Bleach Reflection

Continuing Rock's last snippet:

A burst of light temporarily blinded Hitsugaya, and he growled as he squinted. The light faded as the boy's reiatsu seemed to double in size. Smoke and dust obscured him, but finally parted-Allowing a gigantic dragon made of ice and water to rocket out right for him.

"What the-?!" Hitsugaya focused his spiritual energy and blocked the copy of one of his signature attacks, grunting in exertion at the spirit force behind it. The dragon continued to rocket into his blade, dispersing into the surrounding atmosphere, and finally vanished entirely. Hitsugaya growled and looked around.

"Don't move," said a slightly shaky voice behind him. Hitsugaya gritted his teeth. He knew this tactic-He'd used it against Gin. The little bastard had gotten behind him!

"Look, I know you think I'm using Hinamori or something, but come on," Makoto said, exasperated. His released sword was pointed at Hitsugaya's head, another giant ice dragon ready to fly if it had to as indicated by the small dragon symbol now etched onto the blade. "What could Aizen have to gain from doing this?"

He scowled. "There's also the fact of the matter that I hate that smiling bastard as much as you do."

"Why should I believe you?" Hitsugaya asked flatly. "Aizen himself was just one big charade, a puppeteer. He's also patient. Patient enough to find a use for someone like you."

"Maybe... But I also know that you killing me isn't going to help Hinamori. Or help me either, since I'll be, ya know... Dead."

"You're a goddamned pawn at best, and Aizen himself at worse," Hitsugaya snarled. Makoto gritted his teeth.

"Then give me a chance to prove myself!"

"Never again..."

"Then it seems we have a problem, huh?" Makoto asked.

Umm... while I like the idea that Makoto's powers are a copy of Aizen's, it makes more sense that, if he really is a different person, that his powers and sword spirit are all different. I can see him starting out with a Kyouka Suigetsu variant, but later on, if he establishes his own identity, he probably should get his own Zanpakuto.

Yeah, we could work with that.

-----
"So, you're the boy with my face."

Makoto's struggles ceased, and as he looked up he finally took notice of where he was. The chamber was massive, white walls stretching up so high to meet a ceiling so far up and blindingly white he could hardly see it. And there, sitting in front of him, was the man who had simultaneously created him, and destroyed his life.

"Aizen Sousuke..."

The man's lips didn't change from his ever present smirk, but somehow Makoto could feel that he was geniunely amused. "Ah, so you've heard of me? That certainly makes explaining things easier." His condescending expression, and the vague aura of menace Makoto had felt since arriving in Las Noches didn't change. "How was Soul Society? Did you find the people there as...amusing as I do?"

Makoto scowled, and finally managed to pull himself free of the Arrancar holding him. "No, I didn't. And why do you want to know, anyway?"

Aizen raised an eyebrow. "You mean you haven't realized? As a perfect clone me me--no, as a clone of my soul, you should feel the same way as I do about people. And yet, you imply that you do not feel amusement about the petty squabbles of those in Soul Society. Can you really claim that? Can you really say that you can't feel the urge to silence their childish voices, to stand above them--above God?"

The smile, again. "No, Kikanuma Makoto, I know you as well as you know yourself. Better, in fact. And I know, that inside you, is the urge to--"

"Shut up."

The smile never wavered. "What was that?"

"I said, 'Shut up!' " For the first time, his eyes met Aizens. "So I'm a clone of you. It look me a long time to come to grips with that, but it's okay. Really, I couldn't care less. All it means is that we had the same starting point. Who you are doesn't indicate who I'll become, now or ever."

He pulled himself as tall as his slight frame allowed. All present could feel the gathering of reiatsu, could feel the boy preparing for an attack. Several lesser Arrancar tried to step forward, only to be blasted by Aizen's focused reiatsu. He leaned back on his throne, patient to see what his fascinating clone was preparing.

Makoto ground his teeth, infuriated by Aizen's condescension. "Aizen--YOU DON'T KNOW ME AT ALL!!!" he roared, bringing up his hands. "Shine, Hikari no Shinjitsu (Light of Truth)!"

