Madara died because ripping out a biju(Tentails in this istance) out of its jinchuriki is sure death.
Like Kishimoto couldn't have come up with some excuse to save him. That whole story arc was full of asspull after asspull, and Obito had to die like three times before it actually stuck.

Black Zetsu erasing the Hyuuga's records of Hamura. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. That fucker already rewrote half of ninja history as it is, why not have him screw with yet another ninja clan?

If The Last was a side story chapter instead of a movie:

Konoha celebrate the Rinne Festival - the equivalent of New Years - a few months after the Fourth Great Shinobi War as the beginning of a new age and marking the complete reconstruction of their destroyed village. It is customary to give gifts as well. The story is simply Hinata working up the courage to give Naruto her hand-knit scarf which she does and Naruto, newly conscious of her after all the help she gave him during the war, is happy to accept it. Then he asks her out on a date to get some ramen and the rest is history.

A side-story doesn't need to include any action even if it belongs to a battle manga unlike a film which needs to satisfy its viewers. So the entire poorly-conceived plot of The Last would be completely unnecesary and there would be no need to butcher canon with it. And despite how drawn out the romance was between Naruto and Hinata was, if only because it somehow took two freaking years for anything to happen, it really should have been the simplest thing to set in motion.

Oh well.

Your idea for the Last reminds me of that one Tenchi Movie: Tenchi Forever. I heard it was different from the rest because it wasn't an sci-fi action adventure romp but more of an adult drama.

I really feel that shoulda been how the relationship movie shoulda been but this is Shounen. :huh.:

From what I remember (it's been years since I dug out my TM! dvds) there was a little action, but only near the end.

But yeah, most definitely an adult drama.

Tenchi was brainwashed into having a sexual relationship with a spirit haunting her Jurian Tree.

That's about as Adult Drama as you can get.

The worst part is that I actually liked some of the ideas presented in the movie. Such as the moon ninja who will judge humanity after a thousand years for betraying the ideals of the Sage of Six Paths, and the idea of the Byakugan having a powered up form comparable to the Mangekyou and/or Rinnegan. It's a shame the movie screwed up the implementation of those ideas so badly. Kishimoto should have explored those ideas in the Naruto Gaiden and actually put in the time and effort to make them good, instead of the lazy plot he came up with involving that loser Shin and his dumb clone army.

Just got around to watching this movie, and it wasn't bad.

Some things worth mentioning though

-Hinata, you're a ninja, how the hell can you forget you can run on walls!?
-If the Hidden Cloud had used their Chakra cannons in the war, it would've ended sooner.
-Konoha has the least effective anti-meteor defense, if it weren't for Sasuke's cameo.
-Why is blowing up the moon always an option?
-That damn kiss, the final nail to the NaruHina's victory float.

It wasn't bad, but it's not that great either. I question the logic behind adding "save the world" in a supposed to be love story between Naruto and Hinata, but I guess something like that is somehow needed in a Naruto movie. Kinda reminds me of old filipino action movies, only the romance is supposed to be the main thing but there's action and gunfights and the cops coming in late.

The save the world thing was for the Shounen crowd. No way was this gonna be a straight love story after shounen movie after shounen movie.

I'd've actually prefer is it was a straight romance. Then it wouldn't have introduced a stupid antagonist that wouldn't get punished for nearly killing all life on the planet.

Edit- there's a rainbow next to the topic, what does it mean!?

Yeah, It would've have been shorter, but at least it would've been more meaningful. Heck, they could've included how Sakura and Sasuke hooked up, which is, like, the question on everyone's minds at the moment.

Exactly. If there's gonna be a love story, do it straight and do it in a way that doesn't force it to be bloated shounen shenanigans.

:hmm:

Naruto Gaiden could have been a collection of one-shot chapters set in the New Era with one them having Boruto and Himawari ask their parents how they first got together, reminiscent of Naruto asking Kushina, and showing the story like that. I would have taken that over The Last and Naruto Hiden.

I just realised they will go the Dragon Ball Super way and turn the movies and the Gaiden into a new series

But Gaiden's already a series...? Well, I'm not familiar with Dragon Ball Super anyway.

If there's a continuation then I expect that it will be after another time skip to continue the parallels and since showing Boruto and the rest as teenagers would probably spark a lot more interest.

If that happens, think Bolt will be as oblivious as his old man was when it comes to women?

I would bow down if the first chapter just casually mentions that Boruto and Sarada are going out. No drama or anything, it's just a natural part of the scenery.

I can dream, right?

Oh c'mon Knight, reasonable romance not in some way involving a world ending scenario in shonen is just not possible.

That still has the "save the world" thing, so no.

Well, he seems subconsciously aware of Sarada, but the only thing holding them back is the whole 'rival' and 'childhood friend' labels. It would probably take a work of god to get them to realize that they have feelings for each other though...

So basically, Naruto needs to give Sarada and Boruto The Talk?

Transforming into a Sexy version of your own son and your best friend's daughter would be beyond creepy. If Naruto did that Sasuke would beat him to within an inch of his life, and Sakura and Hinata would probably cheer him on.

Which, upon inspection, is exactly what Naruto would do.

But yes. The movie (which I watched in theaters) was a flop, but a flop with potential. I'm already planning AUs with the ideas of moon people and judges and chakra cannons and rockets.

@ the person who mentioned Cloud's chakra cannons, I suppose they rolled as a foreshadow to the technological blast that was chap 700.
