About in month in total. And about four years for the standard method without enhancement. He may not have been trying that hard since he'd technically gotten it down but damn, it took Minato less time to create that jutsu.
Yeah but he spent most of that month trying to learn the one-handed method. If he'd been using shadow clones from the beginning he probably could have gotten it down in a week. And he taught the shadow clone trick to Konohamaru, so Konohamaru using rasengan isn't really that impressive. Pretty much any competent ninja could probably use the rasengan if they can spare the chakra to use shadow clones. Even the ultimate shape manipulation jutsu isn't that hard if it's being done by three guys who each only have to complete a third of it. Basically, instead of an A-rank jutsu, it's three guys pulling off a C-rank collaboration jutsu - and they are all copies of the same guy, so there is no issue with their teamwork.

The chart lists the natures they have mastered
So Sakura has mastered Water Release, Earth Release and Yin Release? Pray tell, when exactly did a main character with tons of screentime master all these affinities which are supposed to take months to years each to learn? During the timeskip we know she spent learning Medical jutsu/Yang Release? Or did she pick up all these nature transformation skills completely offscreen with no mention of it, and then never use them for no apparent reason?

Unless the charts are listing their elements from the epilogue then it has to just be affinities and not actual mastered natures.

4 years passed since the Chunin Exam. She didn't really got THAT MUCH sceentime.
More than enough for her to learn all of them, as Tsunade wasn't training her to become ONLY a med-nin.
For not using them... it's perfectly possible she DID use them in medical jutsu.
Still, mastering Nature Manipulation doesn't mean mastering jutsu of the same element. Especially for a close-ranged taijutsu specialist like Sakura.
Hell, she might have learned Nature Manipulation simply for her future promotion to Jōnin

That is one hell of a suspension of disbelief stretching explanation, but fine I'll accept that explanation for Sakura. Now explain every single other character who was given multiple new elemental natures in the new databook despite none of them ever using any jutsu of those elements, ever.

Shino, Shikamaru and Chouji with Earth and Fire, Hinata with Fire and Lightning, Neji with Fire, Earth and Water, Kiba with Earth and Yang, Ino with Earth and Water... are we expected to believe that all of these characters mastered multiple elemental nature transformations, entirely offscreen and without mention, and yet none of them ever use any jutsu of those elements? Why would they spend years of their life learning these incredibly difficult transformations if they were never going to use them? To be promoted? That's a weakass explanation. Why would pointless unutilized transformation skills be required for promotion? Do you really buy that?

edit: I mean seriously, Kakashi explicitly stated that Sakura was a genjutsu type. If she learned Yin Release at some point and she has a natural talent for genjutsu, then what possible reason could she have for never using them?

I assumed Neji had a few elements ever since the third databook came out. Jounin usually have at least two elements and Neji's a genius jounin who had a 4 in ninjutsu when we literally never saw him even one in the entire manga, I believe. So I figured he'd mastered two chakra natures and had a few ninjutsu for them but, like many clan ninja, found it far more effective to use his clan jutsu because he'd trained and used them for the most of his career. And because Kishimoto would prefer to have them focus on their signature clan jutsu instead of generic elements that other ninja would be shown using.

That said, everyone else apparently having more than one element was a surprise.

situation\career\self-improvement

Mostly career\self-improvement, I'd wage. And remember most of them have family jutsu\bloodlimits-based fighting styles.

For elements being needed for(or most likey helping with) promotions, it's a show of ninjutsu ability.

There's a trope for this. It's called Informed Ability.

Actually, it's not even informed ability because the manga itself never mentions or even hints that all these characters can use all these elements. Literally the only mention of it is in this one databook.

Personally, I will believe that all these characters can use multiple elements when I see it in the manga. Or they at least acknowledge knowing the elements in the manga. I just can't suspend my disbelief enough to accept that they have all spent years mastering abilities they never actually intend to use except to impress the Hokage at promotion time.

We know all the Raikage and his tag-team partner are always given given the names of "A" and "B" when they take the job, but they did also have their own unique names before that. I kind of wish Kishimoto would have shared those names with us, cause it's kind of annoying have to always refer to "First Raikage" or "Third Raikage" since they all have the same name.

