Re cults in NGE.

Well, there have been some cults used before in Innortal's Omake Files, they weren't used in the way you're suggesting, Zerohour.

I must be tired, because I might have just thought of how to use something along these lines in an existing fic. Possibly The Emperor's New Angst.

Then again, maybe it would just be Shinji's luck to get some kind of weird cultists following him and Rei around in Can't Believe?

Like I said, I'm tired so I don't really know what I'm putting here.

I think there was a fic around here somewhere, that had Gendo creating cults, repeatedly, to the point that Shinji is really cynical and snarky about it. Probably wasn't as serious as zerohour might be thinking, though.

I know there is a Ranma/NGE/SM crossover that had Gendo promoting and helping cults to conceal his real intents...

Of course Gendo was a moron in that because he had the stupidity to pull a gun on Ranma in a public forum...

All that was in 'Impacted Souls' by ZRO4825

That was one of Innortal's Omake Files, Gendo's Need, I think. Went for like 4 or 5 chapters. And no, not remotely serious. Previous cults included the Worshipers of Adam, something involving a robotic Godzilla (not to be confused with Mecha-Godzilla), and faking having the Dragonballs and summoning the Eternal Dragon.

Second Impact was Gendo trying to hide an affair and get the life insurance money for everyone at Antarctica.

For a comedy route... there is the one where he inherits Nerv after Gendo is run over and killed by a drunk Misato whom does not even remember doing so...

I think it was called 'Under New Management' by 049 Faithless Observer.
I think I remember reading this years ago. Think I'll dig it out and give it a readthrough, was quite funny as i recall.

No, I haven't watched the whole anime yet. -_- But here's a shitty idea despite that:
He woke up from his slumber and opened his eyes. A white haired boy stared down at him, while the rain poured down on them both.
He sat up, slightly disoriented from the slumber and tried to look around. They were on a large wet grass hill that sat in front of the ocean.
-"How long have I slept?"
-"Almost 16 years now".
-"16 years... And how long have this rain lasted?"
-"It began moments before you awoke. It is indeed undeniable proof of your splendor."
The brown haired boy frowned.
-"It hasn't rained for 16 years?"
-"That is correct."
-What of the others?"
-"I do not know. I've sat here by your side, both night and day, never resting, always watching as your body grew while you slumbered. But I know that the others felt it. The undeniable presence of yours. We will never forget it."
Shinji smiled. Kaworu always made him feel safe. It was good to have him as a servant and a friend.
-"Then there is no time to rest. All must once again become one. I trust the others are already on their way?"
-"Most of them should be, except for one: Adam."
-"What is stopping him?"
-"The mortals captured and imprisoned him. He is incapable of freeing himself from what I understand."
Shinji went silent as he considered the situation. It was bad. They would not be able to do their duty if Adam weren't there.
So he made a decision.
-"Kaworu, where are they keeping Adam?"
-"Deep beneath the human fortress city that is known as Tokyo-3."
-"Then prepare yourself. When the other angels arrive, we'll march on Tokyo-3, and sack it in order to save Adam."
-"But the humans have developed these strange powerful machine. I think they are called Evangelions and they have powers that are similar to our own."
"There is no need to worry. Even if they can match your overwhelming battle power, it is all meaningless. Because in the end, it doesn't matter what or who they are when they stand before me. For I am God and the Apocalypse is about to begin."
And the sky continued to weep as the beginning of the Flood that will drown the world had begun.
I want to write about a depressed God!Shinji who's mood is affecting the weather. But I know that it will never be. Maybe it's for the best.-_-

Shinji gets caught in 3rd impact and vanishes.

Gendo reveals that he's Shinji, who was sent back in time 20-ish years.

"Shinji, is this really okay?" Rei asked gently, sitting in front of his desk where both of them were gazing outside the window to the side, watching several blue penguins scramble to lift a heavy load and carry it towards a miniaturized EVA-01. Shinji looked away from the spectacle of the bat-winged flightless birds openly taunting each other to regard the bluenette.

"It's the only thing I can think to do, Rei... Where's Asuka?" He tried to change the subject, the minute frown on the red-eyed girl's face telling him she wouldn't let it go so easy, "Sohryu is personally seeing to her own fitting for the Eva armor. Her prinnies are reported to be extremely jealous of our's."

Shinji could see that, considering how Asuka probably worked the poor suckers to death, but that was the whole point in paying for their sins, just like he was paying for his in this new world not of his own making.

This other Netherworld.

AU during the 3.33 movie: Some time after the hypocritical idiots put the bomb collar on him, Shinji encounters a weird little creature with four ears, which offers him one wish, in return for serving as a magical girlboy, because he has so much power, and they need him to save the universe.

...Well, they won't have to worry about anymore Impacts at the end of the movie. Granted, there will be the issue of the witch Shinji becomes after he watches the only real emotional connection he thinks he has at the moment get his head blown off as a result of a mistake Shinji made, but, hey, no more Impacts, right?

