Ranma ½ Is it any good

The only one I really liked in dswynnes' works is 'Ranma the Wonder'. It had decent quality and the fact that it wasn't connected to his big brundlefuck that is the 'Trek' chronicles for either Ranma or Sailor Moon, but it was a bit of a disappointment due its short chapter length before it was finished.

What about dswynne's works? I mean, this author wrote lots of big stories, but it seems as if nobody here talks about them at all. I never felt compelled to read them myself mainly because of my disinterest with ST fandom, but perhaps they are just the thing to get me started? What do you think?
His stories tend to range between mediocre and poor. I would suppose it's rather easy to write as much as he has when you don't have to worry about actual quality.
That depends... the one of his I liked most is the one not on FF.NET, it is over at Ranmafics.
Which fic are you talking about?

I hope this doesn't mean I'm an idiot or anything.

I'm just curious what fic of his isn't up on his FFN account.

So... what about 'Heir of the Lost Dynasty' by HistorianoftheKais

Now... I happened to like the Ranma/Michiru stuff on AA this author has, some of which was removed, and a couple others the author had a hand in, but most left hanging. I also happened to quite like that authors 'Ranma, Mage of the Darkness' on FF.NET.

However, except RMotD, I'm not overly cared for most of his stuff on FF.NET, especially the Usagi matchup ones.

This one, I've been tempted to see, but not sure. I do not overly know anything about the 3rd universe it is crossed with.

Opinions?

EDIT1: as for Spooky... I just noticed your post. I've no clue what happened to that post, as I was sure I pasted in the link before.

In any case, rechecking it, I note that the fic i was thinking of was not by him.

EDIT2: I had thought it was, and had posted in that blank post above:

R-MULTI 'Ranma The Adventurer' by DS Wynne - [Status=Inactive] - [Last Dld=05/28/2005] - [Size=90kb] - [Files=7]However, the one I was really thinking of as being by him was not that story at all, but:

R-MULTI 'Journey' by druth - [Status=Inactive] - [Last Dld=10/12/2005] - [Size=1062kb] - [Files=9]

Do you have links to any of the first two you mentioned that were both by Historianofthekais?

Pretty lazy, TBH. Though, I was actually talking about the AA threads.

found this one yesterday. however it doesn't have any reviews as of yet so i can't tell by those if i would want to read it or not. So i tried to read it but as it turned out the first few chapters in it are just author notes. I got to wherre the authors new charecter bio's and saw that all he decided to have pretty much all the charecters three yeaars younger to mesh with the sailor moon cast.

anyway here's the link

Please, don't read it. The real Ranma disappears in the very first chapter forever and there's only an OC called 'Ranma Tsukino' left. No relation to the Saotome and the story so far is pointless. Can't even be called a fukufic since Ranma is not in the story.

Well, if even Dumbledork hate the thing, that pretty much mean that it should crash, burn and be forever forgotten for the rest of all time. :sisi:

Maybe that's what I want you to think, and the story might be great. Anyone brave enough to check it out? I dare you.

Meh... read worse.

Having said that, there are quite a number of items I dislike about it.

1. Chapters too short.

2. Should not need two chapters to summarize backgrounds.

3. Of the backgrounds and events given, a large number of them have been changed from canon. Far more than the initial summary at top of first chapter suggests. Others are incomplete. For example, author lists items senshi use, but while time was taken to note each one had a communicator, several things like aqua mirror are missing from the list. Whether they actually have the missing items I do not know.

4. Author has dialog issues, from repeated words to mid converstaion statements that seem out of order or context.

Has anyone read this and can tell me if it is any good? The summary gives marks against it... but the series involved could make for an interesting combination.

Did you hear that noise? That was the sound of soul-crushing agony as millions cried out in fear, and were suddenly silenced...

With that sort of description I'd wager "no" and buy safety and sanity through not verifying.

The first chapter is a resounding No.

Well, good is a very subjective concept. I like it because it's Ranma/Kasumi. The story is somewhat rushed and both Ranma and Kasumi are born vampires. It's entertaining.

If that is the only reason to like it, then it is likely a 'no' for me reading it.

The pairing does not bother me, but it has to have a plot or something else that is good enough to draw me into wanting to read it other than pairing for me to consider it worthwhile. A good plot can even forgive bad pairings, but good pairings does not make up for bad plots.
