This fic introduced me to the Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman. A very well written work, it will captivate you with an engaging and unique story, and then piss you off when you realize that it was abandoned.

As it hasn't yet been mentioned, I feel compelled to submit ChiRho's The Ikari Doctrine for your consideration.

There are some formatting and syntax problems, but these can be tuned out by the huge amounts of :lol: . Even unfinished and abandoned its still the funniest Eva story I've read.

What the heck? I can recommend fics too! Three fics I was surprised never ended up here when I was reading through to find something good. Course all my favorite fics are Asuka/Shinji so I might be a bit biased.

I don't do this much but I'm surprised this never showed up. The use of an actual number in the title threw me off quite adamantly in the beginning so I skipped over it once or twice:

The 2nd Try is one of the greatest Evangelion fics I've ever read, and the best example of a time travel fic in my memory, by JimmyWolk

The good thing about it is that, while it's not quite finished yet, it IS alive and was updated not terribly long ago.

Another fic with the same problem as far as the title goes, but also one of the best in my memory:

02 by Hououza was an incredible fanfic.

The final fic ALSO had an unattractive title. It's written in all caps.

This fic sold post third impact to me. It's sequel leaves much to be desired basing itself around Asuka and Shinji's daughter in her older years.

These were all my favorite fics and I'm kinda disappointed none of them were here.

Meh. Oh well. Hope someone likes!

Competition Can Be Murder by Mister Cynical.

While I like everything by him, none of it is particularly good as Eva fiction. Most of it can be summed up as "Many years after Evangelion, Shinji is a total badass." In the case of Lycanthrope, try "Shinji is a werewolf. He is a badass."

Competition Can Be Murder, however, is hilarious crackficcery. It falls into the first mold, except that Shinji is literally the very incarnation of the First Person Shooter (down to having a HUD in his head), and works for Sony as an "intercompany relations specialist" who in the first chapter utterly annihilates a Microsoft research center to delay the release of the XBox X.
NERV has it's funding cut off by the UN, and in a moment of drunken genius, Gendo decides to convert NERV to a video game company.

Hilarious antics ensue.

The thing that really makes Mr. Cynical's fics, though, is the dialouge. He writes very witty dialouge that I find hilarious. As long as you're willing to accept that Shinji kicks ass and is completely OOC then you might enjoy his fanfiction.

THERE IS A GOD!!! (Not Shinji or Simon btw)

I don't know how long any of you have been following the Evangelion fanfiction scene, but I can say that I got into it before the Second Impact. Over the years I've seen many fantastic (and many more god-awful) authors take center stage in our small fandom; authors whose writing is brilliant, complex...and rarely finished.

Does the name The Seldon Planner ring any bells?

Anyway, I don't want to talk about hacks who rewrite stories five or six times, and then abandon them. No, let's talk about Lord Legato Deathscythe. About five years ago he was the master of all things Evangelion. He headed at least one Eva fanfiction website (Darkscribes.org) and was pretty active on Evafics. Over a year ago he left, temporarily, for personal reasons IIRC. Well, he's back, and he's updated his best crack fic: Cat-Girl!Asuka.

Some highlights from chapter 1:

ôYou did something to me, changed me to fit your perverted fantasies! YOU MUTATED ME DIDN'T YOU?!ö


Shinji remained calm... yeah right, ôI swear I didn't. I don't know the first thing about genetic engineering!ö


Asuka wasn't buying it, ôYou're the son of a megalomaniacle maniac and a brilliant bio-physicist, you expect me to believe that?!ö

Well... I've seen and liked several of his stories over the years... that was not one of them.

If he were to continue writing, he has a bunch of good unfinished stories I'd rather see more of. Like:

- 'A Soul Possessed' - either version, an old story, but neat plot
- 'A Walk in the Park' - nice setup, with tension from Asuka's stepmom
- 'Run'- I liked the setup, but nothing since it came out

Oh... and I'm wondering at the year part... he posted the two newer ones above in May on FanFiction.NET.

I'm well aware of LLD's other works; the reason I liked the crack-fic was that it was one of the better unserious fics in a fandom that has always taken itself too seriously.

I will say this though: I wish that his "Wandering Soul" series would update.

I know of another Cat-Girl!Asuka fic. However, I can't really give a link to it on here because it has a lemon in it.

It's also a O!/A!MGxEvangelion crossover.

I'll just say it's 'The Gift' by Mercaba.

Can anyone recommend any good Shinji/Rei fanfic? I've been looking through ff.net but there's so much bad stuff on there it's hard to find! Something where the characters actually stay 'in character'! Rei not becoming the happiest, loved up super duper happy girl because she's found 'love'. Rei becoming any kind of emotional quickly is just whacked IMO.

Honestly, there aren't many. People like Rei becoming human.

For quality Rei/Shinji, I recommend "The One I Love Is" by Rakna. It's been posted already, so go read.

(I'm an S/A fan, so I tend to ignore most R/S fics. Innortal and Lord Raa have some hysterical Rei/Shinji fics though.)
