Huh, I vaguely reading something like that too. I think it was in a forum.

Huh, I just had a weird thought.

Has there ever been any fics where Rei becomes Shinji's stepmother? Like a fic where his father remarries when Shinji is a teen with one of his classmates.

Obviously some tension between them would be awesome. Something like MAMA WA DOUKYUUSEI for example.

Better: Gendo creates an adult!Rei and marries her. Fuyutsuki is like "WHAT."

I might have had an idea.

I think that it's been well established that Asuka is smart and reasonably attractive.

What if she was curious about, well a great many things. After all, lots of intelligent people are curious.

Of course, the "good part" of this idea is just deciding what Asuka is curious about.

Most of you should have some clue as to what direction this could go in.

If not, basically it's Asuka's turn in the perverted characterisation spotlight.

I don't think I need to go into any further detail here, do I?
I am reminded of a fic where the author made Asuka's college degree not just be an informed attribute. When she is told she has to live with Misato and go to college with other 14 year olds, she flatly refuses, lives in the NERV barracks and...I think she's more competent? I don't remember the details that well.
The main problem with that is that she may not be allowed to refuse. After all, she's fourteen (or thirteen, when she arrives), so if Gendo's plans require her to go to school, and/or live with Misato, he can make her.

Mind you, the 'college graduate forced to go to Junior High' thing is already a bit weird. Either it was important to Gendo's plans and he pulled strings, or NERV had some deal with the Japanese government that the Pilots had to go to school with their own age group, and he refused to make an exception for her... or some other option, like the Japanese Ministry of Education not believing that she could have graduated, and deciding that Germany had to have lowers standards (after all, they're foreigners). The fact that she can't read kanji (or at least is very bad at it) could be taken as evidence of that, despite the obvious reason.

Have a vague thought of her seeing her picture in a newspaper, and finding out it's an article about the abysmal standards foreign universities have, and her poor showing in Tokyo 3 Junior High School (due to the aforementioned lack of kanji skills) is used as a (blatantly unfair) example. Optionally, the author is also being racist about her non-Japanese heritage, and suggesting or implying that it's affected her intelligence negatively.

Either way, Asuka would be very pissed.

IIRC, you cannot skip grades in Japan. So, still being of compulsory education age, she HAD to go to school.

And, for those that don't read/watch Azumanga Daioh, that means...?

Chiyo-chan, the 10 year old Japanese girl who is attending highschool.

Ah, were you trying to point out that since it's fiction it doesn't have to conform to RL Japan or that skipping grades is possible in Japan because they can do it in Azumanga Daioh?

It might be irrelevant in this case. If Asuka is not a Japanese citizen, she is not subject to the Japanese school system.

Per at least one site she is: quarter Japanese, quarter German, American nationality/citizen

Per one site on Japanese citizenship:
Japan does not allow dual citizenship except to those having acquired dual citizenship prior to January 1, 1985, when the Nationality Law was enacted, and anyone who willingly applies and obtains foreign citizenship automatically forfeits Japanese citizenship

It might be a matter of residence: taking residence in Japan she has to go to school because she's underage and all, regardless her nationality.
Another example would be Ellis Willamette from GEAR Fighter Dendoh: a 10-years-old MIT doctorate yet she still goes to school with the other 10-years-old pilots.

Edit: if you think about it, in most anime\manga the various "genius" never skip a grade, even when they are light-years above their age-mates.

From something that I might be working on.

This idea has certain things changed before the Second Impact. Changes that might just make for an interesting setting.

Of course, that could be complete bollocks.

What do I know about storytelling?

"I know that you don't think too highly of Ikari, but I'd advise against antagonising him for the next few days, Naoko," Kozo Fuyutsuki said from behind his morning newspaper.

"And just what makes you think that I'm likely to antagonise him?" a woman with short, brown hair asked.

"Because I know you, Naoko," the grey-haired man answered. "Besides, every man has his limits. In case you didn't know, tomorrow would have been Yui's 35th birthday."

