Man, throwing them all into a big messy pile without any attempts at organization is just such a phenomenally lazy thing to do.
^^--- Agree with this.

Then we have Love Hina/Negima thing. Love Hina section is still getting alot of traffic. And merging those two will not fix anything, just make the new section messy. Just merging them because they seem to share the same universe doesn't make sense.

Because there's no point in having an entire section for a fandom that hasn't had almost anything written for it in nearly two years.

You want to go find something? Go use the search.
So just because there is a search option, there is no need to make the forum an organized place? What kind of logic is that. Why not remove all subsection on the forum in that case?

Seriously, all this seems to either be completely based on laziness, or changing just because of changing.

It seems like new admins just want to flex their new powers. How about adding new Fanfiction sections before removing old once? It's not like annyone has actually complained about the old sections.

Who said they are just going all into the same place? I would assume that Nanoha would also get the ideas, previews, and talk subforums just like every other section gets. Why wouldn't they?

If you have suggestions about where specific threads should go or want to make sure a thread isn't lost in a sea of genericness, talk about it here. If you'd like to try to save a sub-forum, act now, start a thread in Suggestions.
That.

Seriously, this whole removing old sections was based on like what 10-15 people thought. And not all thought it was a good idea.

It was this kind of things I was afraid was going to happen with new board/admins.

Why don't we just move all the less popular and unused subforums into their own header on the main page? That way you could click that little bubble to collapse and hide them if you don't want to look at them.

Heck, is it possible to just make each individual subforum collapsible? Then everyone could essentially customize the main page to their own preferences.

So you're saying we should keep the various sections? Even ones that no one has posted on in YEARS? Because let me tell you, as the guy who actually rallied to get the Super Robot Wars section made in the first place, I looked at it and found absolutely no reason to keep it separate from the Gaming section outside of "Waaah, but I am a fanboy, I want my favorite section to be a special little snowflake!". And that, unfortunately, isn't a valid reason. So I reluctantly let go, because it was for the best.

Those sections just clutter the main page up. When literally just one or two topics are still active, it becomes pointless to keep the whole section. It's like keeping Formula 1 grand prixes around if only Ferrari raced.

As for Negima and LH, they don't just 'seem' to share the same universe, they DO share the same universe. It makes sense to put them together.

I'm pretty sure that just means all the idea subforums will be merged, all the previews, all the talk, etc. Not just merging all three types into one. There is some debate on some threads as to what new section they would belong to for things that have multiple media. I'm pretty sure .Hack is one case. Some stuff is based on games, some based on the anime, maybe some based on manga. So which thread goes where? As for losing things in genericness, that has to do with the thread names. Quite often there is no indication as to what fandom they are for. There may be several Misc Ideas threads, none of which have fandom names in them.

They aren't going to just automatically dump everything into one forum and leave them there. Everything will be sorted out into ideas, previews, and talk just like they are now. This has to be done manually, and will take time to move every thread.

Yeah, basically. Keeping them doesn't hurt anything. I don't like the idea of mixing them all together into one general subforum, because that pretty much axes any possibility that they could ever become popular again. If, say, a sequel to something is released and people want to talk about it again, having all that fandoms old thread being generically titled and buried in a sea of other generically titled fandom threads will put a damper on the new conversation. And if by some miracle people lobby to reinstate a main subforum for that fandom it'll be damn near impossible to pick all the relevent threads out of the pile.

If the only reason to merge them is to unclutter the main page, then putting them together under a collapsible header or moving their old subforums intact one layer deeper into a generic subforum accomplishes the same goal, keeps them organized, requires no manual labor to tag or rename all the threads to fix the problem of generically named threads, and is much easier to undo.

Would the Love Hina universe really have people like Tsukiyomi and Gödel in their Shinmeiryuu? Seems unlikely to me. I have seen no proof that they are the same universe. Have read on various Love Hina sites that it's a fanon assumption though. So no, does not make sense to combine them.

And as for cluttering the front page... Not really, at least not more then a subsection of a fanfiction series you have no interests in.

Might i chime in with my .02 on the sub-forums that are leaving?

Why not make a collapse-able tab section called "Retired" and move them there? I mean, we have Moderation, Games, Talk, Fanfiction, and Official Business.

Put it at the bottom of the page, that way there's less people looking at it, and if somehow they get enough traffic to move back up to the main threads, why not do that?