And the light was glorious.
----

Just my thoughts. He wants to be his own person, and he is his own person. He just needed a chance to realize that. ^_^

After this scene, the SS crew and Karakura assault team should hit the place (Makoto taken in place of 'hime? :huh.: ), and follow canon.

Or maybe not. Who knows?

Round Robin time!!!

-------

"Yeah.....we have a problem...." Hitsugaya growled out. He dropped low, sweeping Makoto's feet out from under him, and spun Hyorinmaru around to point it down as the boy fell. "You're not dead yet!!!" The frigid captain screamed, thrusting his sword straight down.

Makoto felt everything slow to a crawl as he looked up at the rapidly descending sword. He could see Vice-Captain Matsumoto starting to move in his peripheral vision, but she wouldn't make it in time.

He could feel Ichigo and Urahara-san's reiatsu flaring, but Hitsugaya was too blinded by his rage for it to matter. For a fleeting instant, Makoto felt sad for him. It was obvious Hitsugaya was in love with Hinamori, as was shown by his rabid need to kill him for her.

Hinamori had told him in her blind trust in him that she only saw Hitsugaya as a brother, so he could relate. God knows how many times Tatsuki-chan had socked him in the face for annoying her. The icy captain was so devoted to his friend that he was blind to his vice-captain's feelings for him, as frowned upon as they were.

Time sped up as he heard Hinamori scream in fear. "SHIRO-CHAN, NO!!!!" He made up his mind and started to roll. That choice saved his life as he'd moved enough to just take the blade in the shoulder. It still hurt like hell, though. As such he screamed in pain.

As Hyorinmaru pierced Makoto's shoulder, Matsumoto had covered the distance, tackling her captain to the ground. The other three were there seconds later, as Hinamori carefully removed Hyorinmaru, crying hysterically into his chest.

Urahara and Ichigo stood there simply watching, ready in case Hitsugaya tried something. At the moment, he was trying to get out of his vice-captain's grip.

"Calm down, Taicho, please!" Matsumoto said, tears beginning to form in her own eyes. She hated seeing her captain like this. He was usually so in control of himself.

"NO! HE HAS TO DIE!!! DAMMIT, MATSUMOTO, LET ME GO!!" He screamed. She simply held him down tighter. She couldn't let him do any more harm than he already had, but he'd had enough. He wrenched his arm free and backhanded her off of him, and a handspring later, he was on his feet.

She tumbled off of him, holding her cheek. She stared at him with a devastated look on her face as she let the tears she was holding back run free. He'd never hit her in his anger before. She didn't know what to do, and did what any other woman would. She broke down.

Hitsugaya stomped over to Makoto and Hinamori ready to crush the bastard's skull, but Hinamori was up and blocking his way. "You won't hurt him. I won't let you!"

He glared at her. "Momo, out of my way." He growled out. "NO!" she cried. He snarled. "Damn it, Momo! He's hypnotised you! Again! I have to end th-" SLAP~

Hitsugaya staggered back from the slap, not expecting it. He put his hand to his face, and looked at Hinamori with a disbelieving look on his face. "Momo...."

"NO! No more! If you're gonna do this every time you see him, I don't ever want to see you again!!!!" she screamed, and he reeled back as if slapped again. She turned back to Ichigo and Urahara. "Kurosaki-kun. Urahara-san. Help me get him some medical attention.....please." she whispered.

Ichigo nodded, and bent down to pick to boy up, who was surprisingly quiet. He looked over to Hitsugaya, who had fallen to his knees with a blank look on his face. He turned to where Matsumoto had been. She'd already left. He turned to Urahara, who shook his head sadly. They turned away from the lost looking captain and left him to himself in the underground training area, focused on getting the boy to Ururu so she could patch him up.

------

Eh. Kinda angsty, but I figure that Makoto would cause a lot of problems for Hitsugaya before the end.

I can't believe nobody posted a few    icons for AJT's latest idea.

