Except for the fact Ichigo actually became a hollow. on page 55 of Volume 8, in the top left panel, Ichigo was shown with a complete mask that showed the odd style eyes hollows have, a slightly open mouth, and a hollow's hole.
Simply because Ichigo exerted his dominance and supressed Hollow Ichigo, even unintentionally, did the regular Ichigo continue to exist, as it showed that Ichigo was a hollow. That is the only reason hollow Ichigo exists, as Ichigo was a hollow.
Edit: and being that Hollow Ichigo is a part of Ichigo, was eventually able to grow strong enough thanks to the Bankai training, and become dominant over Zangetsu and become Zangetsu. When they first met, Zangetsu supplied two swords, the asauchi (the one given to Shinigami not worthy of becoming part of the 13 court guard), and Zangetsu. Hollow Ichigo emerged and grabbed the falling blade, that was still regular colored, which is soon returned to Ichigo. Hollow Ichigo had no sword on his own.
However, when they next met, Hollow Ichigo had become dominant, and had his own blade, a reverse colored Zangetsu. Showing that he had becom Zangetsu as before the 'old man Zangetsu' was always seen standing on his Bankai form zanpakuto.
At least in my opinion anyway.

Just finished watching the SS arc and a rather twisted idea came to mind...
What if Matsumoto wasn't able to get away in time from Gin when the menos came and 'rescued' Gin, Tosen, and Aizen and she was trapped in the Negacion; forcing her into Hueco Mundo with the three traitors?

Really? Gin actually looked disapointed that she didn't come along for the ride. I'm thinking of something different might happen. Aizen used the Hgyoku on hollows to create his Espada...what's to stop him from using it on a shinigami? I mean, he wouldn't be stupid to try it on one of his loyal minions (Gin and Tosen) without knowing what it would do; but if he just happened to have a a 'spare' shinigami around to use it on...

Zangetsu and Hollow!Ichigo are both parts of Ichigo's inner power. Before Ichigo regained his Shinigami power, we saw Zangetsu once: While Ichigo's inner world was falling appart.
After he regained his Shinigami powers, Ichigo's power became a mix of Shinigami and Hollow power: Zangetsu and Hollow!Ichigo, respectively. When Ichigo is in control, Zangetsu is dominant in his mindscape, and Hollow!Ichigo is otherwise dominant.
Hollow!Ichigo tells Ichigo he is Zangetsu and Zangetsu is him, since both are Ichigo's power. It's like your pants telling you that it and your shirt are both your clothing.

For some reason, I feel like doing some whacked up time travel shit and placing Ichigo as the saviour of Hinamori, Renji, Shuuhei and Kira when they are swarmed by hollows (refer: Bleach episode 46 I believe).
I'll even toss out a little snippet (because I'm a good boy):

And the fact that Hisagi-sempai's communicator to Soul Society got busted... well, it only means one thing: they were going to be hollow food.
"I don't want to die..."
A part of him wondered why he didn't obey Hisagi-sempai's orders to flee in the first place. Damn Abarai-kun for convincing him to go back!! And Hinamori-kun didn't even bother putting up a better resistance too...
"I don't want to die..."
So much for his dreams of getting a division placement before he got out of the Academy.
"I DON'T WANT TO-" Kira's voice froze when he felt a huge amount of spiritual pressure flood the area. 'This reiatsu... ! Did Soul Society send a Captain to help us?!' He couldn't give it too much thought because his body was forced against the ground due to the spirit power this individual was leaking.
He couldn't see anything and all he could hear were the battle cries of a young man and a zanpakuto slicing through all the Hollows like they were nothing. The fight only lasted for a minute and then there was silence.
Footsteps were approaching the group of four. Then an annoyed voice rang out. "Oi... I save your asses and this is the thanks I get?"
"Y-your... power..." squeaked out Hinamori.
"Hm...? Oh, right! Just like that time Kenpachi... my bad." The spirit pressure dropped to allow the group to breathe easier and to get up from the ground. In front of Kira stood a man with orange hair, Shinigami robes and a large... 'cleaver' for lack of a better term in his right hand. The youth then zeroed in on one member of their group. "Renji? What the hell happened to you and when did you get so scrawny?"
"Scrawny?! I'll have you know that my sensei considers me one of the physically strongest students of our class..." He then paused since he recognized it wasn't a good idea to shoot his mouth off in front of his saviour. "... sir"
The minute that Abarai Renji said that word, Kurosaki Ichigo realized that there was something very wrong with this picture. 'Note to self: kick Sandal-hat's ass for trying that weird ass kido on me...'