What about one where Shinji gets back from the 12th Angel and they learn he's got Haruhi-grade reality bending powers so they've got to spend the entire war pretending nothing's up and going out of their way to stop him getting depressed, much to his bemusement, lest he switches off the universe.

In the right hands, this could be an entertaining fic. However, I can't help but feel that it's been done before.

I could be wrong though, and I frequently am.

I think that Bruce Shinji Almighty has been done before, and there have been Haruhi x-overs, but not both at the same time. It could be fun.

Still in the middle of doing my Mass Effect/Eva crossover (don't ask, was drinking way too much caffeine when I came up with that) but I think I might try and give this a go when I'm done. That plot bunny is hopping madly and it just might have to be addressed. Would definitely be in the humor section, but definitely not quite parody.
Trick will be I guess doing it without making it too serious, as in my experience when fics are started purely for humour, ten or so chapters in the author often decides to make them serious for some reason.

Actually... I've quite liked the NGE/Mass Effect cross and looking forward to the next chapter... if there was anything I'd want to you continue afterward (which ideally will not be for awhile), it was be the old NGE/El Hazard crossover with Kalia and Shinji...

What can I say, I have a thing for unlikely pairings that border on crack, if Aria and Shinji isn't proof enough of that. What killed the Kalia one was actually a chapter I'd been writing about 7000 words in which my laptop promptly died during which I couldn't fully recall a huge bunch of plot points that developed during it. I've attempted to rewrite it a few times but it just doesn't...feel right. Give me some time and I'll probably nail it again. That's the only reason I haven't deleted it yet: I genuinely still hold hope (though I will rewrite the earlier chapters before I actually continue it) but I've got to finish my current works first.

Different take on this, following his time in the pocket dimension of the 12th Angel, Shinji finds he is able to project himself into another reality while he sleeps, which I see going one of two ways.

First, he learns things he can carry over to his own world, techniques, technologies, even magic, baffling everyone around him and kicking ass left and right

Or

Whatever this other world is, Shinji is accepted, loved and happy, and instead of just going when he sleeps at night, he starts dozing more often, spending more and more time in this other world, and becoming harder for others to awake and, once they find out, the people of NERV have to find a way to convince him not to leave them high and dry.

I like that, could lend itself to both humor and drama. Kind of like Life on Mars if you've ever seen that show. Is the dream really a dream when it's more real than the waking world, like the real world itself starts to seem like a dull dream where even things like touch, smell and feeling start to seem almost distant.

Actually... Innortal Did a really neat story like this, for that matter, so did Zentrodie... regrettably of them

'Duality' by Innortal is only a few chapters.

'Divergence' by Zentrodie is complete, but I dislike the no-ending ending.

Okay, back on topic. Ideas...parody/humour this time.

How about, just before Shinji arrives at NERV during the Third/Fourth Angel attack, Gendo is thrown over and hits his head and it somehow causes him to develop a split personality which he switches between at inopportune moments: regular Gendo and EvAbridged Gendo. the latter being the one Shinji encounters when he first arrives.

Never seen Eva Abridged... the various abridged things comes across as just plain wrong to me so avoid them like the plague... but is that Gendo anything like he is in 'Ikari Shinji Ikusei Keikaku'? That is the creepiest Gendo I've ever encountered... and that is a canon Gendo, even if not TV or manga or redo continuities...

It's worth a watch over at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu2JcjYxEV8 it's probably the only eva abridged that's actually funny. I'd call this Gendo the Raising Project one if he'd been dropped on his head as a baby.

An idea that needs some background: in the now-defunct BattleTech Round Robin ('An entry With a Bang', which was pretty good, before it went off the rails, crashed, burned, died, and kept on moving until the zombie was destroyed - which is why I can't link you to it, since SB.com deleted the subforum it was on), and the current fic Candle in the Dark (which is better, partly due to better organization), a fifty-light-year radius sphere centered on twentieth century Earth appeared outside the Inner Sphere, spinward of Antallos, and was discovered by space pirates about fifty years later, in 2005 (in the BTRR, anyway: CitD had it appear in 2014, and be discovered in 2024, by the same bunch of space pirates). The pirates get some interesting loot, whether by stealing it (BTRR), or buying it (CitD), go back to Port Krin, and then sell the coordinates to Aidan Vorax, the Chief-Thug-in-Charge of Port Krin, the spaceport/pirate haven on Antallos, who decides to gather a bloody great fleet of space pirates to conquer the place (because nothing can possibly go wrong with that idea, right?).

A discussion on SB.com that has next to nothing to do with it made me wonder about doing something like the start of the BTRR to an Evangelion Earth, either before or during the events of the series (after would be a very different story). This could rather bugger up SEELE's plans, quiaff?

An amusing thought - the Evangelions becoming sentient.

No, not Yui and company - the evas themselves. Don't really see it going anywhere itself, but I whimsically consider an AI having to deal with a whiny emo resident (the 'donor soul') and a really pathetic kid (any of the three main pilots).