Naoko paused for a moment. She had known Yui Ikari before she'd married Gendo. What the brilliant young woman had seen in the man, she'd never know.

Gendo Rokubungi had a reputation for causing trouble, though this had stopped soon after Yui agreed to go out with him and when they got married, the man seemed to change completely. It was almost like the clichÚ that all he needed was the love of a good woman.

Things were fine until the day of Yui's accident when they were testing the Evangelion interface systems.

After Yui's death, Gendo Ikari underwent another personality shift. It broke him; changing him from the man who lived for his family to the cold-hearted bastard that he was today.

Some who knew about the tragedy of his wife's death speculated that he kept the family name of his wife to honour her memory, but since there was never an opportune moment to discuss such a thing with him it was mere speculation.

And that was the way he seemed to like it.

Any psychologist would have given their right arm to get the chance to study the man; but Gendo Ikari, would never give them the chance to probe his mental state.

It did beg the question as to why such a man was in charge of NERV, but the people who would ask such a question had never seen Gendo's impressive mental faculties at work. The man was like a sponge for absorbing details about people their foibles. He seemed to remember everything that was in a personnel file.

And not only that, his keen sense of observation did mean that he could pick up on body language as situations developed. This information was stored, processed and used to great effect.

Fuyutsuki had commented that Gendo Ikari knew how to get the best out of the people around him. Whether it was the technicians working on the Evangelions or the Section Two agents that maintained the security in NERV HQ, the Commander seemed to know what buttons to push, what carrot to offer and what stick to wield in order to get what he wanted done.

Naoko Akagi was beginning to wonder just what it was that Ikari wanted.

"Fine, have it your way, Kozo-chan," she said pouted before kissing her lover on the cheek. "I'll let Ikari mope in peace for a few days."

About people AND their foibles perhaps?

Otherwise I'm not quite entirely sure as to where you're going with this, except perhaps a route in which Naoko Akagi doesn't die.

This AU idea is still being formulated as I mull over various options for what could happen since things have changed.

Some of them pretty major.

Supremely random idea, but what if Shinji was trapped inside SAO at the age of 12? To further elaborate, he was purposely trapped inside to train him to use the Evangelion.

NERV and Seele helped Kayaba to hide. It was intended to remove Shinji ahead of time.

So by the time the game is cleared he would be 14 years old. Just in time for Evangelion to start.

Probably lots of plot holes in the idea, but well ;p

One day at lunch, Kensuke and Touji are speculating on the idea of Asuka and Rei being in a lesbian relationship (they're teenage boys, there doesn't have to be a logical reason for them to think things like that), and Shinji is hoping they'll shut up before Asuka hears-oops, too late. As Shinji, to terrified to speak, keeps gesturing for Kensuke to stop talking, and tries to call attention to the fact that Asuka and Rei have come up behind him (though from slightly different directions), Kensuke wonders aloud which one is the 'guy' in the relationship.

Before Mount Asuka can erupt, Rei says "Although my hair is shorter, Pilot Soryu is in all other ways the more masculine of the two of us." This probably saves Kensuke from serious injury, as the boys find that distraction a good time to run away. For some time afterward, Asuka takes it into her head to prove her femininity - to Shinji, for reasons he can't quite comprehend. Hilarity Ensues.

All the while everyone, including Shinji, thinks the two really are in a lesbian relationship

Given the LCL age thing, does this mean we could literally have Loli Auska/Rei as pilots?

The age thing only happens if the protagonist is trapped in his Eva for (I don't know how many) years.

For the purposes of storytelling and creative liberties, such minor details can always be adjusted for the Drama! or Lulz!

Random idea that only works in the crackfic world that I seem to inhabit most of the time.

Ritsuko has cats. This is a fact.

What if one of those cats was Tonnura-san?

I would pay all of my money just to see Gendo's reaction.