So what's the inspiration behind this concept and the OC who takes the spotlight away from the canon characters? If you're not careful, people may file the character under the Gary Stu profile or something...

I think there's a certain test that allows you to check if your original character is too much of a Gary Stu but I can't remember where it is.

EDIT: If this guy's a regular otaku, he should try and attempt to pull off fictional super moves and techniques from random titles in real battle. If anything, it'll be good for mucho laughs.

"Um... quick question. Do you know how much super meter you need to build up in Soul Society to go for a 100% custom combo?"

Espilion has a point, I must admit...Also, I think that this fic could go two ways, a la Knights of the Old Republic: Makoto could be a good guy, and atone for Aizen's sins, or take his place as the big villain. And for his Zanpakuto? Hmmm...Something that fits his geek persona...I smell a lightsaber-type weapon!

@Epsilon: Thanks for the  s, people seem to be forgetting to add them to my threads. Inspiration? Well, I was Aizen for Halloween this year and people complimented how in-character I was, which started the thought-process of a teenaged Aizen.

As for the spotlight and threat of Gary Stu-ness: That only happens if the entire universe begins to revolve around him. He serves as a means to explore nature versus nurture. Or to try and bring resolution between Hinamori and Aizen, or Hitsugaya and Hinamori. Or to explore Aizen himself. Or dozens of other concepts and stories. It doesn't replace the main characters if you use him to explore the other main characters or concepts in the series. And yes, I do know of the Mary Sue litmus test. The character isn't fully fleshed out yet-If he was, this thread would be in Previews. It's for everyone to contribute, speculate and play around with this character, so we can see what we can do with him.

I wouldn't have him save the day, mind you, were I to write this story. He may have been cloned from Aizen and he may have a lot of potential as a Shinigami, but bottom-line is that he doesn't have anywhere near the experience of the real Aizen or of nearly any other Shinigami. He has a a steep learning curve but not as steep as Ichigo's because he isn't Ichigo. He isn't solely focused on the goal of getting stronger, he isn't out to rule the world or protect everyone-He's trying to figure out just what and who the hell he is and trying to do some good in this crazy world filled with people who hate him and would like to kill him because of how he was created.

The round robin thing is just because it's fun to explore the concept that way. Speaking of...

- - - - - - -

"Yes... That was brilliant, really," Not-Aizen spoke wryly in the mindscape. Makoto scowled at him. He couldn't bring himself to think of his sword's spirit as 'Gogo'-He knew what it was, but it clashed so deeply with the image of it's spirit.

"Shut up! Nobody asked you!"

"Makoto, if you continue to fight like Kurosaki, you're just going to get destroyed," Not-Aizen continued, looking vaguely amused. "You can't just go toe to toe with a captain after achieving shikai. You're not that kind of fighter."

"What, you just pulled me in here to berate me?" Makoto asked. Not-Aizen sighed.

"No, I brought you in because you passed out. You heal faster when you're unconscious-All Shinigami do." Not-Aizen raised his eyebrows.

"I didn't take you for the suicidal type, you know..."

"I wasn't! I just..." Makoto sighed, and sat down, wrapping his arms around his knees. He glared glumly out at the flows of water surrounding them.

"... I was trying to make him understand... Understand that I wasn't out to kill him. That I'm not that guy..."

"Next time, try to do so after he's been subdued," Not-Aizen observed wryly. "Had it not been for Hinamori and his vice-captain, he would no doubt have gone all out. And you and I would have been quite handily obliterated."

"I just... I don't get it," Makoto sighed. "Why did he do all this? What's his goal?" He glared in anger. "And why the hell does he have to screw up so many lives in the process? Including mine!"

"I can't speak to that and be assured I was accurate," Not-Aizen said. "But, there is a certain... Mindset to it. Seeing everything as malleable, as relative. Seeking control and mastery of the unknown." Not Aizen smiled unpleasantly.

"But then... There are those who have the ability to gain such power, and use it for no other reason than that they can. They see the top and wish to be there, and see the process as a challenge."

