Harry Potter The HP Fic Recommendation Thread

Darth Marrs' "Revenge of the Wizard" is complete, if anyone here was following it.

The next-to-last chapter was graced with the presence of, I think, the scariest possible version of Darth Sidious.

A librarian's job is never done . . . especially not at Hogwarts . . . and especially when a certain toadlike High Inquisitor is nosing around.

Seconded. Fine story, with a highly probable situation that might have happened had canon actually spent more time on Umbridge's rein of terror.

I could totally see umbridge ordering any books that Harry has read in the library to be burned.

I'm reminded of an episode of CSI, where a prisoner in Solitary (I think, I can't remember) used his own urine to write messages in the books he got from the prison library. Then other members of his gang in prison would check those books out to find the pages, rip them out, and use heat to make the messages appear.

"I must destroy these books, simply because that dreadful Potter boy is likely using them to pass along anti-Ministry messages to the other students!"

I've always liked Pince being shown as a woman not to be fucked with. McGonagall too.

Too bad Pince ultimately was shown to actually be hateful in canon by her supporting the Carrows.

Where did she do so? I don't recall any references to her in Book Seven. Did I miss one or have I just forgotten?

It's been so long since I read Book 7 I can't remember myself, but the wiki says she does. I assume it wouldn't be blatantly wrong.

Well, if I decide I care enough, it shouldn't be tough to find. Very little of the book took place in Hogwarts after all.

Perhaps it's a movie only thing because I can't find any mention of her in my digital copy.

Edit: Now that I think about it, it's probably one of those facts Rowling tacked on afterwards. Be it via an interview or Pottermore.

Haridan the Cautious
Summary: With all three of his opponents dead before the Third Task, Harry decides to take a novel approach to a dangerous situation facing him: caution. Incidentally, this will allow him to get a little bit of revenge on everyone at the same time. Plus, he really needs to finish his Potions essay.

Humorous lil' oneshot.

There May Be Some Collateral Damage by metisket
Summary: Ichigo’s been ordered to go undercover at a magic school to bodyguard a kid named Harry Potter, and this would be fine, except that he’s about as good at bodyguarding as he is at magic. And he considers it a good day, magic-wise, if he hasn’t set anything on fire.

From the author's note: 'I wrote this mostly because, despite the surprising number of Bleach/Harry Potter fics out there, none of them seem to address the fact that sending Ichigo to Hogwarts is basically the same as swinging a wrecking ball directly into the side of the castle.'

Some very funny moments in the first chapter alone.

x-posted in Bleach section

I said once before that I don't think soul reaper powers from Bleach are compatible with the Harry Potter soul physics, I guess we could call them, because in HP if your soul leaves your body you're dead. Well, if your soul is not anchored that is.

$0.01 because it may not be worth $0.02

It's mentioned in-story that Binns has some kind of spell keeping his soul chain from deteriorating.

Honestly, it's one of those stories where it's better to not think too hard about the differences between canons.

Bleach doesn't cross over well with a lot of things, because of power level/power type issues.

It's true for a lot of anime series.  The power scales there are all over the charts.  Most here in the West, it remains somewhat adaptable, or at least comparable for the most part.  There, you got everywhere between normal and blowing up the universe as an opening salvo.

Point in favor of the fic: power levels don't actually come into play here. It's mostly told from various perspectives: Ichigo's, Harry's, Ron's, Hermione's. And while Ichigo does leave his body, it's not actually to fight. The humor comes from Ichigo trying to adapt to Hogwarts and British culture/society, while doing his job.

You know, premise being goofy aside, this is a pretty entertaining fic. The banter and Ichigo's thoughts are hilarious.

During the Christmas holidays of his fifth year Harry realizes that he should do something to keep things from spinning completely out of his control. He proceeds to make new allies and embraces his more Slytherin side to make use of his considerable resources.

it's Haphne, but the real winner hear is the fact that finally, finally someone clues into the fact that the best way of ambushing Voldemort is to just make the Horcruxes pointless.

It's typical Chilord fare, but so far in this story he has managed to minimize the sameface-esque problems his dialogue usually has.

Normally about 70-80% of the fic will be the exact same style banter, back and forth amongst all the characters. Every character will speak in the exact same way, making the same sort of comments and taking turns in the few various roles of the convo, regardless of how unlikely it is for that character to act that way at the moment.

This story has toned that down, finally. The characters (Harry/Ron/Tracy) are all fairly distinct in their conversations, which on its own is more then Chilord usually bothers to deliver. Moreover, most of the story is NOT banter, which is nice.

The plot seems like it could go some good places, so heres hoping it gets updated before any of the other various stories.