No no no...that's actually pretty funny, and I can so see it being all Uruhara's fault. Either his directly trying out some new kido on Ichigo, or him tricking Ichigo into trying a new one out himself. And Renji, at any point just meekly refering to Ichigo as sir.... :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

I haven't really thought that far ahead but I would probably want Ichigo to be at the level of power just before he leaves for Hueco Mundo (so holding the Hollow Mask for 11 seconds).
I may have Urahara-taichou and Yoruichi recently disappearing and have yet to set up the Urahara Shop. Should definitely give Ichigo something extra to worry about and would give an excuse not to return to Soul Society that easily.
I haven't really thought that far ahead but I would probably want Ichigo to be at the level of power just before he leaves for Hueco Mundo (so holding the Hollow Mask for 11 seconds).

If you are willing to continue and think you have the writing ability I would recomend doing this fic. It could end up being pure epic win.
According to the Bleach timeline Yoruichi and Uruhara would already have been gone. They disapeared 100 years before the series start. IIRC the hollow incident thing was somewhere around 50 years before.

This is a seriously sweet notion - it'd be something like fifty to a hundred years back which is relatively unexposed and:
Yamamoto nodded. "Most impressive, young man. Bankai at such an age... it's almost a pity that we already have captains for all the divisions or I would promote you immediately."
"Yeah, well running a division wouldn't be my idea of fun either," Ichigo said. "All that paperwork..."
The door to the captain's hall burst open and Komomura burst in, moving fast enough that he barely managed to open the door before entering. "Captain-Commander!" he exclaimed. "There is an emergency! Captain Tousen has been killed!"
Ichigo and Yamamoto stared at each other.
"No way in hell am I filling dead men's boots, old man."
"A guilty man might say the same to divert attention," Yamamoto growled.

If immolo's timeline is correct, then surely Urahara would have set up his shop with Tessai, Jinta and Ururu already, right? Unless he's still traveling around or something. Just when did he set up shop?
When exactly did Kurosaki Isshin ditch Soul Society? Which division did he run before ditching? I was thinking maybe 3rd or 10th. For the record, is there any specific timeline that illustrates when each division got their canon captains?
I would think that Ichigo would try not to draw attention to himself. Mainly because he's taking his dad's crazy advice about time travel seriously (insert Grampa Simpson's wedding advice to Homer in that old Simpsons Halloween Special)? Insert Ichigo doing this when he realizes that he's actually using his crazy old man's advice... :headbanger:
We also don't know when Tousen threw his chips in with Aizen. Perhaps if exposed to Ichigo long enough, his sense of Justice wouldn't be so warped as to join someone like Aizen.
For the record, I stated in my snippet that Shuuhei's communicator had been busted so no emergency call to SS [thus no Aizen and Gin] and it would take them longer to dispatch a search party when they realize that the students had not returned from the living world. I figure this would give room for more character development on a younger Kira, Hinamori, Renji, Shuuhei and the other students (assuming they all are safe somewhere and were able to be found). Maybe this would make Hinamori a little more interesting than her canon self.
drakensis, if Yamamoto turned the other way when Kenpachi took over Eleventh Division, then Ichigo would likely get similar treatment if he is judged to benefit SS in the long run.