Makoto looked at his sword's spirit. Not-Aizen shrugged.

"There is no free lunch, Makoto. All endeavors, all ambitions have their price. Aizen will pay it when the time comes. The question is... What is your ambition?" His eyes glinted curiously. "And what price are you willing to pay for it?"

"... I... I don't know," Makoto admitted. He frowned thoughtfully. "All I know is that... Is that I want to be involved. Somehow, someway. I'm in this world now and I've got to find a place in it... For better or worse."

And hey, isn't ANYONE at all going to comment on my piece? Unless I miss my guess, it's the first real piece for any fandom that I've done since I joined TFF.

The Eva/Big O thing was just a joke. Come on, I want to know how I did~.

Grammar seems fine.

I liked it. I'd like to see more even more though. ^__^

And while I don't have pictures from this year, I went as Aizen to NDK last year, so here's a pic:

I'm smack dab in the center. I'd have worn the sandals but they killed my feet.

@RockLee: Thanks! I'm glad you liked it, and hope you didn't suffer death from mint-chocolate chip icecream. That would be a new death attributed to my stories. Also, care to continue the round robin?

Lets gives this a shot.

----------------------------------
Makoto would be the first one to tell you he was a nerd. Not an otaku mind you, but he was nerd enough to see a pattern forming in the story Kurosaki was telling him and ones he realized it all just clicked in head the words just came out. "God its a gender flipped Magical Girl series." "What?", asked a confused Ichigo.
"Well think about: Mysterious Protector saves pretty blonde...," "My hear is orange" Not my point, anyway, Muggle from The Heartless, but gives up their powers to the rescuee. The now awesomely powerful person joins the crusade to purify human souls that have become monsters after losing themselves to darkness and is assisted in transforming by a cute animal sidekick. The more you think about it the more it makes sense.
"O.K., ya that makes.... hay wait a minute how do you know so much about Magical Girls shows?" asked an irate Ichigo not liking ware this train of thought was going.

"umm....", was all Makoto could say.

More to come if you all like it.

Let's see here.....How about seeing how Hitsugaya's doing.

------

Hey....Hitsugaya.....Helloooo? Hyorinmaru was at a loss. His wielder had been sitting in the now empty training area for the past half hour, just sitting on his knees. He was pretty sure the white haired boy couldn't feel his legs. Not like he cared.

C'mon, Hitsugaya! Snap out of it! Nothing. The spirit didn't know what to do. He'd tried yelling at the boy, insulting him, insulting his friends, telling jokes, DIRTY jokes even. Nothing.

Toushiro.....Please.....Say something.... The captain of the tenth division looked over at the dragon, as he'd finally opened up his mindscape. "She.....doesn't.....wanna see....me again...." he said. Hyorinmaru was frightened by how dead his wielder's eyes looked.

"Toushiro, I hate to say it....but you weren't really being rational." A flash of anger passed through Hitsugaya's eyes at that sentence. He glared at the frozen dragon. "Momo wasn't being rational! That guy was using her! I know it! Why else would he look so much like HIM!" he snarled out.

The dragon roared in anger, not happy that his friend was being so stupid. "You're letting your anger blind you, you moron! The boy acted nothing like that traitor! HE WAS RUNNING AWAY FROM YOU!"

Toushiro stopped fuming at that. "Really?" he asked, sounding unsure of himself. "YES!! Do you really think that AIZEN would RUN from you?!" the spirit cried. Hitsugaya had to agree with that. Aizen wasn't a fool, nor was he a coward. He had taken Hitsugaya down in one shot. This boy.....Makoto.....ran like a chicken with his head cut off.

"Now do you see?" the dragon asked. Hitsugaya nodded slowly, grimacing. He had made a grave mistake. He had nearly killed an innocent person.....and...."Oh, god....." he gasped out. At this Hyorinmaru stared hard at him. "What?" he asked.

