Okay, so Souma and Saitou have butter as ingredient, and they both are going full speed ahead.

What is interesting here is that Megumo, Takumi and Souma intend to support each other during the whole match. Of course, Elite Ten members are dismissive of the whole thing, but we'll see how it goes. The situation seems to be make-or-break for either team here, so I hope the author actually makes this interesting.

...I really don't get everything about that explanation, but if it only affects the taste for the next dish only, then Eizan is way more shrewd then I expected.

If I had to guess, he made his dish less sweet than normal so that when Eizan tried to screw him over it will only help him.

Oh, I'm betting that Eizan just dumped the artichokes into his dish without thinking how it would affect its own flavor. And if it makes the next thing they eat sweeter, than he's made a dish where it gets progressively more saccharine with each bite. I fully expect his artichoke plan to actually fuck up his own dish.

Edit: Huh, never mind. Eizan's screw up is that Aldini might have researched Eizan's methods. So he might have made a more savory pizza, and the artichokes will actually enhance the flavor positively.

Truly, I was grinning like the Joker when I saw just how savage Takumi was being, and it was a master stroke. (that foodgasm killed it dead, though... )

We'll see how it goes in the next chapter, but I'm reasonably certain that Takumi takes this.

But if one of the remaining two does job out in this round then I'm seriously hoping that it's Megumi and not Souma. I don't think my interest in this series can survive another Autumn Election Finals moment right now.

She will win, all common sense that should point to the contrary be damned. Training arc = at least one guaranteed victory, according to the rules of shounen manga. Tsukuda is not known for deviating from the book, either.

Yeah, I'm assuming the translators didn't know what apple butter actually was. It's actually a concentrated version of applesauce, made by a long, slow cooking of the apples in cider. Far greater shelf life than applesauce.