Say, did Darui also change his name to A when he became Raikage? And did Omoi become B then?

Unless policy changed based on the new direction the villages took. Would Omoi still become B if Killer B is still around? Did the Fourth go back to his original name now that he's retired? Hmm.

Randomly found this on tumblr: String Light Formation - Iruka activated this jutsu to prevent Naruto from leaving. Formations spread out from one’s feet, and the movements of the person caught in the centre of the jutsu can be sealed/restricted. A jutsu considered in the occasion of learning the basis of sealing techniques.

Any word on whether the databook is going to be localized for North America?

Also I'm curious about something, why does a Japanese language book have like five or six words in English on every page?

No idea for either. :huh.:

...Waiting sucks. Wish I knew Japanese.

Edit: Oh yeah, Nagato's apparently immune to visual genjutsu.

Updated OP with Hinata's lion jutsu.

Edit: Updated OP with rough translation of Tobirama's profile and Iruka's jutsu.

So, the Soushiken does drain chakra? interesting. I guess it only drains if its the chakra network, though.

Some paraphrased translations:

Hanzo: It mostly talks about his will and how he lost and regained it. It also talks about how "Poison gave birth to Amegakure's great hero". And the only really interesting thing is it may be calling him, "Amegakure's greatest of all", but i'm not sure if it's that or "Leader", since é•· can mean both (I think it might mean both, as in he was the leader and was the greatest Amegakure Shinobi). It also talks about how he uses poisoned weapons, plural, so he probably poisoned his Kunai and stuff as well as his scythe.

Shima: Ma's secret weapon is her greatness with Senjutsu, the way of the toad. Ma/Pa Rank (in the toads' social standings) just below the Gama Sennin. Ma/Pa boast great detection and analysis prowess. Naruto made her believe in Gama Sennin's prophecy. Power of Senjutsu sound waves is immense.

Utakata: From Kirigakure. Could use a wide range of bubble ninjutsu as well as acid in battle.

Yagura: Even as a kid had mastered his Bijuu and become a perfect Jinchuuriki, and had masterful (prodigious, can't stress this enough) battle skills. His pride is his giant club (the weapon he carries). Also confirms that Obito's doujutsu was responsible for controlling Yagura, but I can't make out much on that line beyond that due to image quality, but I think it's just saying Tobi took control of the villages affairs through Yagura. Nothing about what Jutsu he used to control Yagura or how Yagura was freed from that Jutsu.

Han: Gobi's power is to gallup really fast lol. Clad in crimson armor, Iwagakure's original former Jinchuuriki? His unique traite was that he manipulated steam in battle. His pride was his Herculean strength and acceleration (gathering great speed), that he accomplishes via amplification (I.E. the steam shit increases his strength and speed greatly). During War the Steam Ninja was famous throughout the entire ninja world. His Taijutsu's enormous power and speed is prominent throughout the ninja world.

Fuu: (there is definitely another "u", so it's not Fu, but Fuu, if people didn't know already) Living bright and cheerfully flying through the sky. (Makes it sad what happened to her lol, also guess she could use her wings even before Obito controlled her). I think it's saying her almight power is to glitter (brightly!) at moments notice (but I could be mistaken, this ones confusing). LOL, can you say lamest Jinchuuriki ( if i'm not wrong though). She's a Kunoichi of the hidden waterfall village. Her Bijuu power is to grow insect wings from the back of her spine. She dances on the wind like a magical butterfly or some such shit lol. From her mouth she vomits fine Phosphorus powder (phosphorous is pretty poisonous so her breath could be deadly, but it doesn't say that in the databook) , snatching away her opponents field of vision. The art of surprise attack is this technique's strong point. I think it says the speed of her flight causes normal shinobi distress (guess they loose track of her).

Bijuu: The blurb under Shukaku just talks about his Juin and absolute defense. Says the Nibi uses scorching hot hellfire, but considering how it's written I believe it's implying that Nibi's power is Shakuton (scorch release). Sanbi's carapace (shell) is very durable and I think it talks about the countless number of blades on it (but the Hiragana is hard to make out). While Sanbi can fight in water and out of water, fighting in the water is it's strong point. The viscosity from Rokubi's body fluids is high. It can also release corroding gas.

