And that is a bad thing?  I was under the impression that the opposite was bad: no resolution to outstanding plot threads.

Depends on how fast those answers come. Sometimes you want all the answers at once, sometimes you want them given over time so as not to be overwhelmed.

Bobmin author of the HP/Pern xover Beneath Sovereign Skies has posted his outline of the story's major plot points through to his planned ending on his Yahoo!Group. He also posted the incomplete chapter he was working on last week, also on his Yahoo!Group.

Can we have a link please ?

Given how most fanfiction sites are restricted from hosting it, that's not an uncommon conclusion to make.

I listened to an audio-tape of one book in that series a long, long, LONG time ago, when I was on a car trip going somewhere that memory has lost. Never read any of the series for real.

If  you are looking for a link to the final chapter of Beneath Sovereign Skies it is now available on ff.net.

As for the outline of what follows that you would need to go to his Yahoo!Group.

It was before my time, but I guess it was relatively popular for fanfics like 20 years ago, with internet groups calling themselves "Weyrs" and stuff.

Then the author carpet-bombed all the fan communities out of existence with C&D letters and that was that.

I read them all in elementary/middle school, picked 'em up from a second hand book store.

They were okay, but I remember thinking that the happy ending at the very end of the series would get the entire planet hauled before a Galactic Tribunal for committing Crimes Against Life: Ecocide once the rest of the galaxy found out.

I remember when that happened with Wheel of Time fics, though after the initial C&D rounds and briefly people not writing it, people went back to writing (and not finishing) WoT fics with no problems.

I wonder if we'll ever get an evil and/or manipulative Dumbledore fic where he isn't cartoonishly villainous

I guess it's actually really hard to write a villain who's competent because it's all too easy to write yourself into a corner and have to pull out blatant plot devices for the hero to win

How would you explain leaving Harry at the Dursley's doorstep then? If he were a competent villain, wouldn't it be a lot easier to kill Harry off as soon as he got his hands on him? Or arrange an 'unfortunate' accident long before he gets his Hogwarts letter?

The idea *might* work if you think of Dumbledore as a senile villain, but that quickly jumps to comedy territory.

Not The Goddamn @dmin
The problem is that as Dumbledore is written in the books, he's either a cartoonishly evil old man, a senile old man, or a psychopathic old man that's trying to be good.

I like to believe it's the latter. Psychopathy isn't actually all that rare, most people just learn to consciously emulate a conscious/empathy to make up for the lack of one. When you take into account that Dumbledore is probably forcing himself on the muggleborn issue, and what happened to his little sister, you can imagine that it's not a great combo.

Especially for someone who once believed muggles needed to be ruled by wizards. I would expect a lot of patronizing opinion and 'mighty whiteywizard' viewpoints from Dumbledore.

I was asking for the link inside the yahoo group. I can't navigate that shit and I swear I've never heard of a worst social system. Why people are using it I don't even know. I guess it's free and that's the only thing.
