Well, there are several plots and points used by author to keep main-story volumes connected. Some of them are quite hard to spot at the first glance.

For example: parallels between reality and its virtual counterpart, constant ever-blurring of lines between VR and RL, 'world transcending world' as well as 'man transcending world', which then smoothly ties into Alicization Arc(Vol 9+). That's not even speaking of May-Be-Sort-Of-In-The-Future-Of-SAO 'Accel World' seems to be.á
edit. ... Yea... About that. Have you seen the 'Ultra RareÖ' avatar Kirito 'lucks out' to get in Phantom Bullet arc yet?..

It can mean either, but in this case it's obviously his chest. Given that it is more often used to describe a woman's breasts, I can see why it would confuse you. The translator could have chosen a better word to be sure.

Mea Culpa:
Apologies, was working at the time my post (and maybe a little sleepy).
I that moment I had forgotten that books 3 and 4 compose the Fairy Dance (Alfheim OnLine) Story Arc, i.e.: it's 2 books long, not 1. Post has been updated to reflect correction.

From one of my previous posts, there is still the fact that Asuna's adopted stepbrother/fiancee, Nobuyuki Sugou, wants to get married, as soon as possible, to the currently comatose Asuna Yuuki, so he can stabilize his political position and take over the the Recto Progress company (owners of everything that was left of SAO's Parent Company/current developers of ALO).

Then there's the fact that he's being a complete heel by playing the "supportive, yet jealous fiancee" in not allowing Kazuto get access to Asuna in real life; while in ALO, Fae King Oberon (Sugou in game) is holding Fae Queen Titania (Asuna in game) pretty much ransom/locked up in a gilded cage; it goes to show that there's more to meet the eye than him being the next GM of DOOOOOM?.

I'm more a fan of the Titania avatar in ALO... ;)

Just finished Fairy Dance a few minutes ago. :yay:

Some of the sections, ESPECIALLY the beginning and that ... fight or should I call it after-fight(?) at the end were really cliches and stuff.

But, it was an enjoyable read. I am upset that I had to literally GRIND my teeth though the first chapter of Fairy Dance, but the rest of it was worth it. :mmm:

If it weren't for the fact that this was a Visual Novel translation, I would consider recommending it to some of my more literary-inclined friends.

Perhaps off-topic, but has anyone written any good fanfiction (or crossovers) for Sword Art Online? I'm got a quarter of an idea to do something myself .... ;)

I like Asuna as she was in the first story. But even back then, there were signs that she would more of a treasure for the hero than an independent character herself (the outrageous COOKING skill thing ...) and in the second one she literally becomes something of the Mcgruffin for both the villain and hero.

I think you may want to recheck that statement.

A typo mistake.

Just started reading the beginning of "Phantom Bullet". Looks like the old cast isn't there. Heck, it was Asuna's (and Yui's) appearances in "Fairy Dance" that kept me going through it. Damn ... I like their shipping.

For now, I'm going to just skip over "Phantom Bullet" and jump straight into the prologue of "Mother's Rosario". Hopefully, it won't be a new cast this time. :sisi:

Mother's Rosario is just beautiful. I loved that book.
Awesome book was AWESOME.
Loved how they shifted the focus AWAY from Kirito and mostly on Asuna here; would have LOVED this kind of character development in book 1 toward her, but better late than never :D

@Chrono
I also skipped Phantom Bullet on my first run through the SAO books, while the pacing was about the same as with Aincrad and Fairy Dance; the change to more modern day location with guns and bullets thing kinda turned me off (never been a fan of shooters/FPS).
Although, I do admit, I WILL have to revisit and fully read it next time I need some FEELS, as I missed out on the new friendship with Sinon (F$CK Everything And Feed The Harem!).

TV Episode 15
NOW THAT'S more like it. This was EXACTLY what I expected of the adaptation for the start of the Fairy Dance arc.
Suguha  seriously, if I didn't like Asuna more, I'd ship Sugu harder than most fans ship Liz, Silica and Sachi combined. :p :snigger:

A bit irked that they spoiled Yui being back already in the intro, but eh! MOAR YUI GOODNESS!!!

Third Mother Rosario. Phantom Bullet isn't that awesome but it sets up some stuff for later books.

I didn't like the start all that much, but it got better as it went along.

The Sugu parts were done really well, they captured the imouto moe to a T.

I like the fact that while moe... she's not a moe blob.

