According to Amazon, there are two more Dresden books coming out this year, both coming out in October.

Backup, which is a Dresdenverse book centered around Harry's brother Thomas, and Welcome To The Jungle, which Amazon didn't have any information on.

He has a website, you know. And Backup is a novelette, and Welcome to the Jungle is a comic book.

I keep noticing that the runes on his staff are in katakana. Why is that?

The katakana, not the noticing.

Probably because in the Dresdenverse magic requires you to use words to protect your mind. It doesn't matter what language those words are in so Ebenezer, who carved that staff or at least helped carve it, probably likes using katakana.

And unless I'm mistaken, whick I well could be, (It's been years since my last lesson) but I think are Ma, To, Rii, Ku & Su, or Matrix.

Sorry to say, but they aren't Katakana -- they're runes. I think you might be reading them wrong?

They actually are katakana and they actually do spell out Matori (tsu/pause) kusu.

Matrix.

I think that isn't his staff but rather Hiro's sword/cane. It would make sense since He is also carrying Michael's sword.

Mab's crazy switcher-roo *** (Only because I didn't catch it and Jim hid it so well that. Just. UGH. I hate it when things come out of left-field like that. Were their actually any clues to it?)
Going back to this, since it's the first time that I actually read this thread....

There are *lots* of hints about what's going on with Mab in prior books. Once of the more significant, I believe, is when Harry and crew go into Winter to rescue Molly, and find an image of Mab herself frozen in the center. Although I'm of two minds as to what the final direction could be, and they're rather diametrically opposed.

Also, why do I get the feeling that Lash is not yet gone as believed to be?
[More Spoilers!]

Do you mean the part with the subtle little "nudge" his hand (and then spell) received when he was using them in the aquarium? Because that was Uriel. I think the only time that Lash COULD have actually been show as to being alive was when Harry's head hurt like a bitch after he compared one of the weaker Denarian's hellfire to her own.
Warning for SPOILERS and speculation.

Regarding Lash (one of my favorite characters, after Dresden, of course):

First. We know from Buttons that Dresden's body regenerates to what it was originally. Additionally, we know that his soul also regenerates from Bob. And psychic backlash is supposed to heal. What if over the past couple years since White Night to Small Favor his mind i.e. Lash has been healing?

Second. Uriel takes control of his right hand. However, there are some interesting points where his left hand - the burned hand that used to have Lasciel's symbol on it - does some rather odd things.

Small Favor, ch. 33

Just as I was about to pull free, a silver coin rolled out from amidst the ruined tentacles that had passed for the thingÆs head and dropped toward my face. I jerked my head aside in a panic.

The falling coin missed touching my bare flesh by a hair and bounced off the concrete floor. My left hand moved, faster and smoother than I would have thought possible, snapping the coin from the air on the bounce as smoothly and nimbly as if it had been whole and healthy and not burned and scarred and covered in a leather glove.

I looked between it and my numb-tingling right hand for a quarter of a second.

What. The hell.

That was not normal.
If Lash is, as I conjecture, helping him with that hand, that ... must have been interesting. An archangel on his right, a fallen on his left.

Third. I don't think the hellfire was an indiction of Lash though. The part in question is this:

On the opposite side of Ivy, Rosanna launched more traditional lances of flame from her open palms, much like the ones Iù

ùa savage pain went through my skull for a secondùson of a bitchù

ùbut Ivy dispersed them with delicately applied wedges of air, intercepting each burst of fire far enough short of her body to prevent the bloom of heat as they died from scorching her
Remember that Mab took away his knowledge of all quick and dirty firespells to prevent Summer from honing in on him. Before the pain, he's thinking of the fire spells he has used before. Afterward, he doesn't even think of using fire for the rest of the match and instead uses wind variations.

On a related note, Mab is quite interesting. Since Lea is still being bound, Mab not only functions as a holder of debts from Dresden but also as his godmother. The scene after Uriel's was quite helpful. She didn't even demand another debt from him for the knowledge! ;)

I do wonder... Just throwing it out there, but perhaps Lea is being held on purpose? Oh, I'm sure Lea has her plans but Lea has always struck me as very pragmatic. She would know if she was or was not powerful enough to take on Mab. Interesting, no? One could consider Mab's offer of the Winter Knight a similar offer as to that of Lea's offer of becoming a Hell Hound.

Oh, of course, given Mab's predilection for win-win situations, she's got several lines of scenarios running. She wouldn't just offer the Winter Knight position to her godson if he wasn't powerful or resourceful in some way.

Regardless, as long as Mab holds the obligation of being a godmother to Harry, Mab must be considered a factor in all facets or decisions regarding Harry -- even perhaps to those that Winter would usually not hold a sway in. A nice little way to insert herself into any discussion if necessary...

Speaking of that, in Arctis Tor, Mab winked at him while imprisoned and certainly she has acted in rather contradictory ways at times (almost as if she were being possessed? and trying to fight it off?). We know that Summer attacks Dresden early, long before Dresden even accepts becoming the Winter Emissary. And Winter can only act in opposition to Summer. However, we also know from Lily and Maeve's interactions that Summer and Winter can collaborate together.

So... wonder if Titania also wanted Dresden to interfere and sent some emissaries (ostensibly because Winter was going to ask Dresden) earlier to, ah, convince him to help save Marcone? After all, Dresden's first reaction was to say no.

I can't help but think that for emissaries that are supposed to be investigating the Denarian abduction of Marcone, Summer spends a lot of time ignoring that whole issue. That indicates to me that they cannot take the position of frowning on breaking the Accord (Winter and Summer are in opposition and Dresden as Winter's emissary is against it so Summer cannot be against Accord breaking as well) but that they do frown on it and hence, do not help the Denarians at all.

Random thought: Harry's girlfriend - before Luccio - was named Susan. He names his dinosaur Sue. Coincidence? Allusion to something?

The T Rex that Harry brought back to life really exists, and it was named Sue after the paleontologist who discovered it back in 1990. Far more amusing is that for a few minutes at the end of the book, Sue the Dinosaur became Bob the Dinosaur. Given the Dilbert character of that name, I half expected the necromancers to get wedgied.

Fallen Angel in one hand, True Angel in the other? If you apply the theory from the Slayers anime that unholy magic + holy magic creates chaos magic, Harry's got an interesting potential trick up his sleeve.

.txt versions of books 1-10

I bought these books, but I started reading Codex Alera through ebooks, and I decided to buy them, too. This man is a great author and deserves our support. Read quickly and write well, because as awesome as Shezza and nuhuh may be, we don't want DLP taking over the fandom entirely. I can see it now...

WHAT'S THIS?
NO CRACKFICS
NO HAPPINESS
DARKFICS ONLY
FINAL DESTINATION

Yeah, but the whole skinwalker bit could be either a clue or a misdirection in regards to the identity of the traitor that Dresden's gotta find.

Heh, reminds me that the first episode of the TV show that aired featured a skinwalker.

Heh heh.

If he pulls that in the book, I will not be amused, Doombox or no.
Hmm, brings up an interesting conundrum. If he did that, could he be sued for ripping off what could be considered his own work?
