The creator has spoken.

Bolin using a lava disc, Mako doing all-out lightning bending at last and Prince Wu controlling badgermoles were pretty cool moments, by the by.

RE: new Avatar season coming

Even those of us who don't watch LoK can't help but witness to this. The last I looked Korra had attempted(?) to steal Mako from Asami and now I'm curious. How were things resolved between them?

After each of them failed to have a sucessful relationship with Mako in Book 1 and 2, they started bonding and becoming proper friends in Book 3 by hanging out, having driving lessons, teasing Mako, getting captured together etc.

So now that the show is over, I'm kind of realizing something.

Korra was a pretty bad Avatar.

Like, really bad.

So was Aang. If the Avatar was doing their job, we wouldn't have a show.

Not really. Aang ended a 100 year war after disappearing because Avatar state shenanigans, and went on to establish Republic City with Zuko and created a movement to preserve Air culture.

Korra defeated Amon and brought back the Airbenders which in itself is kind of a mixed bag.

That's about it. Nearly every other problem in the series Korra solved can be loosely traced back to something she did.

She's just getting started, let's wait until the end of her life before we call her a bad Avatar....especially when we have so few examples of a very long legacy.

And let's not sugar coat it, Aang ran. He didn't want to deal with being the Avatar so he made a break for it and was still running 100 years later.

TFF -> Call our Korra thread 'new Avatar season coming' for four years. Day after Korra ends: Hey, let's rename the thread Korra. :snigger:

I should also point out that Aang had a singular goal, stop the firelord and restore balance. There was no question about the Firelord's methods or reasoning. The guy was a selfish monster who was willing to burn a continent. Amon, had a fair point about benders, Zaheer wasn't wrong about the Monarchy of the Earth empire and Kuvira's determination to prevent chaos was not, initially wrong. Korra had a more complex situation. She was almost never given so clear an enemy as Ozai.

Not sugar coating it. Him running was him running.

Him freezing for 100 years was Avatar State Shenanigans.

To be fair to Aang, he was running to the South Pole, not away. It does imply that he planned / wanted to start his waterbending training, or just wanted to fuck around with the other kids.

He fucked up, yeah, but if he hadn't... 50/50 shot the world would have been a lot worse a century after the comet.

Your wish is my command

That said my take on korra and her time as avatar is that she spent half of her time thus far cleaning up the messes of her predecessors. (or rather things that can be traced back to said past avatars.

season 1's issues can be traced back to aangs unfinished business.

season 2 can be traced straight back to wan

season 3 is dealing with the outcome of her decision

season 4 is the result of the outcome of the outcome

as for aang he wasnt running to the south he was just running he only ended up in the south because his berg drifted into the south at some point

Dang. Nice.

And as thematic battles/series go, both ATLA and LOK work for their select groups or eras.

ATLA: Straight up world-building adventure of Good vs Evil.

LOK: The next gen tackle the new world of ATLA with varying shades of grey where Korra has 99 problems but getting a girl ain't one.

...Sorry but I couldn't resist. :p

Well, Korra had its ups and downs.

I can't say it didn't have its problems, but on the whole it was an great series.

8/10.

Also, Asami?

I know people shipped it, and I could kinda see where they were coming from, but I was still surprised.

Well, congrats and good luck to the two of them I suppose.

Pretty close to this graph using IMDB ratings.

The lowest rated episode at 6.4 was Rememberances.

I very much like that graph because it quantifies the general reception to each Season.

The 1st was well recieved but not outstanding.

The second was up and down in quality.

The 3rd started great and only got better.

The 4th managed to keep up that momentum and end very well.