The databook is seriously not going to explain what jutsu Obito used to control Yagura? This is not a minor plot point Kishimoto, a jutsu like that would be insanely powerful, on par with Kotoamatsukami. And we already know it wasn't Izanami, because Yagura was apparently freed from the jutsu eventually. (I still don't get that. How did he die then?) We would very much like to know how Obito gained access to such an incredible genjutsu and why he has never used it again!

#42
Probably, it wasn't a single "Now you're under my control" jutsu. I'd guess Obito did spend time to build his influence on Yagura, as anything else would have been simply detected and dispelled by Three-tails: remember Yagura was a Perfect Jinchuriki since young age

Isn't it just Genjutsu: Sharingan? I'm surprised the translator even mentioned it like it was a mystery since you can control people, animals and tailed beasts with the Sharingan. Kotoamatsukami is just that ability taken to the most extreme and subtle degree in a way that Genjutsu: Sharingan can't replicate.

Obito dominating Yagura (and maybe Isobu) with his Sharingan looks like the most obvious conclusion to me, turning him into a puppet. It's not the jutsu, it's the caster.

Not being a one time thing or instantaneous is also a possiblility, like ankoku said.

Obito slowly breaking Yagura and Isobu down over time with repeated genjutsu is only explanation that makes any sense to me, but how would he have pulled it off without being caught or Yagura/Isobu realizing what was going on and seeking help? Was Obito sneaking into his bedroom every night and placing genjutsu on him while he slept, then after a month all the subtle mind control had eroded his will enough for a big genjutsu to break him?

I'd wager it'd take more than a month, but that's kind of what I imagine

Obito controlling Yagura could take hours or maybe[/b] days but I wouldn't go beyond that. I'd liken the situation to the interrogation genjutsu used on Rin but with a powerful Mangekyou Sharingan and the intention to outright control.

Anyway, updated OP with a Fu translation.

The Spirit Transformation Jutsu apparently causes the user's insides to decay.

Hiraishin Second Level: Minato rushes the enemy throwing a Kunai at them from the front, and then teleports behind them attacking them. The attack is meant to confuse them.

Hirashingiri is just using Hiraishin to launch an attack from the enemy's blind spot.

Spirit Transformation causes your internal organs to rot?! Holy shit!

Seems like. I'm not sure if it's like a consequece of the jutsu or if it's like you're technically dead whilst your spirit's absent. The unabbreviated version:

Ones own spirit detaches from the body, like a ghost, to possess a specific opponent, the Jutsu causes the users insides to decay resulting in death. It also talks about finding the targets position before hand being essential, and it's like no shit you don't want to just roam around w/o a body lol. I feel like the rest of the entry just repeats this, but I couldn't see some Kanji/Hiragan well so I may be missing some things. But for now it just seems like an OP Jutsu, but causes the user to die. I mean bare in mind I could have this wrong. Though there are quite a few explanations for this. It could be that his body rots over time, so if he returns quick enough he won't die. Or that he took control over an enemy and than used that to massacre a bunch of people before dying. Or skipped around from different bodies.

Well I guess we know now why Dan befriended and seduced Tsunade! He needed the best medic-nin to restore his organs to tip-top shape whenever he used his ultimate jutsu. Falling in love with her was just a bonus. *tin-foil hat moment*

Edit: I guess this means the difference between Mind-Body Switch and Spirit Transformation is that in Mind-Body Switch the soul retains a strong connection to the body - this keeps the body healthy but an unfortunate side-effect is the mirrored-damage aspect of the jutsu. But in Spirit Transformation that connection is severed, allowing the user to freely kill those they possess, but their own body is technically dead and starts breaking down so they have a strict time-limit to return before their body is no longer in working condition.

What happens to the soul if the body dies while using Spirit Transformation? Do they wander the world as a ghost seeking revenge for their death for eternity? Do they just pass on to the afterlife when they run out of chakra?

Also I still want to know if it's possible for someone possessing someone with the Mind-Body Switch or Spirit Transformation jutsu to perform ninjutsu with their hosts body, and if so are would they spend their own chakra using their own affinities or their hosts chakra using their affinities?