She treads softly and can whack people with a bamboo stick! :snigger:

After seeing this, I must ask...

...Why? Why does Argo only exist in 2 sidestories? :blue:

Curse you, Reki Kawahara. Why couldn't you create Argo in time to be part of the main story?

Lol, you quoted the wrong person.

I don't have an opinion on him. He gets what he deserves in the end.

Well finally got around to watching episode 16 and while I loved the episode I got more than a little annoyed when they cut out of yet another fight scene! I mean I understand they have a budge but god damn it let me watch Kirito kick someone's ass right and proper already!

Also, had the thought of a crossover fic where Kirito replaces Saito for Gandalfr, seeing as he's actually got a likeable personality.

Kirito would probably screw with the Gandlfr Rune to be able to pull off Sword Arts moves, the proceed to wreck shit. All the while pining for his waifu. And gaining a harem. Can't forget that he always picks up a harem member wherever he goes.

Would that be before or after the Gandalfr rune NTRs him? Remember that one of its purposes is to basically erase any desire for its recipient to go home.

Oh man episode 17 got me pumped for the next episode. And I really love how they get a little more into the nervegear itself, the mere implications it has are staggering.

I was unhappy with Kayaba's Villain Plot but at least I wanted to see it unfold.

This new arc villain though, I just want him to fail already so the plot can move on.

I mean, for one thing it's basically dropping "sorry Mario your princess is in another castle lolol" one the end of the last arc, so I think it's a cheap plot, but then we just get this small-time kinda guy that would beat his wife, but only once he got some liquid courage inside himself, and that's pretty much his Villain Plot, it's how evil his personality is, but also how cowardly his follow-through is.

The last guy trapped 10k people in a virtual deathgame because he was nuts. He was basically "Castle-or-bust because IDK" Griffith. This is an adult man cockblocking a 16-year-old boy because he's jealous the 17-year-old girl doesn't love him.

If it was me, they'd be hunting some asshole programmer that wrote a Kayaba virus, that infected players with "can't-log-out" syndrome. I woulda foreshadowed him as an SAO player that adapted a little too well. Maybe he's in a wheelchair IRL and just fucking loved being able to walk again, and he's using the virus as a smokescreen to take hostages to subsidize his free server-time by becoming one of the victims.

Dammit

I just imagined that instead and got a little sad over reality not living up to my fantasy. That's so meta

EDIT:
Also if I was a researcher I wouldn't be wasting my time on this emotion control bullshit, I would go to DARPA and say "let's train the neural plasticity of some soldiers so they can drive spider-tanks with direct cybernetic telepathy", and they would say, "here's a billion dollars" and my face would be plastered across Janes labeled, "THE FUTURE!".

EDIT 2:
Also I was kinda annoyed it was "a certain American company" that was paying for the evil research instead of like "a certain Chinese/ Iranian / actual police state company", but I guess we're the best punching bag, so w/e.

Wait no I just realized this might be able to straight-up fix schizophrenia or sommat n/m, he might be lying to them about his research methods.

Although I wouldn't trust his results, because his methodology probably sucks.

Well... the whole "creating soldiers to pilot spider tanks" deal is dealt with in a later volume (one that wouldn't be seen in this season of SAO), though it's more of "let's replicate the human conscience to be the ultimate AI!" than "let's teach soldiers how to be fuck-awesome!"

And yes, this arc's villain gets his comeuppance in the best way possible. It seriously makes me want to see the end of this arc, not because the story sucks, but because I want to see this guy seriously fucked up. What's that? You want to perform inhumane experiments on unwilling participants? How about having some of your own medicine back? You think you're god in this virtual world? Fuck that shit, have some PAIN instead.

what I cared to notice: Suguha's Boobs

Ah, there is a reason I've been calling this Suguha Arts Online .

ahh episode 19, watched and loved it!

I find myself really envious of this anime for its virtual reality, it gets me itching to find another MMO to play since I quite WoW. I've thought about playing Tera Online but, well, I just don't know if I want to get sucked into another game like warcraft.

Bah, no matter, even games like that don't have the same feel of accomplishment like real life.

As for the Spriggan's doesn't anyone else here think that their "useless" abilities for treasure hunting and illusion magic just mean that the general population of Japan who plays the game just aren't nearly as creative as a bunch of Nerds should be?

I like to think that the hero's special ability is ALWAYS initially portrayed as "dumb" in any story. ... until he shows everyone how to use it.

From that point, it becomes "the" thing for everyone.
