The horrors of fiction!

Necroing a thread after 2yrs?

Why yes, yes I am!

Here's a pet peeve;

When you're ranting and stating reasons for why a lot of fics, save for a few in a entire fandom, even talking about your own work are average at best, but can be better.

Only for a big name fanfic writer and their worshipers to get all pissy on you...on tumblr....on tumblr...

Mind you, I didn't bring attention to any particular fics or writers, just making a general statement about Soul Eater fanfiction.

And hell, its fucking true! There's no real change or improvements I've seen minus a few fics for that fandom that doesn't look like all of it was written by overzealous high school girls; in the 5 fucking years I've been away!? It's like aside from one fic, you mean to tell me, in the five yrs from then to now, ya'll still writing the same stuff?

You mean to tell me, nobody can write a decent in-universe fic, every 6 out of 10 stories is STILL a high school/college AU? Nobody can be bothered with decent grammar?

And most of the summaries don't leave me intrigued to click the story.

I know, its rare, but I have come back to old fandoms to see an increase of new and better written material, it can happen.

I dunno, maybe its because I've been around here, whether active or in lurker status, that I know not to take generalized statements not directed at any one person to heart.

But save for one person who had some goddamn common sense on that site to ask me to explain what i mean; everybody got way too serious after their idol ranted at me with this passive aggressive post.
Which is bullshit, i responded back, they have yet to say anything back...i'm still waiting...

I'm 100% convinced that post was done just to start wank, other than that my post would've gone ignored like most of my rants on tumblr do.

People on that site are too much in their feelings. =_='

Well, since this time has been freshly revived...

How about lack of new ideas? I barely touch HP and Naruto anymore these days since it's the same wanking over and over with overpowering Harry/Naruto with nearly no new takes. I mean, look through our ideas sections and there's gold, but what gets put out instead is 98% dung.

That's what I mean!

It's like okay, I've read this plot a thousand times; five yrs later...nothing has changed...

I mean, if its written well, i might read it; whatever but come on...come on!

Authors who are unable or unwilling to change and improve even after years of writing.

Also, coming back to a fic years later only to realize you had on serios nostalgia goggles when thinking about it.

Either of those two really get to me.

When people bitch at you for not updating one of your worst written fics that hasn't seen the light of day for yrs.

>_>

when a person asks you personally for honest writing advice but snap at you for giving it.
=_=

Just recently obtained this aggravation.

When people can't read a (well-written) summary of a story well and misread/misinterpret it.

Or!

When someone gives dramatic and exaggerated suggestions to a story in a review when the author has already stated they have an outline done.

I hope I'm not the only one with this "issue."

The counter argument to this though is it may be 'well written' to one person, but it may not be as clear to others.

That is true. It's a little unfortunate the opposite has happened to me, though: others get it just fine except one. The summaries can be clearly written, stating what happens in the story, and some reviewer could be like, "Hey, what's that?!" I can understand legitimate confusion, though, like if English isn't their main language. That's fine.

Other than that, I don't know. It's just a bit irksome.

The issue rarely happens, however, when it happens, and it seems like the person isn't really clueless at all, that's annoying.

Anyway, I apologize if I'm typing nonsensically, trying to get my point across and failing. I'll just leave it there.
