If you're asking whether it was altered for the purposes of the game, that's probably not really a question we can answer, because it will have been altered due to the fact that it had to be converted into Japanese sounds.
... no, his name was not altered for the purposes of the game.

I wonder if there is a romance option for Archer if you're the female MC. Apparently he is more dere to the female MC than the Male, and apparently from what I've read on 4Chan if you're the male MC with Archer you have to work harder to get your social links etc. Or stats up or something.

Also, I wonder when doujins are going to start coming out damn it.

In the year 2032, an artifact from a prehuman civilization is discovered on the surface of the moon -- a quantum computing device that comes to be known as Moon Cell, the Holy Grail of the Seven Skies, capable of fulfilling any wish within the realm of that allowed by the laws of physics.

The story takes place within a school called the Tsukumihara Academy (Moon-Sea Plains Academy), which exists within an artificial environment (moon colony?) called the Moon Cell Automaton. Within this setting, a system known as Serial Phantasm (Se.Ra.Ph, spirit particle world materialization) allows the summoning of Servants (computerized daemons or 'Familiars') and the creation of an 'extradimensional' randomly generated maze called the Arena, in which the Grail War is fought ...

Mage Classes (?):
Wizards: Those who follow the traditions passed down from the Atlas Mountains, who bear the ability to materialize souls through Serial Phantasm.
New Generation Mages: Those who can act upon the system of the world through manipulation of the electron sea that is the basis of all matter.
Soul Particle Hackers: Those who can act directly upon the Arena by will.

The overseer of the war is a familiar-looking guy called Priest Kotomine. Welcome to the Midnight Channel.

If not an official release, then there will almost certainly be some group that does an unofficial translation, allowing English speakers to play the game using a PSP emulator.

There's a difference between a fighting game with probably less than 100kb of storyline text and an RPG.

Chances are pretty low.
Agreed. The two biggest indicators are the fact that they haven't announced any sort of English release, which they would have done by now if they had any plans to do so, and the fact that the original Fate/Stay Night hasn't been released in English either. If they were going to publish anything, it would make more sense to release the original and wildly popular game first, as opposed to a spin-off. If there is a release of this game into English, then it almost certainly won't be for a good couple of years.

Come to think of it, that's kind of weird that Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime haven't been published in English. Granted, they are pretty long, but given that there are many significantly less popular visual novels that have been released, I would have thought that someone would have tried to bring it over by now.

EDIT: Then again, I'm pretty tired, so it is entirely possible that I am rambling incoherently.

EDIT: Nevermind. Not being very clear. Basically I meant that people will be able to hack the files so you can play Fate/Extra in English on the PSP without a UMD. As far as an actual emulator that allows you to play PSP games on a computer, I don't know if such programs exist.

There are PSP emulators, but they barely work. One of them can play like maybe 10 games, and the other one can play a grand total of one.

Anyways, a bunch of awesome info in this thread that just makes me want to play this game more. Too bad I have yet to find someone to make me a Pandora Battery. I may just have to buy one off the internet, but I don't really trust that.

Also, I lol at Caster-Kyuubi. She's more awesome than I was expecting.

I looked around on Google, and it looks like Souffle is right and Ignition is taking a look at bringing it over, though there is nothing definite.

Then again, read the comments to see what other people think about the idea.

There's practically no hacking involved in this. Rip the umd, put it in the iso folder on your stick, play away as long as you have a psp modded to do so.

If they did bring it over I imagine it would be a fairly limited release. Besides the anime and the PSP game Fate has little exposure over here. Probably would be a bit expensive also.

Considering what the company did to Lux it's also a bit of a problem. I'll admit that I didn't like the game itself, but even with that I think I can honestly say that they could have done better. However, while I would prefer Nippon Ichi or Atlus to do it I really just want the Fate game to be sent over.

I meant to 'hack' the files so that the text is in English, not Japanese. Sorry, didn't get much sleep last night and am having difficulty stating things clearly.

@grant: Don't know much about Ignition, and it makes me nervous that so many people have a problem with the company, but, at the end of the day, I'm pretty sure I would suck it up for the chance to play it in English.

Ah. I don't have high hopes for any fantranslation for it since it's not a goddamn kingdom hearts game.

I don't get the hate for ignition, who cares about the translation of some nintendo DS games when they brought over superior games such as Muramasa and recently Arc Rise Fantasia with decent translations? This is also their first PSP game, and I've not heard anything bad about their somewhat recent Nostalgia game for the DS.

Meanwhile some game i never heard about on the DS has a poor translation and some fans whack their shit all about it. Whelp...

Ignition did some really shitty work on Lux Pain and a couple of other games.

They did clean up their act fairly well with Muramasa though, like Souffle <s>trolled</s>said. (Haven't played ARF, so I couldn't say there.)

I'm surprised that any company's looking into F/E though, so here's to hoping a miracle occurs.

Caster-Kyuubi Dress-Up Flash Game. (Click image to play)

Red Saber's Tsundere Bathtime Flash Game. (Click image to play)

From Kinoko's blog. Kinoko also notes:

The player's relationship with their servant changes based on the player character's sex. Red Saber treats both a male and female protagonist about the same. Archer speaks to female protagonists more nicely, and to male protagonists like a somewhat annoying sempai. Caster-Kyuubi treats a male protagonist more nicely, but actually having a "good" relationship with her in either sex is difficult.

Overall, however, the plot and storyline do not change based on player character sex, but character-level interaction with the cast may be different. The male and female protagonists also apparently have different manners of speech and internal monologue.

Click the button indicated. There's usually only one, except for Caster-Kyuubi's costume choice screen, shown above. For Caster-Kyuubi, you need to unlock the indicated lock within a time limit by clicking it repeatedly. For Red Saber, you click the fireplace to deplete the fire icons at the top of the screen within the time limit without falling out of either end of the heat meter. Both games have a number of rounds.
