The Pokemon Topic

Yo! I'm also attempting to make it into New York on Thanksgiving Weekend in what will likely be a vain attempt at an Eon Ticket.

Does anyone know how that's supposed to work by the way? I'm not clear on whether or not you'll be able to get one of the Eon pokemon without it, primarily because the website has made a big deal about them and using them to catch Extra-generational legendaries. If there's an entire sub-mode of the game you can't access without an Eon Ticket it seems odd to restrict the distribution as they seem to.

I think the Eon Ticket is sharable and if my memory doesn't fail me that's how they wanted it to spread. Kinda dumb if you ask me, but Nintendo will do what they want to do. On a side note, save scumming event pokemon for perfect IV's is a pain in the ass, been working on this Diancie for the last few days on and off and the best i've gotten was a "rather superior" from the checker.

Edit: Just took a look at the Eon Ticket page, they say it'll spread through StreetPass....ok that is officially the second stupidest distribution method for countries outside Japan i've ever seen.

Especially when you consider the only way anyone can get it in the first place is either be one of the League Champs of some sort or get to the Nintendo Store in New York sometime in the next month. I expect eventually they'll spread it more if only because they've been promoting the whole Fly Around and Catch Other Legendaries mode, and you can't do that without an Eon Pokemon.

Can't you set your 3DS to the precise time and date for that? Course this kind of headache is why I never tried to be competitive with any of the games.

And what's the stupidest you've ever seen for distribution then? Because StreetPass is not at all a reliable way to get anything in a nation as big as America.

The number 1 stupidest distribution method i've seen, not experienced mind you, was the Japanese Celebi distribution for pokemon crystal. It involved the Pokemon Mobile System GB, damn thing needed a cellphone and connector to link up with a GB color.

Let's hear it for Omicron and Zeta.

I'll just leave this here.

Looks like being in the UK is gonna pay off for me then. The Eon ticket's going to be available in selected GAME stores on the 29th, or a little later.

I happen to have a friend working in one of those selected stores, so I have easy access to the thing.

Well...I have Sapphire and I'll say, the DexNav is pretty cool. Only have my first gym badge and I just caught a lvl 18 Taillow who knows Boomburst. Damn...

Can such luck be passed onto us?

Only if you find a way to Streetpass him. Sadly it appears In Person is the only way to go at the moment.

Drats, oh well...I can hope for a US event...

At the moment, the means by which the Eon Ticket is being distributed is as follows: Download code from CoroCoro magazine, Streetpass someone who has it, be a pokemon League Trainer, go to the Pokemon Store in New York. I'm going to Long Island for Thanksgiving, but the Nintendo store has been delayed in getting it so who knows what's going to happen.

Unfortunately, I live in the midwest, so most of that isn't working out for me...

At least you have the game. It's not released over here until Friday.

I've been busting my butt doing three things the last week.

The first was getting my Passport sorted out because I'm going to be flying to Greece in a few days. That was stressful.

The second was meeting with my book Agent in Singapore to discuss Illustrator shortlists. This was also stressful.

The third was pooling all my resources to buy Alpha Sapphire for myself, two Omega Ruby copies and three of Alpha Sapphire for my cousins. So far, I'm enjoying the experience. Alpha Sapphire's formulaic, but I kinda miss the avatar customization.

Anyone wanna hit me up on this bad boy?

You sure there's not a way to customize the avatar? i just figured I'd have to wait until later in the game.

Oh, hey, since I've actually started playing finally I've got a question for the thread.

The DexNav ap, the thing that lets you get high IV value pokemon that might have the hidden ability or weird egg moves, does anyone know how it scales past say... level 10?

Every time you see a pokemon the level for that pokemon goes up by 1 and the higher the level the better odds for hidden abilities, weird Egg Moves, or high stats, but I'm not sure how it scales. I know that by around level 10 you've unlocked the IV value, First Move (which may be an Egg Move), and everything else, but I'm not sure how it works past that.

At level 40 for a Ralts I managed to get a Max IV Ralts with Grudge, but I'm not sure what happens at what level.

No idea myself, I got my boomburst Taillow at lvl 3, but I haven't seen much at that level with others yet

I'm doing a special self-made challenge for Alpha Sapphire. I'm calling it "All The World On One Pokemon".

Basically, my challenge is to pick a Pokemon before the first (actual) gym challenge. This is the only pokemon I get to use against Trainers, barring Double, Triple and Rotation battles (and even in those, he will HAVE to be in the battle, even if he's not the only one in it).

Wild pokemon aren't part of the challenge, so I'm free to swap him out for those. This is so I can complete my in-game dex and not have to try and figure out how to reset to play normally. He also isn't required to be my sole pokemon for things like HMs, so I can have my HM slaves pick up what I don't want/need on him.

At first glance, this doesn't look to be nearly as difficult as, say, a Nuzlocke (edit: at least not the traditional ones I've seen); but at the same time, not going to be easy by any stretch. I can't switch out my Lotad/Lombre/Ludicolo, which means if he gets confused or something, I can't simply toss into another pokemon to tank while I cure him.

The pokemon I've ended up choosing? Lotad.

It kinda surprised me. I usually use Exp Share to level Lotad into Lombre, toss a water stone on him, then tuck him away into a box. It's terrible in retrospect, I know, but he never fit into my usual team comps.

But he's surprisingly useful for this challenge.
He's resistant to Steel, Ground and Water; he's only weak to Flying, Bug and Poison; and he takes normal damage from everything else.
His natural move pool blows hard, but that's what TMs are there to correct. My plan is to give him Strength (Normal - Atk 80), Energy Ball (Grass - S.Atk 90), Ice Beam (Ice type - S.Atk 90), and Surf (Water type - S.Atk 90) to give him elemental width. With that setup, there is literally NOTHING he cannot do at least 1x damage to.

Although, I'm somewhat tempted to instead keep Nature Power instead putting Strength on him for some semi-randomized elemental damage.

Nature Power is pretty cool, I'm leaving it on my FIRST SHINY POKEMON EVER SINCE BLUE Shiftry and it's fun. Given you're using him mostly for Trainer Fights it'd probably be Tri Attack a lot, which I think is stronger than Strength?

Also, apologies if this is a spoiler I'll take off the tags if people think it wise,
but you get Latios or Latias during the course of the regular game which means hey, everybody can catch those mirage legendaries!

Can I just reiterate that I really, really like the dex nav, now that my Mightyena has Thief? Makes getting some rarer held items almost too damn easy (I have like a half dozen Focus Bands after running into some Machops)

Dex Nav is fantastic yes, high evs, fancy abilities, Egg moves, I think it even does that Shiny Chain thing... though if so I'm not sure how.

I'll also add there are some little touches I like, like the fact that you occasionally see flying types in the air around you, kinda adds to the feel of the environment.