The pained look on Toushiro's face was troubling enough. The fact that his eyes were beginning to shine with unshed tears was even more troubling. Toushiro never cried. "What?" the dragon asked again.

"I hurt Matsumoto." he said. Toushiro curled his knees up to his chest and buried his head in his arms. "I hurt Matsumoto." he whispered. He had never laid a hand on her in anger. Until now. He had probably just lost two of the closest friends.....no.....his only two friends. He was too frigid and distant with everyone else to be friends. Nobody could stand his attitude. He sobbed into his arms, crying for the first time in centuries.

"I hurt Matsumoto!" he repeated, sobbing uncontrollably. He had no reason not to cry. He had destroyed his only friendships. Hyorinmaru hung his head. He couldn't help his wielder now. This was something he couldn't help fight. So, he shimmered out of view.

------

Hitsugaya isn't stupid. But I think he has a tough time controlling his emotions, as he acts so professional and stuck up so much.

By the way, Talon. When I log off later tonight, I won't be back on for a good two weeks. My mom has to send in the laptop to get fixed. We think the motherboard is going out, as we've lost the internal speakers AND the wireless internet connector. I don't know what I'm gonna do without my TFF.... :blue:

#39
Aw nuts Rock. That sucks. Well, I'll await your return. And I'll get another bit out now.

Though I don't think Hitsugaya would have gotten all weepy like that. He'd more than likely blow shit up to get out his rage and sorrow, try to regain himself. And then go talk to Hinamori and Matsumoto and try to apologize. He does keep his emotions under tight control, even when he would probably be better served by letting them out once in a while.

- - - - -

"Gah... My head..." Makoto blinked woozily. "Why does my head hurt?"

"No idea," Ichigo said dryly. Makoto's eyes widened and he jerked away from the scary, orange head to appear in his vision.

"GAH! Don't do that!"

Ichigo sighed.

Makoto groaned, slowly sitting up. He felt the bandages on his shoulder.

"How long have I...?"

Ichigo shrugged. "Few hours. Momo was crying over you for the last few, but I convinced her to get some sleep."

"Oh thank God," Makoto sighed. Ichigo raised an eyebrow, and Makoto coughed.

"Ah, it's just... When she's been sneaking into my bed for the last couple of weeks...?"

"Well... Rukia does that too, occassionally," Ichigo observed wryly. Makoto sighed, and put his hands over his eyes, rubbing them.

"Gah... Forget about loose women. Shinigami women are scary. Hell, Shinigami in general are scary."

"Not all of them," Ichigo said. He thought about it. "... All the time, anyway."

"If he's this bad, then what are the rest of them going to be like when they find out about me?" Makoto asked. He sighed and closed his eyes.

"Well, I have determined that you are not a threat to them, so long as they don't attack you first."

Both Shinigami turned to look at the entrance to the room. Urahara stood there, hand resting on his cane loosely.

"So... I'm not some kind of ticking time bomb, then?" Makoto asked. Urahara smirked.

"Not a literal one, anyway... I'm afraid that Soul Society's usual reaction to things it could perceive as a threat is usually rather... Violent. Still... I do have some pull with others..."

"But considering what they did to the Vaizard, Sandal Hat, you wanna risk it?" Ichigo asked flatly. Urahara chuckled.

"Got it in one, Kurosaki."

"So what do I do?" Makoto asked. Urahara hummed.

"Well... We have a few options. I could put you into a gigai that would eventually completely suppress all your spiritual energy and render you powerless."

Makoto made a face. "What? No. I'm here in this world now... Becoming powerless just means I can't do squat when all hell breaks loose. What's another?"

"Another is that I give you the means to subtly alter your spiritual signature and fingerprint, to make sure that it is far more difficult to identify your origin."

"That sounds better!" Makoto said happily. Ichigo nodded.

"Yeah. Probably for the best."

"They'll still wonder where you came from though, Kikanuma... And there is the matter of your physical resemblance to Aizen," Urahara pointed out quietly. Makoto blinked, then grimaced. Ichigo followed suit.

"Oh damnit...!"

