The 'at this point' remark also implies that you plan to correct the issue for him, at some point. If it's a problem with his coils that is making it so he can't see the Shinigami, and eventually he will be able to see them... then that means he's going to fix the coil problem?
If so, then cue the people bitching about Rock Lee being able to use ninjutsu and genjutsu, because they prefer him the way he is.
Even if Lee got his coils fixed, he's been working hard at being the best with just taijutsu. It's like a way of life to him. You assume that just because he can, he WOULD use nin and genjutsu.
But take Maito Gai, his teacher. He CAN use ninjutsu and genjutsu, but CHOOSES not to, because he specialized in taijutsu to an extreme. Why can't Lee make the same choice? He's already progressed so far in his field. It makes no sense to divert attention and effort from it to (slowly) start learning the very basics of the rest.
I can see Lee learning Kawarimi and the Kai dispelling jutsu, so that genjutsu doesn't fuck him up, but I don't see him learning anything else willingly.
Erm... I'm not assuming anything. You're putting words into my mouth, here.
I didn't say that
I would have a problem with it, nor did I say anything about him
learning them. I specifically said
cue the people bitching about Rock Lee being able to use ninjutsu and genjutsu, because they prefer him the way he is. Whether or not he learns any never even came into it, until
you brought it up.
And If he did run at them full-tilt, I'd consider that about as OOC for him as it gets. He wants to prove he can be a great ninja with taijutsu... and that'd be kinda hard if he goes nijutsu or genjutsu crazy.
We agree on that.
I also agree that he'd learn Kawarimi and Kai (stabbing yourself in the leg to dispel a genjutsu has to get old after the third or fourth time), and probably Henge and Bunshin, too. The basics of the academy seem like the bare minimum...
Probably the shunshin, too... not that he'd need it all that often, considering how fast he is. But if it does make you faster, as so many people seem to believe, then it could be a valuable tool... but that's really neither here nor there.
And I can't see Gai not giving him access to his summoning contract, either.
On the other hand, it wouldn't make sense for him not to pick up some genjutsu or ninjutsu if he gained the capability. Whether or not he sticks to taijutsu most of the time, having
some genjutsu or ninjutsu in case of emergencies just seems like a good idea.
Gai may prefer taijutsu, but he has a few ninjutsu and genjutsu under his belt (Kai, Summons, and whatever else gets you to a ninjutsu and genjutsu score of three each).
I don't have a problem with any of the above. Hell, I think I'd actually like to see Lee bitchslap Sasuke with nothing but the basics of ninjutsu and low level taijutsu... it just makes me want to smile.
I'm specifically pointing this out because I have seen stories majorly flamed on FFN for specifically this reason. Some people just can't
stand the idea of Lee not having his disability... whether or not he runs off and starts trying to become a ninjutsu or gejutsu master doesn't even enter into it. Just the fact that he
can pisses them off... :\
If SR wants to keep the issue of ninjutsu and genjutsu out of it (IE not change Lee so that he can use them), and for some reason is set on him not being able to see spirit entities yet, then the best way is to have the coils be the reason for his disability and a deficit of spirit energy in his chakra as the reason he can't see spirit entities.
Just a suggestion to try to clear up a point that, right now, doesn't make any sense.
And next time, please, don't try to put words into my mouth...
