Still inking out the prologue. For the prologue, think the idea of hearing other people thoughts is pretty good so Im still working on that. But this has been written for awhile so Im posting for comments.
Approaching the front gates of Konoha, Naruto could not shake the feeling of apprehension. Why would he be anything but joyous was beyond him. After three years he was finally home. He was too excited for words.
How was Tsunade-obaachan doing?
How much stronger was Sakura after her training?
Was Shizune-neechan still saving the old hags money?
When Orochimaru and the Akatsuki began to heat up their search for the two of them, both him and Jiraiya decided to cease sending letters for fear of getting located. Naruto hated it like nothing else. But there was wisdom behind the approach. And no matter how much it pained him not to hear from his precious people he kept his stories of his adventures to himself.
Now he was here and could tell his friends in first person what happened. Only there seemed to be a marked diff to the place and Naruto could not figure out why. Plus, his unwilling tenant was being disturbingly quiet. The damn furball hadn't been quiet since their first impromptu meeting when that damn Ero-Sennin threw him off the cliff. For him to just suddenly shut-up for no apparent reason was raising his hackles a bit.
ôNee. Ero-sennin, you feel anything weird going on?ö
Jiraiya who until Naruto spoke was eyeing the random patrols around the main gate, shook his head. ôDon't know. Can't really pinpoint it.ö
'Other than the fact that there are twice as many patrols,' he silently thought. 'Was there an attack while we were away?'
ôHey, hey, hey, letÆs go. Need to say hey to Ichiraku and get a super special discount.ö
Distracted by his thoughts, Jiraiya nodded to the gate guard. The Chuunin, not a low level one from what he saw, gave Jiraiya the once over before recognition hit. The young chuunin eyes were shining in an unholy light.
ôJiraiya-sama, its good to see you again.ö
A smirk plastered Jiraiya's face, smug in the knowledge he was facing one of his many disciples. ôWhat's going on in the lovely Konoha today?ö
The Chuunin opened his mouth to speak, but stopped when he noticed Naruto standing to JiraiyaÆs side. And the muted flash of fury on the young mans face was easy to pick up before he schooled his features into placid calm.
Jiraiya quirked an eyebrow in question. 'What was that about?'
After so many years people still hated Naruto for the Kyuubi and that wasnÆt surprising, but that number was shrinking, especially amongst the younger generation after they were able to leave from under their parentÆs thumb of influences.
When he spoke, the Chuunins voice was full of barely strained fury, almost barking his words at the two of them. ôThe Hokage wishs to speak with you immediately. You are to report directly to her office.ö
Jiraiya nodded, taking a discreet glance at Naruto. As oblivious as he seemed most times, the actions of the chuunin couldn't be ignored.
ôSomething wrong?ö Naruto asked, face a blank slate, his voice taking on a darker hint.
ôYou damn right there is. You mon....ö
ôChuunin. Get back to your post and let them through,ö said the suddenly appearing ANBU member.ö The Konoha elite gave a deep bow to Jiraiya, saying in monotone, ôApologies Jiraiya-sama.ö
'ANBU, and an entire squad taking up different points along the wall from what I can tell.'
Finally growing tired of standing around, Naruto started walking toward the gate. ôCan't keep the old lady waiting forever. SheÆs not getting any younger. I want to surprise everyone.ö
Jiraiya started moving forward when he heard a quiet chuckle behind him just low enough that he would have missed it had the wind been blowing any harder.
ôKid, youÆre the one going to be in for one hell of a surprise.ö
He didn't pause, but Jiraiya made sure to prepare for any situation. If they were going to be ambushed in their own village, whoever it was going to be in a world of pain.
Break
Shizune sat on the park bench, the sun a glorious beacon of heat across her face, and watched her son work at building the biggest sand castle in history.
His words.
Not hers.
Sitting next to her was Sakura, and Tenten, both young women opting to get away from training and come enjoy a leisurely stroll with her.
ôNice day todayö sighed Shizune.
Her joy was from the weather yes, but more from being able to enjoy herself fully without worry over her child, her duty to her village, or her career. This pregnancy had come to her in one of the most undesirable ways possible. But if she had to go through it all over again she would not change anything. She didn't think she ever loved anyone or anything as much as she did the little boy that was such an interesting mix of her and his father genes.
Her eyes and hair. His face, smile, and love of life. Well, looking at the children playing she could say that for almost all of them. Anko and Tsunade-sama's children being two of the rare few who's personalities were more reserved than their always excitable father. A hilarious fact when you thought of who their mothers were.
ôYou have any idea when he's coming back?ö Tenten asked.
Shizune shook herself out of her inner monlogue, ôNo idea. Tsunade-sama says she hasn't gotten a letter in months. She thinks they ran into some trouble.ö
ôI hope they're okay.ö
Sakura shook her head. ôIÆm sure they're okay. They should even be returning home soon.ö
ôHow would we know,ö Tenten asked.
Sakura snorted, one of the new habits she picked up from the older woman in their group. ôTrust me, if Naruto was home we would all know it.ö
There was a loud shout that pierced the air like a foghorn being used in a thick fog. ôSAKURA-CHAN, SHIZUNE-NEECHAN, TENTEN-CHAN.ö
Shizune made an internal chuckle. 'Well, speak of the devil and he shall appear.'
His form appeared over the small hill, clad in that bright orange he always loved and the sight of him took her breath away. That twinkle in his eyes at seeing them and the way the light bounced off his sun kissed hair. Being a medic-nin, she knew the human body like few others, and even under his clothing she knew he was beautiful. Just thinking of him made her want run her tongue....
Her thoughts came to a screeching halt harder than Maito Gai crashing into a brick wall at full sprint.
'OH MY GOD! WHAT THE HELL AM I THINKING!!!'
Naruto was like a little brother to her. Since their first meeting he took to calling her neechan without a pause or change in personality. Like it was the most natural thing in the world to him and she loved it. Easily reciprocating the feeling and family like atmosphere he brought along.
But this warm feeling that swirled in her gut. The way her breath continued to accelerate the closer he came. How she was barely restraining herself from charging, talking, and taking him right there where he stood.
And from the looks of her sisters the feeling wasn't hers alone.
The part of her mind that wasnÆt focused on cataloging how soon she could sneak him away for a chance to give her son a brother or sister simply thought, 'This is going to be a problem.'
Hmm, there seems to be a slight side affect from the pregnancies
