While he has decent technical skill he's still an idiot for going to the scrapyard for parts. He trashed the knuckle the connects the steering before, i fixed it. Against my advice he brought me a used knuckle.

Why did I buy him another car again?

moment of sibling affection that got properly squashed soon after???

Maybe. He still has to pay me though.
i would make him pay in full, hell my little borther is still paying me back for my truck that he caused to explode.

why in the seven hells would he buy parts from a fucking scrapyard, thats the absolute worst place to buy parts even if you can't see damage on a part you buy from there, i got 9 out of 10 odds that the part is damaged in some way shape or form.

i really have to agree with yall, basically what he is doing amounts to me going up to a random helicoptor crash and taking a rotor blade saying that it will work perfectly on the military helicoptor i repair and using it on that helicoptor.

The only original part i have left in my motor would be the block.

Cams, crankshaft, cylinder head, oilpan, sump and compressor. Evem the harness, fuel pump, ecu and o2 sensor.

I had them all thoroughly checked before installation.

Steering i'll admit I laxed on...

Actually, both myself, and my father, who was a mechanic when alive, went on occasion for car parts at a scrapyard. HOWEVER, we both agreed, we never purchased any car parts that were critical to running of the car. An example of an acceptable part is a a rear windshield wiper motor, or a passenger side door glass window, moldings, dash parts, etc... I think the most critical part we ever got was a carburator or starter, cannot remember which, but we had the old one to swap parts with.

Hmmm... this is interesting... A few posts above this statement, he says the crank has already been replaced... A crank should not need replacing all that often, what the heck is wrong with the crank? Is that from a scrapyard as well?

If so, I doubt most mechanics would have installed it. A fully inspected and refurbished one with a warantee I could see, I remember my father doing so twice when I helped him rebuild some engines a number of years ago, but not anything else.

For that matter, what is the exact car and engine that he has? It may have been mentioned, but I can't remember.

The parts (sans compressor and pump) came from a car i worked on personally. I love my car and would not mistreat it in any way.

My car is an 85 Levin. 4age motor. Swapped the original head for a 20v and installed a compressor.

And the pistons are original as well, replaced the rings recently.

I assumed he was being an idiot and got a junk crank

Ahhh...

Now I understand your obsession (not that I agree with your views mind you, but I understand)... so much of your tone and what you said makes sense from my perspective now.

I once had a automatic 1988 Corolla type AE92 Wagon.

So... ever road race it?

Either way, I bet you would love reading 'After Evangelion The Shinji Chronicles' by Nighthawk Imac

4AG Owners Club usually takes a trip to suzuka or tsukuba for time attack trials. Mine only makes 200HP at the crank, most of my blood and tears went to suspension.

I got the compressor from an AE92 GTZ actually.

I might have to replace the guages (already have a new tachometer), they're the original digital ones and the refresh rate is slow

Wait. What about my views?

For a car like that, and considering that is technically part of the drive parts, I am almost horrified you are going to a scrapyard for any part remotely related to drivability.

It is bad enough for a stock car that people take around town, but in a supped up car... it is worse.

I can see your point. But after I do anything I usually have it checked out by Carland86 (they specialize and restore them) or my sister... I would go to my brother but he's an asshole.

I have tight budget although the majority of my money goes to the car, I can't necessarily afford new parts. ...I always buy a set of slightly used tires for the rear wheels when I go to the track.

HachiROCK Festival. Sort of related last meeting

This just happened to me today.

My truck had been making some noise so I went to my local car place to have it checked out. I gave them my keys and waited. When the mechanic tried to open the door, he turned too hard and broke the key right off.

Then I had to wait an hour for the locksmith (appointment only place IIRC) to get here, and my friend to get here with the spare ,and get it out. Fortunately, I didn't have to pay for the locksmith's services.

When my truck was finally inspected, it was found that the fan belt pulley thing was loose and it was easy to fix.