"But! Since Hinamori is already declared, er... Unstable," Urahara said delicately, "her testimony will not hold much water. No, it will be up to Captain Hitsugaya and Vice-Captain Matsumoto to stick with the story."

"... I'm doomed, aren't I?" Makoto asked. Ichigo sighed and bopped him on the head.

"OW! Hey!"

"Don't say shit like that," Ichigo growled. He stood up. "We're going to talk to Toushiro... Straighten him out. He'll see reason."

"And if he doesn't?" Makoto asked, slowly getting up as well. Ichigo shrugged.

"There's always Bankai."

"Ah... Please, Kurosaki... Not in my store," Urahara said delicately, as Ichigo led Makoto back towards the door to the training area.

Well, everybody has a breaking point. I just figured that after alienating his only two friends(in his head any way), he'd sit down and cry for a bit. Doesn't mean that he isn't gonna blow shit up to vent, it's just he does it after his breakdown. They'll most likely find him passed out downstairs.

Anywho....

------

Orohime had seen plenty of people cry. She'd cried plenty herself. Mostly over Kurosaki-kun, but that's neither here nor there. She had never seen Matsumoto-san cry before. Which was why she was at a loss to her current situation.

About two to three hours ago, she had answered her door to find the older woman bawling her eyes out, babbling incoherently. It had taken her a good half hour and most of her mint-chocolate chip ice cream(she didn't know why people didn't like the flavor), before she was able to get the shinigami under control.

"I just can't(snif) believe he hit me...." Matsumoto said, before blowing her nose rather loudly and comically. 'That wasn't very nice of me...' Orohime thought. She swallowed the bite of ice cream she had before speaking. "Well....he has repressed his feelings about Aizen's betrayal rather forcefully..." she replied slowly. "It doesn't help that Hinamori-san is a bit.....lost....yeah, that's it." Orohime didn't like to think of people as crazy. It just didn't seem fair to the person suffering.

"It's Hinamori's fault(hic)!" Matsumoto said forcefully. But then she moaned pitifully and buried her head in her friends shoulder. "No, that's not fair to her(snif). Aizen had all of us fooled. It's (hic) his fault." she said, her voice muffled. Orohime rubbed her back soothingly.

"I don't think he'd do it on purpose. He just doesn't have a very constructive outlet for his anger, and Makoto-san does look a lot like Aizen. But I know for a fact that he's a nice person. Tatsuki-chan doesn't seem to like him, though...." Orohime said, trailing off.

"I know! I don't know what to do though. Should I confront him about it? Should I tell him how I feel? No, I can't do that. Yamato-soutaicho would never allow it." the woman cried pitifully.

Orohime was torn. She understood that it would be frowned upon for Matsumoto to date her boss, but it wasn't fair to her to keep those feelings to herself. 'Oh, what should I say? What would Kurosaki-kun say?' she wondered, thinking of her secret love. She wasn't really the one to talk to about this. She was in the same boat as Matsumoto-san.

Orohime puffed her cheeks in thought. 'Kurosaki-kun would probably be blunt and say to beat Hitsugaya-san over the head and knock some sense into him.' She rolled her eyes at that. It's no wonder he seemed so at home in battle, despite the fact that he wouldn't admit it.

She hugged her friend tightly. "Don't worry, Matsumoto-san. We'll figure something out." she said. 'I promise.'

------

A little bonding between girlfriends. Because after living with her for a while, I'm sure that Rangiku and Orohime are really close.

Gah. Always the tough questions. ;)

Character interaction, some combat training and a little remedial Shinigami theory, a serious take on the Zanpakuto, its name and its abilities - which are interrelated.

The only things that haven't worked for me thus far are Gogo's name and ability and the one-dimensional Hitsugaya.

Wait, this is crack?

Hitsugaya's and Matsumoto's reactions are...well...strange, to say the least; not to mention that Hinamori's arrival is sort of awkward since she is a security risk. I'm surprised she managed to get out of Seireitei without the alarm being raised. I'm also surprised she's upright, as I recall her still being in the 4th Division.

