Speaking of which, can anyone tell me why Japan is still over water in a post Second Impact world? Is there an actual logical reason for it, or is it simply "this is an anime, therefore Japan is the center of the world"?
Oh easy. Let the actual scientist field this question.
The truth of the matter is that most of the islands that are in danger of being flooded by global warming are low elevation, tropical reef islands that are already near sea level. Japan would be largely spared because of its large relief compared to the rest of the Pacific Islands. Being a volcanic chain does have some benefits.
And before you try to argue with me on this, realize that I have an RL degree in Geology.
