I'm pretty sure that Russian 'Naval Infantry' are actually Spetsnaz after that crack about hitting the target while doing backflips off a trampoline.
As for Shinju's calm, other than one breakdown scene during rifle training, I think there are two possible excuses.
One, during the Jet Alone presentation Ritsuko notes that Misato (who was downloaded into an older clone Rei body) didn't react to her father's name being mentioned and that 'it looked like the dosage was right'. Which makes me wonder if the Reis (as well as Misato and Shinju in this case) emotional flatness is chemically enhanced?
Also everyone focused on what Shinji has lost, but what has Shinju gained? Possibly due to the gender shift and/or the age reduction Misato and Ritsuko are more emotionatively supportive, rather than 'get in the EVA, aren't you a boy?' of canon. Shijnu has a family, friends at school rather than getting the shit beat out of him for injuring Toji's sister in his disasterous first battle, uncles in her Spetsnaz bodyguard and even distant approval of her father. Even her EVA battles are different. She never went berserk against the Third Angel (nuked by Azrael), did slightly better againts the Fourth Angel, and through Gendo's manipulations was the one that suggested the winning strategy for defeating the Fifth Angel. Shinji was unwanted, unloved, and thought everyone considered him a failure. Shinju has everything (or quite a bit) that Shinji wanted, how much is human contact and affection worth?

Identity is worth much imo.
The whole thing reminds me of Rayearth manga where the heroines meet in one page and 3 pages later they are already inseparable friends ready to sacrifice their lives for each other.
In less than a week the 3 are already a happy loving prozac family without regard to past identity, gender, sexuality and age. Unless there is rewrite of the fic, the concept of the fic is wasted on its actual incarnation.

Regrettibly... he has not updated some of his past storeis, 'A Soul Possessed', 'Run', 'A Walk in the Park'.

Ugh... Shinji/Asuka. No thank you. Don't get me wrong, it's a well written story (punctuation could use some work) and the characterizations are nicely done, but that pairing grates on me. Unless Asuka's part of a harem, no thank you.
There's always Evangelion: Revisited. It's pretty much just pure crack but it's fun.

I know of one... regrettibly... I also have no link for it.
Rei, Misato, Maya, and a handful of others survive 3rd impact... most of the world, and the reamining cast are pretty much all gone.
A couple years later, they are digging in the geofront and discover a portal at the site of Lillith. Preliminary tests show it would tear most humans apart. But it is believed Rei would survive. They know it leads to the past, but not how far. Rei decides to risk it, and go back to save everyone.
Pretty good. It was 18 chapters and 191kb long, my copy is from 2002. 'Redemption' by Unknown.
I've asked a couple times over the years... no one has ever been able to tell me who made it, or if there was more.

I present to you an old story written in 2001, that I'm quite sure has not been recommended before:
Pariah. by evacael
Summary: A Lab experiment created by Gendo who is trying to build a "better" Rei escapes and meets up Shinji.
My thoughts: While the story introduces an OC, she fits in very well into the universe. This OC is a creation that seems to have elements of the Pariah from Warhammer implemented in such a way as to fit into the Judeo Christian backdrop that Evangelion has creating a fascinating story that draws you in.
Short Intense and a good read with the Author adding in pictures that helps you in the immersion.

PS Unfortunately the sequal is uncompleted. Also, while I feel its a good read it does not reach EPIC levels yet. Yes I blame you bpen. ;p

I figured I'd post this up just because its disturbingly good and never gets enough love. Its a post third impact story that takes place about 5 years in the future. Its told through the POV of an OC, but its done very well and continues with the severe personal issues that characterized the original.

This is one of the best new crossovers that I have seen in the Evangelion section recently. The author took EVA and Gundam Wing AC and created a crossover that completely abandons ever stereotype used. It's like reading something out of Event Horizon. Utterly fantastic.

I sort of kind of like it, and have been monitoring it since chapter 2.
However, I am limited by a distict lack of knowledge of Gundam... and he seems to be throwing all the sides in simultaniously with little regard to those readers who may not know of the other series. Either character summaries, or better descriptions within the story itself would have helped a lot.
