HOW ABOUT THAT NEW CHAPTER

...*sigh* In the context of everything they have gone through to keep their relationship, that really makes no god damn sense. If she truly didn't care about him; then Keiichi would have died as far back as the World Destruction Program arc. In context, she didn't bring it up because it would bring conflict to her relationship with him. She would rather fix it, as SHE JUST DID, and leave the matter at that. Hell, even in that chapter, her decision to defy the laws of her people for the sake of the fix also makes that idea seem really stupid.

EDIT: Yes, and that is why she never brings it up. Even early on, he had already made the wish to have her by his side forever which he had been told was going to be enforced by a power that could override the gods.

I'm not saying she didn't care for him at all. I'm saying she didn't care at first. That's expected. Understandable.

But, why did she not tell him along the way when she DID start caring? Because of possible strife? Really? Live a lie for years just to avoid a possible breakup? How selfish is that? Yes, the fact that she likes to be pampered already tells us she's selfish, that's obvious, and humanizing. But, it's like getting married THEN telling your significant other that you're sterile. Yes, you care about the other person, but you're also incredibly selfish in doing so and using that love as a trap. How real is the love if you're willing to do that to them?

HOW ABOUT THAT NEW CHAPTER

The price of getting the perfect waifu?
not get to hit that with the wrath of an angry n-th dimensional supreme being!

The problem here is Bell is "pretty much perfect in all ways" (move over Mary Poppins!) thanks to Mary Sue plot armor and ALWAYS plays by the rules like any good Girl Scout. It's one of the biggest reasons why she's been known to be Heaven's darling and one of their highest ranked Non Combat Goddesses out there. Urd is one rank lower, just because she likes to be able to play dirty and or bend/break rules in case it's needed (she declined an ascension to 1st class to be able protect her sisters and not because she's technically half demon or was uncapable).

As for the wish, I blame the designers of the wish system; they put in the laws to (as many have said before) make sure nothing "bad" happens to their representative (in this case Bell). The way the newest wish works, seems more Ye Olde School of Wish Fullfilment (you know like every OTHER improperly planned pantheon) where the gods go up to a mortal and make a direct connection, with no safeguards and many more benefits (at least I hope it is, for K1's sake). Maybe with this new "setup" she actually wants/expects him to carry her over shoulder, smack her ass and drag her off to some somewhat private place and git'er dun!

The huge an overlying issue here is... DRAMA!!! Hild pointed out the red herrings in the system, Kei is in DESPAIR ? because his perfect quasi-waifu had unwittingly neutered him (toward her) from day one; and by now he is manly/confident enough to hit on most attractive non goddess women in the greater nekomi area and at least get a phone number and if not get his groove on. But he is so deeply in love (or at least greatly infatuated) with Bell that he will not stray.

I think only Kami KNOWS just how blue the poor gear monkey's balls are after 4 years of dealing with all the shit they (heaven and hell) have thrown at him and still come up (modestly) winning; let alone all the other goddesses, demonesses and smoking hawt chix that have rubbed up on him and at most gotten him to nosebleed faint.

ftfy
And that was YEARS ago, both in canon time and outside in reader time.

But yeah, this new spanner in the gears opened up a new bag of plot holes that the fandom had conveniently put a tarp over and ignored for their own sanity (and love of Bell).

One possible explanation for why Bell didn't talk about it: Protection spells. It's possible for Yggdrasil to implant spells in Gods/Goddesses that render them incapable of discussing certain matters. When it was brought up in regards to certain details of Urd's partially demonic nature, Bell was barely capable of nodding or shaking her head to answer direct questions about it. When she tried to discuss it directly, she literally could not open her mouth.

If this was the case, none of the Goddesses could have told Keichii unless he directly asked them a question associated with the matter, and he wouldn't have known to ask.

Of course, this leaves the question of why none of the Demons in the series didn't try to tell him just to stir things up.

/a/ has already posted the raws.

Skuld does call her mother. However, outside of bantering and scuffle by Hild and Anzus (I think thats how her name will come out) nothing much comes to for outside of Bell shielding Keiichi. The chapter ends with Anzus turning her attention to them.

I had thought of that too, but I had discounted it for two reasons.
1) it's a copout explanation. Why would they need to keep that secret? To keep the poor sod's hopes up? That's a little harsh for a divine directive. Why not tell them up front and let them make an informed decision? Yes, I know, more drama.
2) The one that suffers just as much if not more in this is the goddess. If she's forced to not tell her loved one, yet live with the lie and the day to day knowledge that if/when it's found out, it will be so much worse, then I would feel bad for the Goddess and is not a situation in which you'd have good 'employee retention' in the relief office. Indentured servitude without the hope for lasting true love or to be genuinely desired (aka lusted after. It reaffirms our self image that we are in fact desirable and worthy of attention), what a great job description. If it's never found out, she walks away when he dies knowing it was never a full relationship, missing out on great parts of the total experience for all those years. That's harsh for her; the kind of thing that leaves one scarred or jaded.

Because let's face it,? if you had a really hot girlfriend/fiancee that you were head over heels for, birds are singing and the world is right, and suddenly she told you, "hey, the price for being with me is the nullification of any carnal desires for me for the rest of your life."
. . . I realize that I may be talking to the wrong people here, but that doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. As the Buddhists say, desire and ignorance are the causes of suffering; if one was willingly given the chance to gain knowledge and end desire, it seems to be a rather good idea, IMHO.

It grates me more that she didn't tell him rather than the actual circumstances involved. If she'd just told him from the start, and he'd accepted those terms, it wouldn't have mattered as much. The issue here is that K1 was never given the chance to make the choice himself and was intentionally kept in the dark about a very important technicality of the contract.