I can't really comment on the OC.

Hitsugaya couldn't make heads or tails of this Aizen look-a-like. He was spouting off random abilities that had no relevance to him gutting the little bastard. Matsumoto was trying to keep him from killing the boy, but wasn't doing a good job as she was currently on the ground laughing.

"Honestly, what the hell does CAKE BAKING have to do with our battle?!" Hitsugaya screamed. Matsumoto only laughed harder.

------

Meh.
You have much to learn about character twinking if you chose 'Cake Baking' over the obvious twink skill of choice.

Animal Husbandry.

Well, truth be told neither Gogo or Hitsugaya's portrayal have appealed to me either, though you have to admit he would be pretty goddamned pissed if he found out Aizen had a clone. Or Hinamori (who escaped because she's a kido mistress, and seriously, everyone and their mother can break out of a Soul Society cell) was trying to turn said clone into a new Aizen. And he does have a bad temper, attacking a fellow captain (Gin) while Soul Society is under invasion.

I do like your idea for a zanpakuto- "Kyougetsu" -as water type zanpakuto are indeed very cool. So let's see what we can do with Kyougetsu. Conjuring mists that he can use to confuse opponents is a good start-He'd be kind of like Zabuza from Naruto that way, especially if the mist can alter the perception of sound, smell and reiatsu.

A short bit that came to me. Makoto's zanpakuto starting out as an illusion/hypnosis type is probably best, at least until Makoto establishes his own identity. That, or his zanpakuto's ability works in a different way than Aizen's to accomplish the same things, but this method can be adjusted to do other things as well.

"So, feeling any aches? Pains? Soreness?" Captain Unohana asked the young man kindly. Makoto looked at the Fourth Division captain in mild irritation.

"No... I'm fine. Really. Fit as a fiddle... Right?"

"Well, all of your tests came back negative, your reiatsu is at an extremely impressive level for someone your age, and you otherwise seem to be in perfect health."

"Great. Good. Can I leave now please?" Makoto asked. Unohana raised an eyebrow, which made Makoto very self conscious.

"I'm just... I-I don't like... Hospitals," he admitted. Unohana smiled.

"That's a perfectly natural reaction. It's not very easy for people to be vulnerable in front of a stranger and let them touch them."

"That, and, you know... Soul Society. Aizen clone. People wanting to kill me," Makoto said dryly. Unohana merely shook her head, more than a little experienced with smartass patients.

"There's no need for so much apprehension. Captains Hitsugaya, Ukitake and Kyoraku spoke quite eloquently on your behalf to Captain-General Yamamoto."

"Yes... After the first almost froze me to death," Makoto said dryly. Unohana ruffled his hair, making him scowl.

"Hey!"

"Come now... You shouldn't scowl so much," Unohana said. "While it looks cute on Kurosaki, it does not suit you."

"I... I try not to smile a lot," Makoto admitted.

"Because it makes you look more like him?" Unohana asked gently. Makoto sighed, and nodded.

"Yeah..."

"My belief is that if you wish to smile, smile. If you wish to frown, then frown. But don't force yourself into deviations of character," Unohana consoled him. "More people than you think believe you are you, and not Aizen."

"Well... Thanks Doctor... Er, Captain," Makoto said, smiling just a little. Unohana smiled back, and handed him his zanpakuto.

"You should hurry, I expect that the gate to the Living World will open soon for Inoue to return home."

"Cool. Thanks again!" With that, Makoto leaped out a nearby window, vanishing into flashstep to get to the gate. Unohana watched him go with a serene look, and then sighed.

"Sousuke... So many lives destroyed, all for your goal... Will you think it worth it in the end?"

"So, wait? What's the rush?" Makoto asked as he entered the gateway into the corridor between worlds, quickly catching up to Orihime and her escort. One of the shinigami stared at him, as Orihime answered.

"The Espada are attacking again! We've got to get there!"

"Right!" Makoto agreed with a grin, picking up the pace. "We'll show them that-!"

