What games are you playing 2: The revenge

I'm only on level two but I'm having a blast with it. Just figuring out all the different combination to make spells, though i keep coming back to the combination lightning/acarne giant Nanoha style beam of doom, though setting up arcane traps etc is pretty cool.

Played a couple of long round matches on a MNC server, wow, now that was crazy. Earned some serious cash, and really starting to get the hang of this game.

Needs more varied stages though, and maybe a few more gameplay modes.

Back to Dragon Quest IX, now doing the (substantial) post game content.

A few of the missions have been really interesting; like Stella's missions and the Upover stuff. I really don't care for the grottoes though; too much grinding for very little reward.

Maybe if I had three people to form a party with I'd have a better time of it. Ah well.

Also playing Dragon Quest VIII and Mass Effect 2 on the side. Hope to have the first done in a month, the latter done in two weeks. Since I got Rogue Galaxy back a few days ago, I'll probably sit down over a weekend and finish that one. Actually, I think I'm going to dedicate this semester to finish games that I've started. The above is a good starting list.

Good luck if you decide to finish the post-game content for Rogue Galaxy...

Ghost Ship can rot in hell, damn horrid level that it is. Some really good stuff in it, but my god, what a slough to get through.

Kind of a random question for anyone who's played .Hack G.U. Do the effects of items on Haseo add anything to when he fights as an Avatar? I noticed when I was fighting an AIDA that I was moving faster than normal and the only difference I could think of was that I had used a Speed Talisman before the fight.

What's it like? I've honestly never heard of it and all I can find quickly is that some reviewer called it 'unplayable'.
It has some bugs some far, the most annoying being that if you want to play multi you have to use tunngle/hamachi to get a good connection.

It's basically a 'hack and slash' where there is no levels (though there are staves and weapons), you play a wizard and apart from specific spells you find with spellbooks, most of what you can do you can do from the very beginning.

Basically you have 10 type of elements (Shield, Arcane, Life, Earth, Lightning, Fire, Water,Steam, Frost, Ice), you can use them in four different ways (normal casting, AoE casting, Self Casting, Imbue Weapon casting), and you can use up to five elements at once (whether it's five earth or one steam, one electricity, and 3 Arcane does not matter) to create different combos that all have different effects.

For example, casting a mix of 'shield' and 'arcane' makes mines that explodes with arcane energy once someone walks on them.

Playing Dawn of War: Dark Crusade atm with Imperial Guard. I love Imperial Guard just because they rule and their tanks pwn everything.

I'm <s>trying</s> <s>addicted to</s> playing Recettear.

And I can't help but think of it as a combination of Chapter 3 of Dragon Quest /Warrior 4; Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past; and a lame stockmarket simulator.

Edit: And considering I strangely enjoyed chapter 3 of DQ/W4; and I've never been able to stop playing LoZ: LttP (when I wanted to revisit one moment) until I complete it, Recettear looks like it might consume me.

The stockmarket bit is perhaps the only irritant and it's minor at that.

Picked up a copy of Jade Empire cheap since they were having a 50% off at my usual store.

Currently having way too much fun with the martial arts especially storm dragon + leaping tiger is fun.

Btw anyonw who had played the game before got any good recommendation style combination?

Cosmic Break, an MMO third-person shooter with mecha and moe. There are also quite a few moe mechas in there too. Quite a fun game, at least until you get to the arena and end up losing about nine out of ten battles you're in due to noobyness.

Currently trying to raise my second squad, consisting of a Lily Rain Majalis (artillery moe-mecha), a modded Izuna Kamui (bomber/anti-land moe-mecha), and a Shino Exroad (which i nicknamed S*xroad due to its ease of use).

Dead Space 1. Combat is surprisingly easy once you know what you're doing. To be honest, the Plasma Cutter is the only weapon I've used throughout the game so far.

And you can easily finish the game like that. Though the shotgun-type weapon is really handy on higher difficulties.

Picked up The Witcher for shits and giggles. Had to put it down before I even finished the first castle level.

Maybe it's only 'cause I went to it fresh off a ME2 playthrough, but goddamn that has some of the cheesiest dialogue and flimsiest writing I've seen in decently scored RPG. I'll go back to it after my writing standards sink back down.

Beat Dead Space 2 today just using the Line Gun and the Pulse Rifle on survivalist starting up a new game + on casual just to max out my weapons, armor, etc. The last section of the game really sucked with the regenerating boss dude and constant spawning upgraded enemies.