Granted, the manga wouldn't be as entertaining without the drama and comedy brought on by K1's active sex drive. Or perhaps not, seeing as he shouldn't have had one (towards Bell at any rate) since the contract started.

What the new chapter showed, Wasn't much. Issue isn't resolved so people wondering/fearing it would get all resolved in one chapter, need not worry. Since that is being held till, at least next chapter. However, it's clear this isn't something that K1 passes off either with his reaction. This chapter is pretty much all about introducing the new character to us. That's about it. The elephant in the room, is left till next chapter. At the very least.

Spiffy.

Oh, one more thing, people calling Belldandy a slut (pointed at no one in particular to this thread. but the AMG discussion in general. Here, /a/, anyplace else where it is talked about)... that implies she's been having sex everywhere. There is no indication she's been doing that. "But Simmy, there is no indication she hasn't~" Yes, and I have no concrete evidence she hasn't either. I.e in a previous contract, gotten someone that wanted sex. But evidence, or lack there of, goes both ways. And I'm inclined to believe she hasn't if only because Fujishima would cause the Otakus to burn Japan to the ground if that happened.

At most, you could say she's a bitch. :p But that is debatable since her actions... is what everyone and their grandmother is talking about at the moment. What her words meant, how much weight we should put into it, what her true feelings where, etc. etc. etc. I have my own thoughts on it, but well, barring a new chapter (not this one since I've mentioned it only sets up the next chapter. Good job delaying it Fujishima), it's all speculation anyways that usually leads to circular arguments.

It failed as a troll topic because it actually had a point, and showed us a surprising plot twist. If this was just put in an update thread instead of a whole new thread, it would probably have been ignored.

It's been out for a few days now. And yeah, really poorly translated. So, apparently Belldandy's mom is her husband's second wife? And she's been assigned to them as an Interspecies Romance Officer, or something?

We've known she was the second wife, as Urd is the oldest and the three share the same father.

HOW ABOUT THAT NEW CHAPTER

Hmmmm.... she's definitely a bitch, but I don't consider her to be one to the degree that most people are thinking.

What a lot of people are forgetting is that there's another factor at work: The fucking contract.

You know, the one even KAMI-SAMA allowed to be renewed after that whole "super string" arc?

The same contract that's been both fucking them over and saving their relationship multiple times, sometimes within the same day?

Yeah.

I think poor Belldandy's as much of a victim as K1. In fact, they both may be in more trouble than we realize because of that stupid thing.

Think about it: K1's wish is incredibly limited and stupid. Depending on the translation, IIRC it's either "I want you to be my GIRLFRIEND FOREVER." or "I want you to be with me forever."

Using the first interpretation, there've already been theories that their relationship is literally both started and stalled because of the contract because of the wording. They were now dating, but because of the poorly defined and malleable word "Girlfriend" and the strict word of "Forever", they might not be able to progress or stop, creating a bizarre stalemate.

In fact, there's a possibility that Peorth might've been sent as a means to resolve the issue when K1 was supposed to get a second wish, but the original contract fucked things up by having him not want more. Hell, most of the issues might've been subtle ways of either ending the contract or getting K1 and Bell further along.

In fact, if you look at it in the right way, Hild might even be there explicitly on the couple's behalf.

Because I don't know about you, but being eternally locked into a relationship that can't progress OR end would be nightmarish; to the point the either option would be awesome.

In fact, there is one blindingly obvious solution that I'm surprised hasn't passed through everyone's mind: If a pairing between species, like mortal and goddess, is forbidden... just make the mortal a god.

And even the latter interpretation of K1"s wish suggests issues of its own, "I want you to be with me forever."

....actually, that interpretation kinda leads me to think that godhood is essentially K1's future. That or it's going to turn into a long reincarnation tale where Belldandy keeps getting K1's reincarnations and they keep wishing the same thing....
Except that would be stupid and would probably break the "forever" part of the contract.

Well, I'm calling it: Keiichi Morisato is going to become a god (or an immortal that qualifies).

People have been calling that since day 35. The only reason they haven't been calling it since day one is that many people missed this comic at the start due to the slow start in the story.

I do believe that this arc has only three possible outcomes:

1) The new character (with whatever title she decides she carries) breaks apart the couple and the two fight to get back together. (After K1 takes some time to do some soul searching and "realizes" Bell is the only one for him)

2) The new character decides to keep the couple together but K1 decides that maybe Bell isn't the one and Bell has to convince him to stay (soul searching included)

3) The are allowed to stay and the couple decides to stay together, with extra chapter dedicated to watching K1 handle his hormonal rebalancing.

I actually like option 2, because it will show more characterization from Bell, especially with the new info about the seal and all. Though you could count on Urd and Skuld adding thier voices.

Well, it appears that, on the surface at least, it isn't much of an issue. Since at least in 287, it's been passed off as a 'misunderstand.' I'm still debating if I should be disappointed about it (since I prefer, at least some more soul searching before coming to that conclusion). But that's to be determined since, that's what it looks like on the surface. They're about to go through the first gate of judgement. And then things could get interesting.

As for the new goddess's name? The 'proper' translator called her Aesir which is a category of gods/goddesses. However, others (myself included) is that her name is Ansuz since, Fujishima has been known to name goddesses as runes. Well, until Fujishima comes out with a romanji of what he intended, could be either.

5) Nothing happens and everything goes back to the ways be for.

Which should had not been that much of a surprise since its the only outcome that he been using for the last 20 years.

P.S.
F@UK YOU! Fujishima for making care about AMG for the first time in over 12 years and bring my hop up for something interesting to happen but only to have it crash and burn to the ground.