Might be easier, I think.

You've suggested that before, and it's still a terrible idea for the exact same reasons. Those sections aren't dead, just not active enough to warrant their own section. Throwing them in a graveyard forum WOULD kill them, and be a pointless waste of time and energy.

Ero-Sennin and myself are currently renaming and merging threads to cut down on the bloat before the transfer. Here's a progress report.

Ah My Goddess: COMPLETE/MOVED/DELETED
Full Metal Alchemist: COMPLETE/MOVED/DELETED
Full Metal Panic: COMPLETE/MOVED/DETELED
Negima: COMPLETE/MOVED/DELETED
Super Robot Taisen: COMPLETE/MOVED/DELETED
Suzumiya Haruhi: COMPLETE/MOVED/DELETED
Tenchi Muyo: COMPLETE/MOVED/DELETED
dotHack: COMPLETE/MOVED/DELETED
Restricted: COMPLETE/MOVED/DELETED

Blank fields haven't been started yet. Additionally, it has been determined that the content belongs in the Games section after all.

And that's a wrap.

Thanks. This is a HUGE help.

The section creation and move will happen later tonight, after the old threads are moved out. Just two sections left now, Haruhi and the Restricted section.

A quick word: the major threads (30+ replies), picture threads, search threads and recommendation threads have either had their names changed or had a tag added to them. The rest, sadly, have been deemed too small to be of note or use. IN THE FUTURE, meaning not now, I might merge the smallest idea threads into a general idea thread for each fandom. That will come later, regardless.

They blew it up! They blew it all up!

Then the Alchemists destroyed their society. Then the Mecha Pilots, and that weird guy who came after them. Et cetera...

/obligatory Planet of the Apes/Futurama reference.

The fact that the forum's being 'reshuffled' now is probably something worth putting in the Announcements box for everyone to see.

Oh right, I should have made a post to this effect:

Ah My Goddess went to heaven.
Full Metal Alchemist failed.
Full Metal Panic blew up.
Negima retired.
SRT ejected.
Suzumiya Haruhi gave up.
Tenchi Muyo was dumped.
.hack has gone offline.

A new age dawns on TFF, starting with Nanoha Takamachi. I'm in the middle of moving things over, but you can get started with reading and writing and building the new Nanoha section into a worthy addition to TFF's library.

I've been wondering for a few days now; there was an informal request some time ago to rename some of the idea threads. For instance most of them are called "Miscellaneous ideas topic".

Do I need to wait for someone to make a report or can I go about renaming them to,

"Ranma Miscellaneous ideas topic"
"Love Hina Miscellaneous ideas topic"
... etc ?

It would make things easier for some - especially those who enabled email alerts.

You're clear to rename the topics in question, Chrono, for the sake of clarity. Also, do this board's email alerts work properly?

I'd recommend leaving out "topics" and just call them "Ranma Miscellaneous Ideas" or "Ranma Misc Ideas".

Of course! You have NO idea how thankful I am because of it. Frankly, it was one of the main reasons I couldn't participate too much at the Temple.

ok another stupid question, did the Negima Section on the Restricted Forum got absorbed by Love Hina or got deleted? if it got absorbed i suppose that Renaming it Ken Akamatsu is a must.

Ok, doing one more pass to hunt down any stragglers of Nanoha threads in the Anime section:

http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=6746 - Nanoha Manga (talk thread)
http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=14268 - Nanoha is to Elmer Fudd, as Daffy is to (idea thread)
http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=18120 - [IF 2011 - 08] War Never Changes (preview thread)
http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=17443 - Future Days (preview thread)
http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=16904 - Nanoha fic - feasibility test (preview thread)
http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=16877 - Nanoha short story (preview thread)
http://thefanfictionforum.net/showthread.php?tid=14777 - Facts Challenge (talk thread)

If that isn't all of them, I'm not going to be amused.

Heh, I hope so too, I'm getting really sick of that move thread screen.

Anyway, I think I've gotten all of them you've gathered up for me. There is still the chance that I've moved a thread to the wrong section, so let me know if you find any misfiles. Thanks a lot by the way, made the move a lot easier.

EDIT: Hahaha I suck. Turns out that I haven't been updating the header for both themes, meaning some people really HAVEN'T been able to see the new announcements. I'll make sure that doesn't happen in the future.