A massive spiritual pressure entered the tunnel, and all four running stopped. Makoto turned around, as a garganta opened up behind them. His eyes widened at the pale, familiar form that emerged, hands in his pockets, clownish face utterly without emotion.

"It is fortunate you two were together," Ulquiorra stated. "It makes my job easier. I have business with you two."

"Gah! Get back, you two!" One of the two shinigami serving escort shouted, drawing his sword with his partner. "We'll handle-ARGGHH!"

Makoto and Orihime both looked on in horror as the shinigami exploded into gore, falling to the ground. The second gaped at this, but turned and snarled at the Espada.

"You bas-AUGH!"

He too fell, shattered into bloody pieces. Makoto gulped. He'd seen gore before, sure, but so close... So sudden...

I couldn't see him attack...!

He turned back to Ulqiorra, fingers drumming nervously on the hilt of Kyougetsu.

"Souten Kishun! I reject!" Orihime cried out, her fairies quickly forming a healing barrier around the two injured Shinigami. Makoto smiled nervously at the Arrancar.

"So... You have... Business, with us?" He asked.

"That's right... I have business with you both."

"MAKOTO! RUN! RUN AWAY!" Orihime screamed. Makoto winced as the Arrancar looked past him.

"You can regenerate injuries that extensive? Impressive," Ulquiorra said.

"Yeah, it's something huh?" Makoto asked with false bravado. Ulquiorra's cold eyes bored into him. Orihime turned to speak.

"I-!"

"You will follow me."

"Wha-?" Makoto asked, before being silence by a look.

"Don't speak. You will both say yes-You and the woman. Reply in any other way, and I won't kill you, but..."

Images of Ichigo, Rangiku, Hitsugaya, Yumichika, and Ikkaku, all fighting against other Arrancar, appeared in front of Ulqiorra. Makoto grimaced.

"I will kill your friends. Don't ask anything, don't say anything. You have no rights to anything. The only thing you have, are your hands upon the necks of your friends at the guillotine. Understand this, you two, this is not an negotiation... It's an order."

Makoto glanced back at Orihime, who could only bite her lower lip.

"Lord Aizen desires your power, woman. And you, boy... He simply desires you."

"..." Makoto managed to bite back his sarcastic response to that. Ulquiorra continued.

"I have been instructed to bring you both back, unharmed. I will only say it once more... Follow me."

"..." Makoto continued to drum his fingers on the hilt of his sword. He then smiled. Ulqiorra remained impassive.

"Inoue, get down."

"Wha-?"

Makoto shimmered, revealing a Makoto with his arm outstretched, glowing blue fire in his palm.

"-structive Art 33, Skatsui!"

The kidou spell shot out, slamming into Ulqiorra and engulfing him in the blast. Makoto was blasted back into Inoue, and they both fell to the tunnel floor.

"OOF!"

"Wha-H-How did you-?" Inoue asked. Makoto coughed and groaned.

"Uh... Cast an illusion over myself long enough for me to go through the whole incantation." He waved his hand and grimaced. "Overcharged it too-URK!"

His eyes bulged as he was lifted up, steel-hard hand around his throat. Ulquiorra stood there, appearing utterly unharmed. Orihime gasped in horror.

"Impressive. I did not suspect you could cast such realistic illusions with your sword only partially out of it's scabbard," Ulquiorra spoke calmly. "I was only able to prevent being struck by utilizing a cero at the last second." Ulquiorra glanced at Orihime.

"While Lord Aizen stated you both were to be unharmed... As you are capable of regenerating catastrophic injuries, I could kill him now and still fulfill my objectives."

"GLURK! UUNNK!" Makoto tried, struggling fruitlessly in the Arrancar's grasp.

"One more time, woman... You are coming with me." Ulquiorra stared at Orihime intently. Orihime clenched her fists tightly... And slowly nodded.

"Yes."

Even if Kyougetsu can cast virtually perfect illusions, that's no guarantee of victory. How was that?
