Transition issues (just a place to report them)

Occasionally when I refresh the View Today's Posts page I get an error message: "An invalid search was specified. Please go back and try again." I have to go back up and click on View Today's Posts again to fix it.
I know I get something like that with the view new posts, but only when everything that can be viewed has been, or if the mark all read has been selected... For me, that generates:

Sorry, but no results were returned using the query information you provided. Please redefine your search terms and try again.

chrnno here. Had some trouble first logging in and then after making this one managed to log in(no idea what I was doing wrong) so can they be merged please? Thanks for the trouble.

I'll probably pass on merging them if you managed to get your old one to work- there's nothing on that account but that single post.

It causes a lot of strain on the database to merge accounts, and if it can't get a lock on the account then both end up deleted, as like what happened to lord raine.

I see, then if it is easy to do delete it. The only reason I asked was because I already set up the e-mail but I replaced it with another so I could leave my main with this one. Thanks for the quick answer. :D

Somebody went and borked the lemon section. I can see no threads in the sections.

Fixed. It decided to inherit the parent forum's permissions for some reason when I removed the ability to delete posts... which allowed you to not do anything.

Just wondering, why can't we delete our own posts?

Shirotsume

Not The Goddamn @dmin
Because we've had several instances in the past where people deleted their content out of a hissy fit, or to change the frame of a discussion in a manner more advantageous to them. We've also had people delete their thread-starting post, which deletes hundreds or thousands of other people's posts and a lot of general content from TFF.

You could argue that Hawk never intended for this site to be an archive, but frankly, TFF as a whole has pretty handily always ignored that, and what Hawk wants anymore is irrelevant.

Understandable. I'll miss the feature, seeing as how I never abused it, but its understandable.

I would prefer to have it as well, so I feel you :p

Is people deleting the content of their posts the reason a bunch are blank in the earlier pages of the Daily Thing thread? Notices it the other day.

Could you give me a link?

The accursed "The specified thread does not exist." bug has been tormenting me quite a lot today.

Very strange... all the ones I saw when in those early posts of that thread before that were blank are all back... could this have been a side effect of the Restricted section issues?

No, I had that happen to me as well. It was a problem with "highlight" in the url. Refer to post #109 and #111 in this thread, as well as the responses following.

I've turned HTML in posts off- it was causing far more problems than it solved.

One possible solution is to use the myCode function to create a code for <a href>- unfortunately, the admin CP strips out <> tags, so I'm going to have to ask spork if there's a way around that.

If not, the next option is to temporarily take the forum down and run a search/replace on all of our posts to turn <>s into []s. And perhaps also any broken characters into fixed ones. That's a last resort though, as that kind of thing would positively pound the servers.

Pity, because I used that for a widget in one of the polls I ran earlier. Can I ask what problems it was causing?

Well, it was causing formatting problems, because it auto-removed anything in between tags.

And two, I found out your could use iframes. And that shit isn't flying.

Depending just how much that functionality would allow, I would also be worried about potential security holes such could allow... such as redirects, advertising, and very unexpected behavior...

Having the specified thread doesn't exist bug as well. Here's the link at current: http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=70&page=436

From the looks of things it happens when the thread's trying to make a new page but there's no posts to make said new page with, for whatever reason.

I *think* I just fixed the "thread does not exist" bug... without killing everyone's post count!

Can you share the technical details of the solution? I'm curious.