Playing COD:BLOPS am extremely disappointed by the top tier shotgun. Semi-auto 4 rounds 2 hits to kill at point blank? Fuck that the Stakeout is better.

Edit: Olympia you magnificent 2 shot hunting shotgun bastard, I am sorry for ever insulting you. 18-4 with the Olympia on Firing Range that was awesome. Kill streak of 12!

Nier, on the last area/boss.
While not a amazing game it's surprisingly solid game considering the average review and the fact that i only got it because it was 10 dollars.

Eh, it is still somewhat interesting to go through the game the 3 more times for different endings. You can go through areas again fairly quickly by that point, and it is somewhat interesting on subsequent playthroughs to be able to understand what the various boss Shades are saying throughout the game, watching how you are the bad guy to them.

I played it on rental a while back, and just recently chose to buy it when the price dropped to 15. For a lower price, it is a fairly good game to pick up.

yeah, I've been looking at youtube vids for the various endings. what a depressing world...
Main annoyance is the whole need all the weapons thing for endings C and D. which requires a crapton of gold... which requires a lot of side questing or grinding. if only the side quests weren't so boring and tedious i probably would actually replay to the 3rd and 4th ending.

Finished Dead Space 2 over the weekend.

At its core, it's basically the same game as the first. Very little has changed between games. It looks the same, it plays the same, it feels the same, etc. The weapons are almost the exact same, as well. Having played through the first game almost primarily with the plasma cutter, I did the exact same here and it still works great.

And seeing how it was set on a massive city/space station, I was hoping for a bit more variety in level design rather than the usual tight spaceship corridors, but unfortunately not.

On some level, I can't help but think of Dead Space 2 as more of a 'Dead Space 1.5'. It's pretty much the same game, only with some new content.

Despite that, I enjoyed it. Despite my apparent issues with the game being so similar to the first, I can hardly blame the developers as the first game did things pretty good. The flow of the game feels more natural than the first, the dead animations are even more sadistic (Spoilers: And even if it wasn't a dead animation, the scene at the end with Isaac in the machine with you guiding a fucking needing right through his eye was a 'holy fuck' moment), and best of all, they gave Isaac a voice and actual character.

I found Isaac's grunting and muffled yelling from the first game to be a bit silly - he's now an actual person with a backstory, emotion, and personality. It all worked extremely well with him struggling after the events of the first game. I really liked how the developers worked with his character.

So, overall, it was a pretty good game. I might just do a second playthrough on higher difficulty and experiment with some of the other weapons, since I abused the plasma cutter a bit too much the first time through. It's hands-down the best weapon in the game, so because of that I didn't bother experimenting with much else.

Nier got low reviews because 1) it wasn't Final Failtasy and 2) people dismissed it as a Dynasty Warriors clone after 10 minutes of gameplay and based their reviews on that.

The latter is painfully obvious in IGN's review, where they completely ignore half a dozen side-activities in the second half and late first half of the game, acting as if fishing was the only thing you do (they also missed that you can grow vegetables in the back of your house - which is a major income source if done right to boot).

People need to fucking stop dismissing any new hack and slash that's not God of War or DMC as 'just another DW clone'. They did the same with Hokuto Musou, claiming you can just randomly mash Attack and beat everyone, even bosses, even on the hardest level. Yeah, right, go try that on the bosses and they will fucking MURDER you. Especially Raoh and Amiba.

Having owned Nier since launch, I finally beat it through ending B, discovered I needed to collect every weapon, and despite ending B ruling, said fuck this.

Alpha Protocol turned out to be a much better game than I'd heard it was.

Bought FFT:WotL to see the new translation. It's a much better translation even if I don't like it. also the balance changes that seem like they're there to specifically fuck over challenges made me laffo.

Also 3) It wasn't pretty enough for them.

Been a while, but I think they did. Pretty sure it's not 1:1, but it does have an effect.

Doesn't really matter though. All of the Avatar fights in that game are hella easy from what I remember.

Collecting every weapon is pretty easy to do if you don't rush through the game. And the last two endings are a massive mindscrew.

As for not pretty enough? Fuck you, fanboys, I'll keep my badass rugged papa Nier over your bishiefaggot overly pretty brother who probably spends more time in front of the fucking mirror than he does actually finding a cure for his sister. You CAN'T convince me that someone who leads a life as harsh as Nier's can be so overly prettyfaced, especially what with part of his tasks involving basically getting kicked in the face by wild goats. Papa Nier's weathered ugliness makes a lot more sense, and besides I like the father/daughter dynamics better than the umpteenth unoriginal boring uninspired brosis angle.
