Anyone else read the latest chapter of The Tragic Harmony Of Life (chapter 11)?
I loved the beginning of the story.
That love began to go downhill when he went back to Nerv.
It futher decreased with the overall way he was treated. And the fact I knew it was going to go south once he agreed to get inside a plug. Once it was found he could still sync... his fate was sealed.
Even more as they put him back in combat, when they knew he did not want to do so.
Even more as they heaped more and more guilt on him by blaming him for things.
With this last chapter, they've now proven they are no better than the old Nerv. And that Misato has not learned from her own past mistakes with Shinji. I hope it comes back to haunt her.
Shinji's blowup in it IMHO was not near big enough for the manipulations and treatment they've given him.

It was like someone looked at the time loops we do on site, disilled out of them everything that sucked, leaving none of the awsome, and decided that was the story they wanted to tell.
Damn it, it reminds me of the idea I had for a few loops that was awsome (at least in my own personal reality), that I never did.

Dr. Strangelove was hit or miss, sort of like a greatest hits album of crack, except most of the stuff was just kind of meh.
I was however shocked to find something of mine on TVTrope's list of Recs.

Awhile ago I ran across this hilarious rant/essay that said NGE made so much more sense with the genders flipped. "Shinjiko" and "Mansuka" were involved. Does anyone know where I can find that, since I should have bookmarked it. I really should have.
There was one fic that said Shinji's gender had been switched earlier on the list, but does anyone know of any others? More specifically, fics with a female Kaworu.
My first impression of that episode (before I learned what Daisuke meant), was that that the director, as part of his ongoing madness, was trying to do shonen-ai and failing. You can tell it's bad shonen-ai right away when the character dynamics only make any sense whatsoever if one of the characters is secretly female. Possibly both, because... canon!Shinji.
With Female!Kaworu, it becomes a fairly straightforward sex metaphor (giving up of virginity in specific), the female character allowing the male to hurt her (penetration) and willing to die (death by childbirth used to be common), so that the male character's genes/species can go on into the future. It's a beautiful tragic sacrifice archetype, with all the "I think I was born to meet you," and, "I realize that you're awesome, even if no one else does," stuff that makes women swoon and hope they will one day meet a man worth doing that for.
So, obviously Gendo and SEELE had to move fast before the experience caused Shinji to man up. After all, they were trying to get him to lay down and die, and how could he do that when the woman who loved him had laid down her life so he could live?
Bonus points for utter crack and pointing out that fem!Kaworu went past all their defenses like they weren't even there and yet the day was saved, thanks to... Shinji the Sex God! :hail:

I remembered Thousand Shinji (and presumably, The Open Door) were recommended here, so I figured this was the place for my current recommendation.
It's called The Doorstop.
It's a very interesting deconstruction/AU of The Open Door, where New Chaos lacks both Plot Armor and Automatic Moral Superiority. The TSAB is taking the lead against New Chaos, and it's using Spiral Drivers (gotten from trade) to augment the New Republic and Alpha Quadrants into fighting alongside them.
Up to 40 chapters & 176K words now, and in the latest, Chrono followed in his father's footsteps by sacrificing his flagship to keep Chaos forces from getting to the rest of his fleet. This is not the first time something unfortunate (beyond stuff pulled from AcademiaÆs works) has happened to canon characters.
Update patterns are slightly sporadic, usually a couple months of downtime, then two to five chapters covering a couple plot arcs broken into digestible chunks.

I recommend this for something very important: the writer is trying to write life, not just some kind of fantasy story. No author projections, no sugary mush, but the bittersweet taste of life itself. It's actually something some of us here could aspire to write one day, regardless of fandom. Bringing the characters just that half-step closer to reality can often make us create better stories.

I recommend this for something very important: the writer is trying to write life, not just some kind of fantasy story.
