Gurren Lagann.

Also, another anime i remember hating was Mahoromatic's second season, purely for the ending. Thanks, gainax. They pulled an evangelion on an anime that was otherwise good and thus ruined it

Just snooping around, a little late, but wondered where in this thread Metal Gear was;

"Metal Gear... it can't be!"

Still...no one else in Gundam-verse can boast going through as many Mobile Suits like tissue paper as Char can.
I know it's an old post and I missed it, but...

Anavel Gato, the Nightmare of Solomon, wants to have a word with you. Granted, he had the Neue Ziel, but he took out a full FLEET in a single battle, even if it cost him his life.

True, though Char did quite a bit with the next to most inferior suit and came out alive.

Old thread, yes, but I must.

My favorite designs are from the anime Big O (which sadly is underrepresented on this forum). First is the namesake mecha (or Megadeus, as they're called in Paradigm City):

Then there's his nemesis, Big Duo:

...COCKpit was never more appropriate, given its positioning in Orbital Frames. :snigger:

For variable form mecha, I like Zeta best of all. Waverider is awesome, the beam-sabers that can shoot you is awesome, the beam rifle bayonet is awesome. Biosensor being H4X when Kamille goes postal is awesome.

<s>Wing Gundam is hereby stricken from my list of favourite mecha.</s>

Gentlemen, I love Zeta.

Ah, yes, I always liked Big O's mecha designs.

Also...

Zearth, from Bokurano, has a pretty cool design, despite the whole manga being a beautiful example of Sucks To Be You, Heroes?.

Oh, goodie. I'm not the only one here going emo over Bokurano.

Anyway, I like Gurren Lagann and Big O's mecha, but my personal favorite mecha--let me finish my classes and I'll post some pictures.

Okay, my favorite mecha: the Machina from Kurogane no Linebarrel!

The big guy himself.

And...

Verdant, the sword-swinging mecha that puts all other sword swingers to shame (he uses the "coffins" he carries around to carry swords--and uses about eigh to twelvet in combat).

Is that the "Grab tits, summon mech" one? I never really paid attention to it.

No no no, (thought that *does* sound interesting...) Kurogane no Linebarrel is about a wimpy kid who gets in an accident while on a field trip when a "meteor" lands right in front of him. He ends up in the hospital with a coma for a few months, and when he wakes up he's an aggresive jerk who has bullying tendencies.

Then he finds out that MAYBE the meteor/satellite that nearly hit him might have been a giant robot, and MAYBE he didn't actually survive...

It's pretty good. I recommend it.

Hmmm... sounds like one of the parody robot series of Neon Genesis. I cannot think of the name of it, but one in particular comes to mind, it was only I think two DVD's. Saw the first episode, it was ... bad.

Regretrtibly, a search of NGE parodies did not yield it, though I found one wierd one on Youtube:

Actually, I think he may be talking about Cannon God Exaxxion, by Kenichi Sonoda, the guy that did the Gunsmith Cat series...if I remember correctly, though it's been awhile since I've read it, so I could be wrong...but I think I recall something along those lines occurring. Manga Hut has some of it, and some can also be downloaded at Stop Tazmo...but both have missing chapters. I recall finding it fairly good, though it's been awhile.

I second the recommendation for Kurogane no Linebarrel...good manga, and the mecha designs are also pretty cool. :sisi:

Edit: I was thinking of this:

The Linebarrel mechs look a LOT like the ones in Z.o.E., wonder if that's coincidence...
I... don't think so. I think it could be an indirect tribute.

Besides, most giant robots look pretty similar. The only "unique" ones I can think of are Exaxxion and Big O. Most giant robots look like Gundams.

Oh, Mechwarrior uses other design influences, so those are pretty unique.

The parent of Mechwarrior stole its first set of designs off of Macross' destroids. Gears Online should have the original lineart. Speaking of Macross, its designs should be rather unique given its focus on planes first and humanoid forms somewhat second. If nothing else, since it originated at about the same time.

How about Xenogears? The first generation of Transformers? TTGL (well, the first time I regularly saw faces primarily on the body)? Gunbuster? They all seem pretty unique to me.

that's why it's trash can, not trash cannot
Ungh. Personally I believe most Btech designs are rather hit or miss; the Blood Asp and Shadow Cat showing two of my most common gripes. Why, oh why make the location of your cockpit so hideously prominent and vulnerable? The Vulture has a more sensible layout, and reduced field of view from things beneath...? Easily solved by a gun-camera. As for the Blood Asp; missiles. Things that explode. Right at the center torso. Where most people would normally aim at, as a matter of course. Granted, many other designs do this, but at least the Atlas puts the launchers at an angle, off to the sides, and we take it for granted that its primary saving grace is a monstrous amount of armor.

That said, the Uziel:

Protected cockpit, rounded armor, missile pod location less critical to the 'mech in case of blow-out... seriously, I'm surprised why this is said to be not so well-armored as it appears to be. The leg structure's a bit complex, but it's a very well-rounded mech suited for mass production.

edit:
Well, it IS a mass-production 'mech, after all. What's the hate-on for mass-production types in most mecha media? It's where you distill the most elements that make sense; THEN spam them at the enemy. Never are heroes all the most badass as when they do it in a mass-production or until then second-tier machine; proving it's the man that makes the mecha dangerous, not vice versa.

Not Wing's plot armor, though. That's just lame.

Amuro kicking ass in melee with a Guncannon? Awesome!
