Avatar Fanfiction recomendations

So, it's a reminder that the Order of the White Lotus is as useless as it was in the show?
I wouldn't call them usless, and they're definitely shown as being much more active than their canon counterpart. There are plenty of reasons for that, of course - Iroh being the Fire Lord, and a rather ruthless one at that, Bumi managing the Order in his own style until two years ago, and of course Piandao doing it ever since are among them. They are shown to be supporting Earth Kingdom guerillas/rebels, conducting their own operations against Fire Nation - simply, they are working on an extremely large scale. We are privy to their inner workings, and the complexity of their task - pacification of the single most powerful military engine in the world - is made very clear. If this fic was centered arond the Gaang, as in canon, we wouldn't have known a tenth of what's going on.

And it wouldn't matter, since it's the small groups that win fictional wars.

Is that what you mean by "usefulness" of the Order? And if they don't "win", if they don't belong in this special small group of warriors that personally defeats the Fire Lord, they're usless?

Suppose in this fic, the whole Order drops dead all at once, in the end of the first chapter (perhaps the Fire Lord figured them all out, and concocted a grand assassination the likes of which the world has never seen). How would you judge the Avatar's chances to "win" then?

Since the Avatar is a canon magical Sue, I'd put Aang's chances as average to beat the Fire Lord. Although, the after war clean up would be guaranteed to be an utter bitch to take care of with the loss of so many expereinced leaders.

But the degree "sueness" of the Avatar is wholly up to the author of this fic, isn't it? And a good author (which I presume Menamebephil to be) will manage to portrait the Avatar without those annoying traits, or so that these traits won't help him much.

AU age-up. What if Toph Bei Fong had been 22, not 12, when the Gaang met her in "The Blind Bandit"?
Basically an AU Toph who grew up having not met Aang in her childhood grew to be even more badass than regular Toph but is seriously messed up because of the crappy childhood she had. The character are all very themselves, it's funny, and serious like the series itself, but better.
SECRET TUNNEL!!! SECRET TUNNEL!!! SECRET SECRET SECRET SECRET TUNNEL!!!!!

The fact that that song pops into my head randomly because of that fic is awesome. It's nice to have something that makes me laugh pop in periodically.

Don't know how I missed that the first read through of the page, but I'm glad I caught it.

The Fun and Perky Warrior's Wolf Tail by Lavanya Six updated to chapter twelve.

I should point out that I am not recommending every chapter, but I am recommending this one.
Actually, several of these are quite good, for what they are. It isn't totally clear, but this link is actually a bunch of short stories and AUs typically set after or before Book One.

I particularly like chapter 8, "The Fanfiction of Wan Shi Tong," where we see some of the interesting limitations of the most powerful two spirits. Also, Chapter 3 has a fun twist in a far distant future of the Avatar setting.

Wow... So dark but you can see it happening at the same time.

The cartoon likes to make light of everything, but knowing what Ozai did to his own son this isn't surprising in the least.

Or at least allowed for a nice, messy public execution for being evil enough to attempt to fry the entire EK along with everyone, including a fair number of his own subjects, actually liveing there.

I found it through Vathera's fav list so there's that. Also it's incomplete and possibly dead.

Summary? In the North Pole, at the end of season one, shortly after watching Zhao choose death, alone without any boat access, Zuko is captured by the Northern Water Tribe.
