I kind of expected a dip in quality now that he's gone. He supposedly left enough material for several seasons, but without his expertise the animation is likely to suffer a bit until they can find someone who can step up and take over. If they even can.
I haven't actually watched anything about S3 yet. I'll probably do the same thing I did with S2 and let several episodes build up before I get into the new season so I can spend an evening watching it.
From what I've heard about it, the animation took a bit of a dip, the story is meh, but the music is great.

Fight scenes had some bad and some good. Animation was better, on occasion I wondered why some member of a team wasn't doing anything.
Voice acting mixed. Emerald I wanted to just stop talking, Ruby at the start was good (though I do not think that her mouth was in sync with those words). Can't say if Ren's new VA was better or worse since he never said much with Monty speaking previously.
So far no mention of Yang's meeting with her mom in that dream/whatever.

Just started watching RWBY, and finished the first season. Damn, it's short. Don't quite think it deserves all the praise heaped upon it, but it's good. Enough that I didn't regret the time I spent watching it. So far, I think my favorite characters are Yang and Jaune. Yang because of her devil-may-care attitude combined with her obvious care for her sister (a relationship all too overlooked or turned into stupid sibling rivalry) and Jaune because he's pretty much an ordinary everydude that is way out of his depth but doing his best to step up (after a bit of character development).
Sun, despite his short screentime, is also pretty cool. Can't beat a gun bo-staff that can separate into gunchucks. Also, what the fuck is Penny? That opening on her back holding the swords and her crazy strength is not normal, even in crazy awesome RWBY.
