranted the game letting you win as long as one of them got defeated.
'Total Rout' was probably overstating things. Izlude and Kletian are presumably dead, and both of them are at par with, or above the level of the 'generic' members. It's not even as if they were the ones that got the kills.
Vormav, in Zodiac form, is, for all intents, an Act Four final boss. The party right now is running around what would be Act Two or Three's timeline, so they would be less experienced than they later are. It's quite plausible that they simply aren't prepared to handle Vormav's Lucavi form.
A fight is a fight and quite frankly, I'm surprised that the main party(sans engineer) stays relatively unscathed, even with all the fighting and dying going on.
That said, I'll miss those two. I thought for sure that Vector would kick it first, what with the lack of development and all.
